Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Very early on in the book, Sookie had her hair burned off at the ends. Where was she when she encountered a Molotov cocktail and lost her hair?

Answer: Merlotte's

Things at the bar at been slow as of late, due to more than one event. It could have been the fact that Sam, the bar owner, had come out to the world as a 'twoey', or shapeshifter. Sam was a true shifter, since he could change into whichever animal he wanted to become. Or, it could have been the opening of another, more raucous, bar 10 miles away called Vic's Redneck Roadhouse. Sookie spotted someone moving outside the bar at superhuman speed right before the flaming bottle was tossed through a window. Sam was able to prevent the bar from sustaining too much damage, but Sookie's apron caught fire and singed off a portion of her ponytail. Pam had to bring a hairdresser to Sookie's house to repair her hairstyle, which resulted in her losing about three inches of length.

It was later discovered that Vic's and a place called Vampire's Kiss were both owned by the ruthless Victor Madden. He was trying to put both Sam and Eric's Fangtasia out of business.
2. Who sent Jack and Lily Leeds to Merlotte's to warn Sookie about Sandra Pelt?

Answer: Desmond Cataliades

Mr. Cataliades was a demon lawyer that Sookie had met after the death of her cousin Hadley. So, when the private investigators came into the bar on his instruction, Sookie believed them. She'd met the couple previously after the Pelts hired them to investigate the disappearance of their daughter Debbie, whom Sookie had killed in self-defense in book four.

They warned Sookie that Sandra Pelt, Debbie's sister, had been released from prison. Sookie hadn't realized the vicious young woman had been sent away for attacking her cousin, who'd been left a portion of her late parents' estate. Soon after their warning, a group of Sandra's hired goons arrived to try and kill Sookie. Between Sam, the Leeds, and Jannalynn, Sookie's life was saved. Sandra later admitted that the goons and the firebombing were all attempts by her to kill Sookie.
3. One of the antique dealers from Splendide found a secret door in the desk that once belonged to Sookie's human grandfather. Inside was a letter from her grandmother and a gift from Sookie's fairy grandfather Fintan. What was that magical gift called?

Answer: Cluviel dor

Sam and Sookie had taken a trip together to the antiques store Splendide. Sam bought a pair of earrings for his girlfriend, Were-pack enforcer Jannalynn, and Sookie had arranged to have some of the stuff out of her attic examined for value. Once at her home, the dealers found several pieces they wanted to purchase, as well as a secret compartment in her grandfather Mitchell Stackhouse's old desk.

They allowed her to open it before they paid for it, and she found a letter from her grandmother and an old velvet pouch.

She did not have the chance to examine either one immediately. Once she had opened the letter, she found that her Grams had written it not so long ago, and it was addressed specifically to Sookie. Grams explained everything about her time with Fintan the fairy.

She was a bit ashamed of the affair, but admitted she'd wanted children so badly that it had been worth it in the end. She also explained that someone had brought the cluviel dor to her after Fintan's death, and Sookie sussed out that it had been Mr. Cataliades, watching over her even as a small child. Sookie described her mystical inheritance as green on the outside, but a warm green.

It was the size of two stacked Oreo cookies, and made her feel love when she held it close and regret when she had to release it. She did her best to hide it cleverly inside her home.
4. Was Sookie able to find the thin doorway into Faery, located in the woods near her home?

Answer: Yes

Once Sam forced Dermot and Claude to admit the reason Sookie was feeling more and more like one of the Fae, she demanded a full explanation from them about everything. It didn't come right away, but when it did, Claude also told her about a thin membrane that existed to Faery. Niall had not closed them all out entirely! It was not a big opening, and it was not exactly visible, but somehow Sookie knew she could find it.

She did search the woods until she found an inexplicable clearing with a faintly shimmering aura close to the ground.

The high grasses worked to disguise it, as well as the lowness to the ground. So, she lowered herself down and started talking to her great grand-father fairy, Niall. She was not sure he could hear her, but she wanted to express how much she missed him.

Then, she sent a blade of grass into the shimmer, let it go, and saw it disappear.
5. Who was able to discover a cure for, and subsequently break, the blood bond between Sookie and Eric?

Answer: Amelia

Sookie had asked Amelia to search for a way to break the blood bond she had with Eric. It was part of their "marriage" and he'd used it to protect her, mainly, from the vicious plotting of Victor Madden. She'd been tricked into making the bond, and wanted to find a way out of it, if the time came she so chose. Amelia did discover a way out, with the help of her coven, and immediately pressed Sookie to allow her to perform the spell/ritual. Sookie did not warn Eric that she was about to break the bond, and after it worked, he was mightily angry with all involved.

Despite that fact, Sookie felt instant relief from being so emotionally connected to her lover. It allowed her to examine her true feelings for him, and afterward she discovered a startling fact about Eric's future.
6. Sookie came up with a plan to kill Victor Madden. Which vampire was the key to getting Victor to walk into a trap set up specifically to send him to his final death?

Answer: Bubba, aka Elvis the vampire

Bubba was the key since Victor was a huge fan of the "late" Elvis Presley. Sookie had noticed the life-size cutout of Elvis when they'd visited Victor at Vampire's Kiss. And, since Bubba was the real Elvis, what better way to lure Victor to his demise? Despite the carnage that occurred at Fangtasia that night, it kind of came off without a hitch. Sookie was barely hurt at all, which was not normal, and Eric's crew did not suffer much loss. Pam had lost her human lover Miriam earlier that night, but it was a death by disease. Victor had refused to allow Pam to make her own child, which would have obviously saved Miriam, and the poor woman wasted away before they could get rid of the evil vampire regent.

It was Miriam's brother, Immanuel, who'd repaired Sookie's hairstyle after the firebombing at the beginning of the novel.

He was also on hand at the battle of Victor, as I like to call it.
7. After the blood bond had been broken with Eric, who did Sookie come home to find waiting for her in her bed?

Answer: Alcide

It seemed as though Amelia had more on her mind than simply breaking Sookie's bond with Eric. She, Jannalynn, and Claude all played a part in convincing Were pack leader Alcide to go to Sookie's home and wait for her to return. Sookie was furious with all of the players in this little control scenario! She was mostly angry with Amelia, and mostly disappointed in Alcide, whom she believed should have known better than to listen to any one of them.

She sent him packing, and the next morning threw out Amelia, Bob and Claude.

She allowed her great uncle to stay, as he had not figured into the plot. Dermot was grateful, and was happy to be to continue his remodel of her attic. He also asked if he could attend the baby shower Sookie was having at her home, and she agreed that he could be the only man there.

It turned out that another male would arrive at that event before it ended...
8. Before the baby shower for Tara du Rone ended, which male in Sookie's life arrived at her home to bring her up to speed on some fairy business?

Answer: Mr. Cataliades

Mr. Cataliades was literally on the run from some unknown enemy. He dropped by Sookie's during his flight from that enemy. The baby shower was still going on, so Sookie allowed him to stay in the kitchen and eat a lot of food. After all the guests had departed, the demon lawyer filled her in on some of her own back story.

He explained a lot about the fairyness of her life, and confirmed the truth behind her telepathy. He'd given Fintan and Adele Stackhouse a thimble of his blood. So, whenever one of their offspring, or other descendant, was born with the "essential spark", that person would inherit his telepathy. Adele had the essential spark herself, but she drank the blood without her knowledge. He also warned that other Fae would kill her to get to the cluviel dor. I personally believed Claude was one of those potential killers.

He could not stay long, but did confirm a lot of the things Sookie already believed to be true. Then in a flash, Desmond Cataliades, demon, lawyer, best-friend of Fintan, and Sookie's sponsor, sped off!
9. It turned out that the secret Eric was keeping from Sookie was that he was legally bound to wed the Queen of Oklahoma.

Answer: True

This secret was the ominous source of tension between Pam and Eric. Being her maker, Eric had been able to force Pam's silence in the matter. But, that did not stop her from doing everything remaining in her power to get Sookie to realize she needed to know something she did not know.

It took Sookie awhile to figure out that the only thing that was important to her, in regards to her relationship, was if Eric had another woman in his life. It turned out that the evil Appius had arranged a legal vampire marriage, which was his right to do under their laws, before his death. So, his final words to Sookie, "you'll never keep Eric", were true.

He knew Eric would be bound by the contract, and that Eric would honor it even in his death. Eric explained he'd done everything he could to get out of the marriage, but Sookie did not quite buy it.

The queen was beautiful and powerful and would make Eric just about as powerful as he'd ever craved to become. She believed Eric loved her, but not as much as he loved power. Eric explained that in order to marry this queen, he'd have to forgo his relationship with Sookie. Sookie already knew that part before he said it, and the grief began to set in.

She accepted it before she accepted it, so to speak.
10. Which statement below is NOT a truth from "Dead Reckoning"?

Answer: Bill married his vampire lover Judith

Bill actually wanted to be rid of Judith. It turned out that Judith had always been obsessed with Bill, but that he had never returned any feelings of love for her. He'd happily accepted her arrival in book ten, because he needed her help recovering from the silver poisoning. Judith heard him tell Sookie all of this, and she agreed to leave for the sake of her pride if nothing else. It was Amelia who found out the info on the cluviel dor, as Sookie had asked her to do. She emailed the info to Sookie, since she knew her friend was too mad to take her phone calls. The fairy love tokens took at least a year to create, and Amelia believed it to be possible that no fairy could even make one anymore. You could make one wish on the mystical object, and it had to be a personal wish. Though your wish could seem small, the cluviel dor had the ability to change the course of the future, or the past, vastly changing many lives at once.

As Claude had predicted, Tara was pregnant with twins. And, Jannalynn did kill Sandra Pelt. Sandra took Jannalynn and Sam hostage in order to get to Sookie. Sookie had them lead Sandra out to her house, and then she waited for them in the woods. Sookie shot Sandra with the same shotgun she'd killed Debbie Pelt with, but that did not kill the young shifter. Jannalynn attacked Sandra, and after an intense battle, Sandra was still alive! So, Jannalynn finally snapped the woman's neck, ending her sad ugly life once and for all. Sam and Sookie carried Sandra Pelt's body out to the portal in the woods, and slid her small frame through it into Faery. They heard vicious sounds coming out of the portal afterward, and Sookie assumed whatever was on the other side had consumed her. Sam agreed to dispose of Sandra's rifle somewhere in the woods after they left her home, and Sookie decided she'd forget the issues at hand for now, and go watched some of her recorded episodes of "Jeopardy".
