Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why did the Marauders demand Mo'Steel fight the Beasts?

Answer: To prove his worth as leader

Mo'Steel killed Hawk, the Marauders' former leader, by stabbing him repeatedly with a Rider boomerang. Mo'Steel himself cut his fingers and was stabbed savagely in the leg, causing an infection and a limp. Because he had defeated the leader, he was automatically appointed the position. But he had to survive the Beasts to do so.
2. Which was not a name of a Marauder?

Answer: Lyric

Lyric was an Alpha in the story, not a Marauder. Eel was described as being young, who stood close to Aga, an older Marauder. Claw was one of the four suspicious-looking Maurauders, along with Newton, Snipe, and Balder. Violet thought he wasn't very intelligent. Rattler swaggered around restlessly and looked like trouble. Most of the Marauders looked like they wanted to kill Mo'Steel so they could rule.
3. Why was Newton mad at Mo'Steel for killing Hawk?

Answer: He wanted to kill him himself

Hawk was indeed Newton's brother, but that didn't matter. Newton was going to become leader no matter what- even if it meant killing his own brother. So he led Mo'Steel to the Beasts and hoped Mo would die and leave Newton as leader. He could have murdered Mo outright, but admitted he was afraid of the Beasts. He figured the Beasts would kill Mo. He would declare himself leader, and see if anyone had the nerve to object.
4. Who did Rattler make a romantic move on?

Answer: 2Face

Rattler had been staring rudely at Violet, but it was during a break to see the Beasts that he forced himself on 2Face. She shoved him off and growled, "You guys are disgusting!" The Alphas took DNA from their members and developed children in labs.

The Maurauders were more deformed because of generations of inbreeding. Rattler is later killed by Mo'Steel after attacking Olga in the middle of the night.
5. Which was NOT a reason the Marauders and Alphas disliked the Remnants so much?

Answer: They thought they were cruel

They called Mo'Steel "fat" with water. They had been living for centuries surviving on hardly any water. They grew angry when Jobs mentioned the alien ship and its advanced technology. The Remnants learned that these people's ancestors knew about the oncoming Rock and prepared themselves accordingly. Only a specific amount of people survived it.

They called the Remnants cowards because they escaped the destruction of the Rock, not realizing most of the survivors were just kids.
6. Yorka was born an Alpha, yet lived with the Marauders. Why?

Answer: She couldn't talk

Yorka was born without the ability to speak. When the Alphas discovered that, they didn't want her, and called her "defective." Alphas were obsessed with maintaining strong DNA for future generations. Echo, who volunteered her own DNA and would receive the child, worried it would be "defective" and therefore given up.
7. Who forced D-Caf to eat the mysterious gray pellets?

Answer: Balder

It had been Badger who saw Balder make D-Caf swallow the pellets. Earlier, 2Face saw the Marauders passing the bag containing the pellets around and warned the others to not consume it. Everyone woke up and saw D-Caf having a seizure. Eventually Aga came and gave him something. D-Caf threw up and was able to recover.
8. How did Mo'Steel insult the Marauders?

Answer: By refusing Grost

Newton threw Grost at Mo'Steel and said that they would be a couple. This meant Grost would essentially be Mo's slave. He refused to accept this. Every Marauder grew very disgusted. Grost, with her crossed eyes and gray teeth, missing half of a foot, walked away. She later became good friends with Edward. The Marauders revenged this act of disrespect by poisoning D-Caf at night.
9. Which story did Violet tell the Marauders?

Answer: Jack and the Beanstalk

The Marauders demanded they be told a story as the group rested by the fire. Everyone looked to Violet. She went through several stories such as "Wuthering Heights", "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", and "Around the World in Eighty Days" before deciding on "Jack and the Beanstalk".

She acted the story as well as she could, using fierce emotion. The Marauders loved the story, especially Jack.
10. The Post-Rock Earth was home to which mutated animals?

Answer: Cockroaches and rats

The rats were severely mutated in the five hundred years the Remnants were gone. They grew incredibly large and grew more intelligent, possibly even sentient. The rats were the very Beasts the Marauders feared so much. The cockroaches, which could eat anything and survive almost anything, also grew and mutated.

They were called Slizzers. Those monsters stole the child Tackie away from the camp and devoured her.
