Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It was revealed that this female was pregnant early in the book.

Answer: Tara

Tara was five months along in the opening segment of the book, which was divided into weeks instead of chapters. These weeks occurred in March, and Chapter 1 began with the subtitle "April". Tara and JB du Rone were set to become parents, and Tara wanted to be the most responsible parent, so she was reading "What to Expect When You're Expecting". Later on in the story, Claude told Tara she would be having twins, one of each. Sookie's roommate, Amelia Broadway, left at the beginning to head back to her home in New Orleans.

It was time for her to get back to her life, and take her punishment for Bob Jessup's time as a house cat. Tanya Grissom was living with Hotshot local and head honcho Calvin Norris, and Jessica's a character in the TV series "True Blood".
2. Who first suggested that it was time to kill Victor Madden, Eric's vampire boss?

Answer: Sookie

It was in book eight that Victor had forced Eric to submit to his allegiance. In a coup, plotted out by Vegas vamp Felipe de Castro, many vampires had been assassinated in order for the Vegas King to take control of Louisiana and Mississippi. Among the losses were Queen Sophie and all area sheriffs except for Eric Northman.

The final showdown took place at Sookie's home, and if Eric hadn't agreed fealty, the entire gang in her home would have been killed. In this book, during an intimate moment, Sookie told Eric "we have to kill Victor". Later, she and Pam were discussing the topic, and Sookie discovered that she and Pam were on the same page.

They knew though, that they had to make sure Felipe (who promised to protect Sookie) was also less than thrilled with Victor's ambitious aspirations before they made a move. Kill Victor without that being true, and Felipe would kill them all.
3. Who tried to kill Pam and Sookie, when they were on their way back to Bon Temps from Eric's house in Shreveport?

Answer: Bruno and Corinna, Victor's minions

In Sookie's world, she can never be too sure who may want to kill her at any given time. In this case, it was a fairly straightforward foe, Victor Madden's underlings. Unfortunately for Bruno and Corinna, Pam and Sookie made short work of them and moved their car off the night highway.

Their bodies disintegrated, as vampires do, and the rain of the evening washed away the sludge. Tanya married Calvin, having had her "make Sookie miserable" agenda erased from her memory. Quinn, Sookie's former weretiger love interest, had been sent packing at the end of book eight.

He'd been forced to take the side of Felipe and Victor in the takeover, and had never once warned Sookie. Not only did Sookie lose respect for him, but it was yet another betrayal in a series of betrayals in her life.

She told Amelia that Quinn had too much baggage for her. His insane mother had been held hostage by the Vegas crew so that Quinn would have to take their side. At the last minute, Quinn HAD sent his sister Frannie ahead with a warning, but it was about an hour before the showdown at her home.
4. Claude the fairy was Sookie's latest roommate in this book.

Answer: True

At the end of book nine, Sookie had been held and tortured in the midst of a fairy war. Her cousin Claudine Crane, Claude's twin sister, had died in the fight. They'd already lost their triplet sister Claudette, so Claude was the last of the trio. At the end of the war, Sookie was seriously injured and the door between worlds had been closed by Niall. Niall was Sookie's great-grandfather, and a fairy prince.

He became the last one after the war, leaving him with even more power than he'd had. Claude pressed Sookie to allow him to stay with her, since all the other fairies were locked in Faery.

He missed spending time with his like, and Sookie was part fairy and his relative. She allowed him to stay, feeling for his loneliness. Later, Pam warned her that Claude was pulling something on her, as fairies do not feel loneliness. Alcide's werewolf pack had already warned Sookie that a fairy had been walking around on her property, but Claude had assured her it was not he. Sookie was worried it could be the murderously insane fairy Dermot.

It turned out that Dermot was not insane, but under a spell, and had been for years.
5. What happened to Sookie when Eric's maker appeared at her home?

Answer: her emotions became confused

She was in the process of trying to tell Eric that a fresh body was buried on her property. But, whenever she tried to say it, something else came out of her mouth. She felt like her skin was crawling and her anxiety increased. Then, outside her bedroom window, Appius Livius Ocella appeared.

He had with him another "child" of his making, and explained to Eric that the four way blood bond had her emotionally confused. She went from giddy, to angry, to quiet. She was feeling her own feelings, Eric's, Appius' and Alexei's.
6. Eric's new "brother", Alexei Romanov, was descended from the last known Russian royal family.

Answer: True

The royal family had been murdered in 1918, but the remains were not found until 1979. It was almost 20 years later that a positive identification was made, with the exception of Alexei and one of his sisters. For the sake of this story, Ocella said that he tried to save that missing sister as well, but she was beyond repair. Alexei revealed to Sookie and Jason that he had suffered at the hands of other abusers before his death, and that Ocella was not as evil as he appeared. Sookie narrated that she knew his death would have been imminent in life, as he'd suffered from hemophilia. Later, Ocella revealed he'd been passing his blood to Alexei before his death, via Rasputin.
7. When the gang dug up the body on Sookie's property, who and what did it turn out to be?

Answer: Basim, werewolf

When Sookie was finally able to get out that news, about the body, Eric took charge at once. He'd been submissive and worried the entire visit with Ocella, and welcomed the opportunity to take charge. He called Alcide, who quickly arrived with his second in command (and girlfriend) Annabelle, and head bustin' pack member (and girlfriend to Sam Merlotte) Jannalynn.

They went out and dug up the body, only to find out it was Basim. Basim had been the one to warn Sookie, three days earlier, that an old body (Debbie Pelt) was buried on her property. Now it was he who was dead and buried. Alcide said that a pack member would be out immediately to retrieve and remove the body, but Sookie knew it had been planted for a reason. So, Eric took it across the main road from her driveway for the night, and they filled the hole back in.

After Eric and his two family members left, Sookie immediately rang up Pam at Fangtasia to warn of the arrival, and still unknown intentions, of one Appius Livius Ocella. Pam was shocked, and she let out a hysterical (and unprintable) response.
8. What did Caroline Bellefleur want to see before her death, and who was able to provide it for her?

Answer: family Bible; Bill Compton

In the two years of actual time since the Southern Vampire Series started, old Caroline Bellefleur had been on the decline. She, Andy and Portia had lived in the Belle Rive mansion when the series started, but it had been in long decline. When Bill Compton was dating Sookie, he found out he was Caroline's biological great-grandfather. So, he left the family a ton of money and was able to keep his name out of it.

They used the money to restore Belle Rive to its former splendor, and then had the double wedding of Portia and Andy there. Now, she was in her nineties, on her deathbed, and would not live to see Andy and Halleigh's baby born. So, she desperately wanted to see that family Bible one last time, and Sookie passed the info over to Bill.

She knew he had the Bible, and the pair brought it over to Caroline. Once there, Bill explained the family connection to Caroline, and admitted he had been their mystery benefactor. Caroline was graceful and appreciative, unlike Andy, and died the morning hours after Bill had visited her. Bill was still suffering the heinous side affects of silver poisoning he'd acquired in book nine. So, Sookie decided during their visit to Belle Rive she would have to help him through it.

She snuck into his vampire database and retrieved the info on a vampire named Judith. Judith had been turned by Lorena because she looked so much like Bill's human wife. When Judith found out that Lorena had truly had her final death, she was elated and grateful to Sookie for freeing her. She and Bill had a love bond, as well as a blood bond, and the couple reunited. Bill emailed Sookie and thanked her for her help. Sookie was happy for the couple, but understandably a bit jealous as well.
9. Why did Colman, the fairy, want to execute revenge onto Sookie?

Answer: he blamed her for his child's death

Colman had been the one wandering on her property, as first warned by the Were Basim. He had actually approached Basim to collaborate on framing Sookie, and having her sent to a human jail. Claude later explained that if Colman had truly believed Sookie responsible for the deaths of Claudine and her unborn fairy, he would have killed Sookie.

Instead, he exacted an ill conceived plan of half-hearted revenge. Claude said that seeing her with her nephew Hunter, in the park, had swayed his initial plans a bit.

He did try to kill Sookie, when confronted on her property, but his blade missed her and went into the body of Eric's maker, Appius. Appius warned Sookie silently at the last second to move, even though he knew she was contemplating staking him herself.
10. Who was left alive, more or less (in relation to vampires) at the end of the novel?

Answer: Eric Northman

After Sookie and Jason had attended Alcide's tribunal of sorts in Shreveport, they were heading back to Bon Temps. Jason suggested that he just drop Sookie off at Eric's house, since she was recovering from her mystical, drug induced, turn as Were Shaman. Sookie's blood connection made her realize there was big trouble at Eric's, so they headed there as fast as they could. Once inside, they found a gravely wounded pair in Eric and Pam, but both would quickly recover with a blood donation. Bobby, who had been warned by Sookie, had tried to intervene on Eric's behalf when Alexei "lost it" once more. Alexei had already caused two public deaths in town, and was shown to be clearly insane. Alexei killed Bobby, a human, and tried to kill Eric and Pam.

He and Appius arrived in Bon Temps, Alexei looking for Jason and Appius trying to stop him. When Jason, Sookie, and Eric got back to her house they found Claude and Colman back to back, trying to fend off Alexei's attacks. In the end, Eric's staked Alexei, and then drained Colman dry. Eric's emotions were mixed on the death of his maker, as he was truly free of any form of bondage.

The fairy blood made him strong and elated in feeling, and he promised Sookie that he'd clean up the mess and they'd be happy together once again.
