Gary always read the introduction to the novel, by Peter S. Beagle, as it helped put some perspective on his imagination while at work.

Answer: Mickey McMickey

When Kelsey catches Mickey, Mickey is obliged by the laws of Faerie to complete any task required of him by his captor. Mickey honours this request by finding a human to fill the armour of the legendary knight Cedric Donigarten.

Answer: Ceridwen

Ceridwen enjoys a lot of power in the land of Faerie and fears this will be diminished should the spear be re-forged.

Gary befriends a giant by the name of Tommy One-Thumb. Tommy is the key to escaping the island. After their arrival on Ynis Gwidrin, Ceridwen informs that there is no escape by conventional means. Boats would disintegrate in waters turned to acid and should they find a way to fly, a strong wind would push them down into the acidic water.

However, Gary witnessed Tommy fishing in the waters. He improvised a snorkel for the giant and Tommy was able to carry the band of heroes from the island.

The slow-witted lava newts are easily deceived by Mickey's illusions as our band steal into the castle to enable Kelsey's challenge to Robert.

Gary Leger had inadvertently stolen a knife from Robert's castle. This act nullified the terms of Robert's banishment. This allowed Robert to fly free without any fear of encountering Ceridwen who was also banished to her island, for 100 years, as a result of Gary Leger's actions.

Answer: Gerbil

Gerbil is the inventor of the Mountain Messenger, or M & M. An artillery powered system used to transport goods over the mountains from Gondabuggan to Drochit. He is also the first M & M'onaut as he was the first gnome to be sent on the 40 mile airborne journey.

Our band are being attacked by sentient trees when Robert sets the area on fire with his breath weapon. Kelsey, Geno and Gerbil lead Robert back towards Braemar. While Gary and Mickey use Gerbil's quadricycle to go in the opposite direction towards their goal, Robert's castle.
