Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of Sookie's friends was killed in book two?

Answer: Lafayette

The part time cook at Merlotte's, Lafayette, was killed and stuffed into Andy Bellefleur's police car. Lafayette had bragged a bit about being invited to a secret party in Bon Temps, which eventually led Sookie to his killers.
2. On their way to Shreveport, Bill and Sookie's car broke down. Sookie met a new creature after she and Bill split up, and this creature attacked her. What was the new creature's name?

Answer: Callisto

We did not know its name until the end of the book. This creature, a maenad, attacked Sookie as a message to Eric. Maenads worshiped sex and drunkenness, and expected to be given a tribute from the leader of whatever area they were residing in at the time.

They passed through areas for a short period of time apiece, and taught a little lesson on their journey. Callisto did not succeed in killing Sookie, but she was badly poisoned that had to be healed by Bill, Eric, Pam and Chow (at Fangtasia).
3. What was the name of the vampire leader in Dallas?

Answer: Stan

Stan dressed in such a way as to seem like a geek. In one of her rare vampire thought readings, Sookie knew he used to be called Stanilaus Davidowitz. He changed that to Stan Davis, sandy haired, bespectacled and geeky. At first, Stan treated Sookie as less than important and didn't want to address her directly. That changed when she risked her life to save his missing vampire brother.

Lasher and Lestat are characters created by author Anne Rice. Sometime in the early 2000s, Anne decided to stop writing what she called "dark fiction" and turn her attention to works that honor the Lord. While I respect her ever evolving outlook on life, I have been deeply saddened by her writing that she regrets creating her vampiric world. These statements I read on her official website.
4. The Dallas vampires had a human traitor in their midst. Was the traitor's name Hugo?

Answer: Yes

Hugo had come to know the group as the lawyer for Stan Davis. He'd defended him against the home owner's association and won. Afterward, Hugo became involved with Isabel, another Dallas area vampire. His involvement turned to vampire addiction, and later to feelings of human betrayal and self loathing.

He planted a listening device in Stan's office, which led to Sookie's life being in danger.
5. Did the missing vampire, Farrell, survive his abduction?

Answer: Yes

Farrell had been taken by a radical human group. They were going to use him as a sacrifice, on camera, to help convince other humans that all vampires should be killed. This group was known as the Fellowship of the Sun, and they imprisoned Hugo and Sookie in their dungeon.
6. Which vampire saved Sookie from being raped and murdered by Gabe?

Answer: Godfrey

Godfrey was a very old vampire, but looked about sixteen years old. He had long blond hair and many ancient tattoos. He'd help the Fellowship of the Sun kidnap Farrell from a local establishment. Sookie had seen Godfrey through reading the thoughts of Bethany. Sadly, after leaning what she (Sookie) could from Bethany, the fellowship murdered her. Gabe locked Hugo in the room with Farrell and then turned his attention to Sookie.

They fought a hard battle, but Sookie was close to losing it. Gabe liked to rape his women while they were unconscious. Godfrey, who planned to give himself to the sun with Farrell, heard all of it happen and saved Sookie's life.
7. In Dallas, Sookie discovered another telepath working at the Silent Shore Hotel.

Answer: True

This young man, Barry, was a bellhop at the hotel. She used Barry to communicate her imminent danger at the fellowship. Barry was shocked by her intrusion into his mind, but did alert Bill to Sookie's situation.
8. Who saved Sookie from the fellowship center, and survived a car accident with her afterward?

Answer: Luna

Luna Garza was working at the fellowship. She was a local shape shifter, and she and Sookie recognized each other immediately as "different" from normal. After Godfrey helped Sookie get out of the dungeon, Luna drove her off the fellowship campus. They were rear-ended by members of the fellowship, which caused Luna's car to roll over.

Many people witnessed the accident and called for help, which made it possible for the two women to get to a hospital without fellowship members taking them first. Luna had a shape shifter doctor who was waiting to attend them and get them safely out of the hospital.
9. What item did Sookie remove from Eric after the fellowship attacked the Dallas vampire headquarters?

Answer: a bullet

Eric lay atop Sookie to protect her from the bullets flying about, and ended up with one in his own shoulder. He told Sookie she had to get it out before the skin healed over it, and that using her mouth would be fastest. She did it, and ingested a bit of Eric's vampiric blood. Later, Bill told Sookie that Eric had a pocketknife he could have used, and that getting her to take in his blood had been his main motive.
10. Bill discovered that he was blood relations with whom, at the end of the book?

Answer: The Bellefleurs

Portia and Andy's grandmother, Caroline Holliday Bellefleur, brought a cake to Sookie as "thank you" for saving her grandson. Caroline left the cake at Sookie's, but called in and left a message on the machine as well. When Bill heard Sookie say her name, he had Sookie go over to his home and retrieve a bible.

In that book was the name of Bill's wife, Caroline Isabelle Holliday. When he added up all he knew and all Sookie knew, he discovered that Caroline Holliday Bellefleur was his great-granddaughter! Sam Merlotte was not from Bon Temps, and had been in town about six years.
