Remnants Trivia Questions

1. "I guess I needed to learn that 'all you need is love.' I grew incredibly paranoid near the end of the series. I also constantly fought for power. Who am I?"

From Quiz
"Remnants" Character Guide

Answer: 2Face

In the beginning 2Face was strong-willed and watched over Edward. But as the series moved forward, she showed that she truly had two faces. When she was about to be fed to the baby, she attempted to work a deal that would send Wylson in her place. She struggled against Yago the entire time for control of the Remnants. The last book found her close to killing Billy. But then she heard a voice telling her that all she needed was love.

2. Echo's friend Lyrics had carried a secret her entire life. What was it?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book 14 "Begin Again"

Answer: She had webbed toes

Lyric had been born with webbed toes. She and Echo had kept this secret her entire life. This was important because in the Alpha colony, if you were deformed in any way, you would be thrown out of their society. Then you would go off on your own or the Marauders added you to their group.

3. Who did Tate think was partially responsible for her mutation?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Thirteen: "Survival"

Answer: Mother

Several Remnants were mutated during the five-hundred year trip through space. Tate was one of them. She became the Mouth at will, sometimes not at will. She grew powerful and saw red. Her mouth grew extremely large, as well. Tate wondered if Mother was partly to blame for the mutation because the ship was very meddlesome. Mother changed Kubrick, as well.

4. Why did the Marauders demand Mo'Steel fight the Beasts?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Twelve: "Aftermath"

Answer: To prove his worth as leader

Mo'Steel killed Hawk, the Marauders' former leader, by stabbing him repeatedly with a Rider boomerang. Mo'Steel himself cut his fingers and was stabbed savagely in the leg, causing an infection and a limp. Because he had defeated the leader, he was automatically appointed the position. But he had to survive the Beasts to do so.

5. Who started the small fight at the beginning of the book?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Number Eleven "Dream Storm"

Answer: Anamull

In the beginning, there were only eleven remaining Remnants (Yago and Tate were on Mother), two Riders, and four Blue Meanies. There was a small fight, causing two Blue Meanie deaths. Noyze reopened her leg wound and Roger Dodger received a horrid hit to his head. Yago, of course, was on the ship during all of the fighting.

6. Who was the first person listed as dead in the story?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Ten "Lost and Found"

Answer: Kubrick

Right at the beginning of the book, Kubrick was listed as dead. He had died trying to save 2Face's life. He fought against the mutant Charlie, who had thrown his porcupine-like body into 2Face. He had been trying to kill Billy but ended up hurting 2Face. Kubrick grew furious and continuously hit Charlie. Apparently, he perished.

7. What were the only movies played in the movie theater?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Nine "No Place Like Home."

Answer: 'Titanic' and 'Men in Black'

'Titanic' and 'Men in Black' were the only two movies in Mother's database. Roger Dodger hated the way the new town was built because everyone was so much older than he. Roger realized he was the only ten-year-old left in the universe.

8. In the beginning of the story, Mo'Steel and Jobs sipped a drink. What was it?

From Quiz "Remnants" book eight "Mother, May I?"

Answer: Pepsi

With thanks to Billy, the fellows were able to enjoy the classic Earth drink. Billy created the drink from his memory, which explained its too light color and its too-sweet taste. Other foods such as tacos were also slightly off because Billy couldn't perfect the taste.

9. Who narrated the first section of the book?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book 6 "Breakdown"

Answer: Mother

The reader got to see inside Mother's mind for the first time in the series. Like Billy, she had been alone for hundreds of years. She was shocked to discover that she was, in fact, so lonely. Mother felt a very special connection to Billy. The computer ended her chapter by thinking "He is here and I am no longer alone."

10. Why did Billy think that Mo'Steel was a figment of his imagination?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Five "Mutation"

Answer: He was too brave

From the moment Billy woke up, he struggled to realize he was conscious and awake. It didn't help that he was usually near Mo' Steel, who was brave and adventurous, almost to a ruthless extent. Billy thought "Mo' Steel can't be a real. A real person would be afraid..." Billy also admitted, still thinking he's dreaming, that he himself would be afraid. He wanted to ask Mo a question but thought "What's the point in talking to a figment of your imagination?"

11. What name was given to the Blimp?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Four "Nowhere Land"

Answer: Beulah

After Mo'Steel tied bits of Remnant clothing together, he fixed one end to his wrist and another to a Rider boomerang. He was able to use this tool to attach himself to a passing Blimp and hitch a ride, after some trying. As usual, Mo'Steel was exhilarated by the ride he received.

12. Who is revealed to have a mutant power in this book?

From Quiz Remnants Book 3: "Them."

Answer: Edward

Unconsciously, he had been changing the color of his skin, blending in to any background he was in. This is the first of many different "powers" some of the Remnants gain throughout the series. This book also features the first time Edward speaks in the series.

13. Which character would say the following: "I had the soul of a poet and the mind of a techie. I ended up with a former Alpha member and named my baby girl after a hero"?

From Quiz "Remnants" Character Guide

Answer: Jobs

Jobs was one of the main characters in the series. It was Jobs who narrated the first regular chapter in the series. He was the one to start the movement to take the ship back to Earth. K.A Applegate told readers that he and Mo'Steel would survive throughout the series.

14. Who was called a shaman by the others?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book 14 "Begin Again"

Answer: Sanchez

Sanchez was the only Marauder to have shaved his head. He also wore a strip of metal on a rope on his neck. This piece of metal was actually part of Mother. Sanchez saw visions given to him by the Source. He knew when it was time for both the Alphas and the Marauders to travel to the Source. He sent Cocker to deliver the message to the Alphas, who held a council and refused to go.

15. What food did Yago desire?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Thirteen: "Survival"

Answer: Soda and ice cream

Because Yago had abandoned Billy on Earth, he had no food or water. They disappeared along with Billy. But Amelia had assured Yago he'd be taken care of. His throat was parched and he wanted soda and soft-serve ice cream. The Troika were hungry, too, but they preferred flesh for food.

16. Who tried to steal Billy's water?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Number Eleven "Dream Storm"

Answer: Anamull

The Remnants were left on Earth with a very limited amount of food and water. Anamull mocked everybody before drinking his own entire water supply. He made his way over to Billy, who was in a coma-like stance, just like in the earlier books. Mo'Steel tried to wrestle the water away. When Anamull drank the water, some of it spilled over his face and the rest of it fell to the ashy ground.

17. What did 2Face want from Violet?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Ten "Lost and Found"

Answer: To be infested with worms

2Face was shocked to realize she wanted to keep the others safe because she cared about them. So she asked Violet to give her the newly revealed mutation. 2Face felt she could save lives, as well. But Violet refused, citing the fact that she had failed to save Tamara and the risk was too great. 2Face eventually threw a boomerang and let it kill her, forcing Violet to give her the worm mutation.

18. What did Jobs think he discovered in Mother's "attic?"

From Quiz "Remnants" book eight "Mother, May I?"

Answer: Earth

Jobs spent large amounts of time exploring in the attic. His hopes soared as he inspected the far-away planet. It had water and land and looked as if the moon had crashed into it. This is the beginning of the Remnants contemplating returning to Earth. It sparks a lot of controversy and arguing.

19. What "activity" did Tamara and the baby participate in?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Seven "Isolation"

Answer: The Rule of Nine

Tamara challenged the leader of the Riders in order to control the Clan. When he refused, she invoked the Rule of Nine. This entails the following: Tamara must fight eight Riders, all at the same time, and then face the leader of the Clan to a win-or-die fight. Tamara fought and defeated all nine.

20. Who sat in a chair in the "basement" of the ship and ended up with a scrambled brain?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Five "Mutation"

Answer: Alberto DiSalvo

Billy, Mo'Steel, and Kubrick first thought the man was dead, but Alberto was able to walk after sitting in the alien chair. It turned out he had inadvertently found a way to interact with the ship's computer. But his fragile mind could not handle it. He walked around speaking gibberish: "Where is everyone?...I like Birthday cake...I could serve the tea and biscotti, why wasn't I invited? Drifting!" He stumbled around and fell on his knees often. Kubrick and the others helped him move about for throughout the rest of the novel.

21. Who named the Blimp?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Four "Nowhere Land"

Answer: Mo' Steel

Just like he coined the term "Blue Meanie," Mo'Steel named the Blimp "Beulah". The entire Remnant group rode this Blimp until it became extremely exhausted and they were forced to hide in its gassy insides. This was when Billy finally woke up and was able to control the Blimp for the others.

22. Who is mentioned in the second book but never make(s) an appearance in this book?

From Quiz Remnants Book 3: "Them."

Answer: Kubrick and his father Albert DiSalvo

Yes, it's true: these two are not mentioned in the entire book. They wake up in the second novel and aren't referenced again. However, they eventually return later in the series. Kubrick is even given a cover of himself on a book later on.

23. Who did Yago appoint as leader?

From Quiz Remnants Book 2 "Destination Unknown."

Answer: Wylson Lefkowitz-Blake

Yago desperately wanted to be leader but knew most people would be more comfortable with an adult. So he basically shoved Wylson into the role. He felt he would be a good number two for the Remnants, and eventually take over the role as leader.

24. Why was Echo so grateful to Jobs for his gift?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book 14 "Begin Again"

Answer: It was the only gift she had ever been given

Jobs gave Echo the rest of his broken crackers before he left to be with Mo'Steel and his battle with the Beasts. Echo wondered if Jobs knew just how much the gift had meant to her. She realized that besides the gift of life, it was the only thing she had ever received.

25. What was Tate's dog named back on Earth?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Thirteen: "Survival"

Answer: Lily

Tate grew extremely depressed when she realized it was too late to save the Remnants abandoned on Earth. She ventured to the basement of Mother and sat against a wall and told herself she was saving her energy for destroying Amelia. But she just sat and wept. She admitted to herself she wished she'd been left on Earth, in her apartment with her dog Lily.

26. Why was Newton mad at Mo'Steel for killing Hawk?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Twelve: "Aftermath"

Answer: He wanted to kill him himself

Hawk was indeed Newton's brother, but that didn't matter. Newton was going to become leader no matter what- even if it meant killing his own brother. So he led Mo'Steel to the Beasts and hoped Mo would die and leave Newton as leader. He could have murdered Mo outright, but admitted he was afraid of the Beasts. He figured the Beasts would kill Mo. He would declare himself leader, and see if anyone had the nerve to object.

27. Why couldn't Violet bring herself to speak to Jobs?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Number Eleven "Dream Storm"

Answer: She didn't feel worthy of his friendship anymore

Jobs regretted the way their relationship had deteriorated. Violet realized he had not been changed by any kind of mutation. Ever since she had revealed the worms inside of her, she felt withdrawn from the others, who had not changed, including Olga, Mo'Steel, Noyze, and Jobs.

28. The Troika was introduced officially in this novel. What exactly was it?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Ten "Lost and Found"

Answer: A mutated group of humans in the basement

The Troika, a name given to the mutants by Billy, consisted of Amelia, Duncan, and Charlie. They were angry with the Remnants for changing Mother's course. Charlie killed Kubrick and attempted to kill Billy. They were all mutants, and communicated with the others by means of a willing Blue Meanie.

29. Jobs noticed someone had a Southern accent. Who was it?

From Quiz "Remnants" Book Nine "No Place Like Home."

Answer: Tamara

Because Tamara had been the spokesperson for the baby/Shipwright, she never truly used her own voice. After the Shipwright was destroyed, Tamara was finally free and able to speak her own opinions in her own way. Jobs noticed a Southern lilt he hadn't noticed before.
