Altadis is the world largest cigar company. They are headquartered in Spain, but most of the product comes from the Dominican Republic. Most cigars are produced in South and Central American Countries and the off-coast islands. While these areas produce the vast majority of cigars, the smoking of the product is not terribly popular amongst the local population.

The curing process can take from 25 days up to 45 days depending on the weather, the type of tobacco and the building the curing is taking place in. The point of curing is to reduce the amount of naturally occurring sugar and water. The leaves are then stacked for fermentation.
