Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are Squids?

Answer: Mother's security

These aptly-named creatures protected Mother when she was feeling vulnerable. Billy told the other Remnants that the Squids were not aliens, but were in fact automatons. The Squids constantly tried to destroy the Blue Meanies. Later in the novel, the Squids attempted to execute the humans.
2. What "activity" did Tamara and the baby participate in?

Answer: The Rule of Nine

Tamara challenged the leader of the Riders in order to control the Clan. When he refused, she invoked the Rule of Nine. This entails the following: Tamara must fight eight Riders, all at the same time, and then face the leader of the Clan to a win-or-die fight. Tamara fought and defeated all nine.
3. Tate really wanted to go with 2Face's group. Why didn't she?

Answer: She wanted to protect Tamara

Tate knew that 2Face's group would be a much better choice because they were much more tolerant and decent to one another. But she felt the need to keep Tamara safe from the baby. Only Tate seemed to notice how much Tamara was a slave to the baby. In book three, Tate tried to protect Tamara's innocence by stopping the baby from devouring a Remnant.
4. Which Remnant acted as 2Face's personal bodyguard?

Answer: Kubrick

2Face was annoyed by the fact that Kubrick stuck to her side constantly. Billy, who had telepathic abilities, could see Kubrick's feelings for her. Kubrick offered to be a target for her and the others and ended up getting shot at, which caused his whole skinless body to smoke.
5. Who was the Deviant?

Answer: Billy

The Baby/Shipwright called Billy the Deviant. Tate was able to figure out that the Shipwright feared just how much power Billy controlled. He ordered Tamara to destroy Billy before he had a chance to use his powers and take control of the ship and the rest of the Remnants.
6. Who is Te?

Answer: The Baby

The Baby called itself Te. It grew more and more like a Shipwright with each Blue Meanie it absorbed. Te eventually grew into a full-grown Shipwright and yearned for complete control of Mother. It also used Tamara to control the Riders so it could manipulate them.
7. Of the following, what does not belong?

Answer: Squid

The squids don't match any of the others, which all describe one entity. Mother was created by Shipwrights. These creatures liked to call themselves "Makers." Te is the name of the main Shipwright in the story. Te was once known simply as The Baby.
8. How did Billy destroy the Shipwright?

Answer: With the power of his mind and the help of Mother

The Shipwright and Billy engaged in a huge battle of the minds. Billy has the ability to feel emotions, such as fear, from his enemy. The Shipwright flung Billy around using its own mind powers and threw a simple bomb at him. Billy shocked the alien through his fingers and even used an atomic bomb on him.

But it was ultimately with the help of Mother and the power of his mind that Billy was able to kill the Shipwright.
9. Besides Tamara, who received special abilities?

Answer: Mo'Steel

The Baby gave Tamara amazing abilities to get what it wanted throughout the first seven books. She was essentially its slave. In this story, someone else finally got a chance to experience that. Billy boosted M'Steel's speed, reflexes, and strength. Mo'Steel, being the thrill-seeker he was, loved every minute of it.
10. Why did Tate weep at the end of the book?

Answer: Tamara was finally free

After Billy defeated the Shipwright, both Tamara and Mo'Steel lost their super abilities. Tamara collapsed and had a weak pulse, but she remained alive. When Billy approached Tate and Tamara, he told her "Tamara is free." Because Tate always felt the need to protect her, she broke down in tears of relief.
