1. Who was the first character to realize suicides were occurring at the crossroads?

After the first suicide, a homeless woman named Tabby Ann Masterson, Lemuel hid the evidence. When the next one happened, Lem felt it was time to have a town meeting about it. Suicide number two was Joshua Allen. He was followed by Price Eggleston, who'd kidnapped Fiji in book two. After that, they took measures to prevent any more people from being talked into their own deaths. This did not stop animals from dying en masse at the crossroads of Witch Light Road and Davy Highway.

It was the decades-long closed Rio Roca Fria Hotel, that sat at the intersection of Davy Highway and Witch Light Road. A bunch of trucks rolled into town carrying supplies, and Manfred noticed a woman (Eva Culhane) who appeared to be in charge getting out of a Lexus. They began removing the boards from the hotel's doors and windows. Manfred narrated that it reminded him of "a giant boot kicking a dormant anthill". The former name of the hotel translates into Cold River Rock Hotel. It reopened as Midnight Hotel, and catered to old folks "waiting" to get a permanent placement elsewhere, long term visitors, and had a few rooms left for short stays as well.

The first sentence of the book stated that you might pass through Midnight without noticing it. It was a small town with a Gas N Go, Home Cookin' Restaurant, a magic shop, Antique Gallery and Nail Salon, and a pawnshop. The fictional locale was said to be about ten minutes from the actual town of Davy, Texas (which became New Davy in the 1980s). Manfred was a young man who ran an online psychic business. He'd inherited his psychic abilities, though they were not always "on", and some of his online business was a bit of a sham. He first appeared in 2006, in Charlaine's "Harper Connelly" series. The three incorrect choices reflect characters from three Stephen King stories.

Copley, a once successful New Orleans lumber tycoon, and his bodyguard Tyrese met with a devil to make a deal. They met at a crossroads (deemed traditional and reminiscent of the TV series "Supernatural") in January. The pair traded their souls for a wish granted. Since Copley brought Tyrese along, the devil allowed him a bonus wish. Copley first wanted his former success returned. The second wish he wanted to think about, and would cash in later. Tyrese wanted a particular woman to fall in love with him, though Copley and the devil thought it a foolish waste of a wish. Copley waited until June before he asked the devil to locate the cluviel dor. He wanted to use it to get his daughter Amelia back. Of course, he had no way of knowing Sookie had already used the magical item to bring Sam back to life.

Despite Arlene's likeability on the TV series "True Blood", she'd been long gone in the novels by this point. She'd turned against her co-workers and sold them out. She almost had Sookie killed several books back, and had not been heard from since that time. Tara was almost nine months pregnant with twins, one boy and one girl, and got quite a shock when she discovered her husband, JB du Rone, working as a stripper at the club! Also there with those two, were Holly, Michelle and Kennedy. Holly was engaged to Hoyt Fortenberry, Michelle was soon to be engaged to Jason Stackhouse, and Kennedy worked at Merlotte's with Sookie.

Things at the bar at been slow as of late, due to more than one event. It could have been the fact that Sam, the bar owner, had come out to the world as a 'twoey', or shapeshifter. Sam was a true shifter, since he could change into whichever animal he wanted to become. Or, it could have been the opening of another, more raucous, bar 10 miles away called Vic's Redneck Roadhouse. Sookie spotted someone moving outside the bar at superhuman speed right before the flaming bottle was tossed through a window. Sam was able to prevent the bar from sustaining too much damage, but Sookie's apron caught fire and singed off a portion of her ponytail. Pam had to bring a hairdresser to Sookie's house to repair her hairstyle, which resulted in her losing about three inches of length. It was later discovered that Vic's and a place called Vampire's Kiss were both owned by the ruthless Victor Madden. He was trying to put both Sam and Eric's Fangtasia out of business.

Bill Compton, Sookie's first lover, fought in the Civil War in both the books and the TV series. In the books he reveals to Sookie that he was turned by Lorena in 1868, when he was in his late twenties. It is not until Book 10 ("Dead in the Family") that we find out exactly how Lorena turned him. The TV series depicts Bill as being turned whilst still in his army uniform. Despite these small differences, Bill's appearance and character in the TV series is very close to the books' description. He is serious, thoughtful, considerate and perhaps a little boring.

Later on in the story, Claude told Tara she would be having twins, one of each. Sookie's roommate, Amelia Broadway, left at the beginning to head back to her home in New Orleans. It was time for her to get back to her life, and take her punishment for Bob Jessup's time as a house cat. Tanya Grissom was living with Hotshot local and head honcho Calvin Norris, and Jessica's a character in the TV series "True Blood".

Arlene became unglued at the knowledge of Sam's true self, and quit the bar after years of service. This left Sookie in a bind to arrange enough wait staff, so she turned to an old enemy. In the HBO TV series "True Blood", Sam has no known biological kin in season one. He was shown to be adopted and shunned when he first turned into a dog.

In "All Together Dead", we find out that Sookie had to pay Dr. Ludwig as well.

The shooter's M.O. was not clear to local law enforcement, as they did not know about the existence of shifters. Sookie alerted Alcide when he came to town to ask her to accompany him to a funeral. Sookie was shot later in the book, as she had smelled like a shifter to the killer.

She was eating with two other people, who later died. The next day she talked with him briefly before going about her business. Manfred was now even more confused as to why Olivia's job left her frequently battered and bruised, and suspected she had killed the couple with whom she'd dined.

He'd been out of town when she disappeared, and was visibly saddened by her death. She had not gained many friends during her time in Midnight, so there were several possibilities on who may have killed her.

They warned Sookie that Sandra Pelt, Debbie's sister, had been released from prison. Soon after their warning, a group of Sandra's hired goons arrived to try and kill Sookie. Between Sam, the Leeds, and Jannalynn, Sookie's life was saved. Sandra later admitted that the goons and the firebombing were all attempts by her to kill Sookie.

In Book 9 ("Dead and Gone") we learn that when Sam's mother revealed herself as a shifter, Sam's stepfather shot and wounded her. In the TV series, Sam is presented as being bought up by foster parents, who moved house and left him behind when they discovered his shape shifting abilities, which developed with puberty.

In a coup, plotted out by Vegas vamp Felipe de Castro, many vampires had been assassinated in order for the Vegas King to take control of Louisiana and Mississippi. The final showdown took place at Sookie's home, and if Eric hadn't agreed fealty, the entire gang in her home would have been killed. In this book, during an intimate moment, Sookie told Eric "we have to kill Victor". Later, she and Pam were discussing the topic, and Sookie discovered that she and Pam were on the same page. They knew though, that they had to make sure Felipe (who promised to protect Sookie) was also less than thrilled with Victor's ambitious aspirations before they made a move. Kill Victor without that being true, and Felipe would kill them all.

Sookie could read him easily, and broke a record at cool so as not to allow him the pleasure of upsetting her in any way. From Charlaine Harris' description and my own imagination, I could see George Hamilton playing the part of this wealthy cad. Later into the book, Sookie did him a favor (though it was really for Amelia) by getting him an interview with Sandy after the coup. Eric Sinclair is Betsy Taylor's vampire king in MaryJanice Davidson's "Dead" series.

The young werewolves were killed afterward, during their stint in jail. It wasn't until later that Sookie figured out exactly who had sent the animals after her. Sandra Pelt, sister of Debbie Pelt, had turned the boys into wolves and sent them after Sookie. Real world fun fact: Construction on the Strand Theater began in 1923 by two families. They were the Saenger and Ehrlich brothers. In 1977 the theater was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and in 1980 it had a grand re-opening after a massive renovation.

She begged Calvin to protect Jason from persecution and death, and explained his exhilaration at his new shifter status. It was also strange to see a werewolf guarding the room of a werepanther, as the wolves saw themselves as the true Weres. The killer shot Dawson while he was protecting Sookie.
