7. In what country is the Northwest Passage?

Answer: Canada

The Northwest Passage is the sailing route along the north of Canada and Alaska between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. It was much searched for by English and other sailors around 1600, but it was only actually navigated in 1906 by the Norseman Roald Amundsen (who also was the first man to go to the South Pole a few years later). With the shrinking of the Arctic ice fields through global warming, it might become a viable route to transport Alaskan oil to eastern North America and Europe in the near future.

8. Canada is the second largest country in the world, but what percentage of the land area of North America does it take up? (the US and Mexico account for more than half of the land area)

Answer: 41%

The answer is 41% according to the "TownsCanada" information website. The clue immediately would rule out 50% and 69%. And if you look at Canada on a map or globe it would clearly show that 25% is a pretty small figure.
