Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sookie was a last minute stand in for one of Halleigh's bridesmaids.

Answer: True

Tiffany fainted just before the ceremony was to begin. Halleigh came to Sookie in a panic. Sookie was already a bit miffed at having to tend bar at a wedding she'd received an actual invitation to, but she couldn't resist Halleigh Robinson in her time of need. Andy and Halleigh tied the knot along side Andy's sister Portia and her man Glen Vick.
2. Who came to Bon Temps early in the story and told Sookie that her cousin Hadley had left behind a child?

Answer: Copley Carmichael

Copley "call me Cope" Carmichael was Amelia Broadway's father. Amelia was tense about his visit, and spent copious amounts of time cleaning and cooking for him. The man seemed absolutely delighted at the chance to shock Sookie, whom he'd also done a background check on before his arrival. Sookie could read him easily, and broke a record at cool so as not to allow him the pleasure of upsetting her in any way. From Charlaine Harris' description and my own imagination, I could see George Hamilton playing the part of this wealthy cad. Later into the book, Sookie did him a favor (though it was really for Amelia) by getting him an interview with Sandy after the coup.

Eric Sinclair is Betsy Taylor's vampire king in MaryJanice Davidson's "Dead" series.
3. Who accompanied Sookie when she first met her great-grandfather, Niall Brigant?

Answer: Eric Northman

When Eric passed on the news that someone of significance wanted to met her, Sookie was not made aware that it was a long lost relative. Eric was mysterious and seemed distracted from even that big news. He drove her to a nice restaurant to meet Niall (pronounced Nye All).

There she learned that this was the fairy who'd donated to her bloodline. He'd been enamored with a human and produced two half breed sons. One of these had seduced Sookie's grandmother while she was married and gave her the two children that her own husband couldn't supply. Sookie also discovered that Claude and Claudine were her relatives as well, and that Niall had sent Claudine to Sookie several books earlier.
4. Which of these shifters did not die during Priscilla and Cal's attempt at a coup?

Answer: Sam

Cal and Priscilla died as well, along with Amanda Whatley. Maria-Star, Christine Larrabee, and Libby Furnan were killed before the meeting. Sookie arranged a meeting between Patrick and Alcide after Maria-Star had been murdered by Cal. She attended the meeting to vouch for the truth or the lack thereof.

When Patrick found out that Cal had murdered Maria-Star, Sookie could read that he had no idea that it had taken place. Priscilla stepped forward and admitted she was a pack leader trying to take over the turf of Patrick Furnan.

A terrible brawl took place after the shifters changed into animal form, and Sookie found herself caught right in the fray. Claudine popped in to protect Sookie and took out a few Weres herself. Sookie had just discovered that her great grandfather Niall had sent Claudine to Sookie to protect her. Sam did a fair job of that as well, in his transformed state of a lion. Before it all ended, Claudine warned Sookie not to always count on her to show up and save her.
5. After the death of Patrick Furnan, did Alcide declare himself leader of the pack?

Answer: Yes

Sam and Claudine hastily removed Sookie from the scene after Alcide's declaration. They didn't want her to witness the ritual to follow, since she and Alcide had a history together (I assume that was the reason). When Sookie witnessed Patrick's ritual after his own ascension, it had been extremely shocking for her.
6. After Portia and Halleigh's wedding, Sookie met a mysterious Asian vampire outside of Merlotte's. We later found out that this vampire, Jonathan, was a spy for someone. Who?

Answer: Felipe de Castro, King of Nevada

Yep, Bon Temps and the surrounding areas were the victims of a hostile takeover by the King of Nevada. Jonathan had erroneously claimed to have Eric Northman's approval to approach Sookie, but when she questioned him, Eric claimed to know nothing about this newbie. Later, when the details began to unfold, we learned that Jonathan was sent by the king to spy on Sookie and the rest of the importants of Louisiana.
7. Sookie broke up with Quinn a bit after Eric was forced to accept a new leader, the King of Nevada.

Answer: True

Every since she'd last seen Quinn after the explosion in Rhodes, Sookie had been trying to get a hold of him again. The car she'd borrowed from Frannie in Rhodes had mysteriously vanished not long after Sookie got back to Bon Temps. After Sookie met Niall, been shot at by Lucky the Were, helped Amelia reconstruct Maria-Star's murder, and tried to broker a peace between Alcide and Patrick, she had time to begin to figure out the bigger picture at stake. Eric was very powerful and the Queen of Louisiana was still trying to grow back her legs after Rhodes.

She was unable to oversee as she normally would, and very vulnerable. Then she realized that Pam was hanging around to watch over her, and was abruptly spelled by Bill Compton. That same night, Quinn's sister Frannie arrived in a state of panic and finally revealed why Sookie hadn't heard from Quinn in so long.

Their crazy mother had escaped her facility and murdered some folks. The Vegas vamps had cleaned up her mess, and that left Quinn with the debt to vamps once again.

Then, the same Vegas vamps took out all the sheriffs and Queen Sophie-Ann in their attempt to take over Louisiana. Eric was forced to accept his new king via his liaison Victor Madden, and Sookie was forced to accept that Quinn would never be able to place her first on his list. She ended their relationship the next morning, and he accepted it begrudgingly.
8. The day after the King of Nevada forced his position onto Eric, Eric gave Sookie two gifts. What were they?

Answer: a new door and a red cellphone

The previous evening Sookie had tried to call Niall for help out of their impending doom scenario. Eric grabbed her cellphone away from her, smashed it against her wall. Quinn had forced his way into Sookie's house as his tiger persona and ruined her front door. Sookie woke up to a FedEx delivery of her brand new cellphone, red, from Eric.

He'd also remembered that he was once madly in love with Sookie, which prior to now had been an erased memory. Though he seemed taken aback by the depth of his feelings, he also seemed pleased to know that they'd shared such an intimate experience.

He signed his note with the cellphone with "Sorry about the other one, lover". Soon after that gift arrived, Home Depot showed up to repair her front door.
9. Did Bob the cat finally become Bob the man once again?

Answer: Yes

Octavia Fant was able to make Bob Jessup human once more. When she first arrived, she pretended that she couldn't do it. Octavia wanted an excuse to revisit Sookie and Amelia. Amelia was relieved to see that her mentor and coven leader had also made a mistake.

It made her own shortcomings easier to forgive. Bob made plans to reconnect with his family after being told of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Octavia, also homeless after Katrina, became Sookie's third roommate. Though it was a bit of an inconvenience, another powerful witch couldn't be a bad thing.
10. By the end of the novel, Sookie had a new male in her life. What was his name?

Answer: Hunter Savoy

Sookie finally took Niall up on his offer to do her a favor. She asked him to locate Hadley's ex-husband Remy Savoy. The next morning she had his address. It was in a town about 80 miles south of Bon Temps. She drove there and introduced herself and met her second cousin, four year old Hunter Savoy. Remy was very wary of Sookie, as though he anticipated she wanted to take Hunter away. Coupled with the fact that Hadley had described Sookie as disabled and disturbed, Remy was right to be wary.

It did not take Sookie very long to begin setting the man at ease. Before she left, she met Remy's girlfriend Kristin as well and came to realize that Hunter had her own gift of telepathy.

She made it clear to Remy that he was to call her for help before the time the telepathy made Hunter completely miserable.

He agreed to do so, and the book ended. A new story is already waiting in the wings for book nine!
