Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Knock at the Cabin" was adapted from a short novel by Paul G. Tremblay. What was the name of the original novel?

Answer: The Cabin at the End of the World

"The Cabin at the End of the World" was published originally in 2018, and won the Bram Stoker Award for Novels in 2019. The novel features the same basic premise of a gay couple and their adopted daughter being cornered by a group of people proclaiming an imminent apocalypse, but the novel and film diverge in plots somewhat halfway through.
2. Which actor, formerly a WWE professional wrestler, starred as Leonard, the de facto leader of the intruders?

Answer: Dave "Batista" Bautista

Dave Bautista has had many other acting roles, including as Drax in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films as well as in the "Knives Out" sequel, "Glass Onion". According to a "Variety" article, Shyamalan said at the film's premiere that he cast Bautista based on his role in "Blade Runner 2049" - and how even in a scene with no dialogue, Bautista's physical acting was able to communicate so much.
3. Naturally, it is difficult for Eric and Andrew to believe that the intruders are genuinely trying to avert an apocalypse. Andrew specifically considers other motivations as he feels he has met one of them before. Which of the intruders does Andrew recognise?

Answer: Redmond

Andrew believes that Redmond, played by Rupert Grint, is a man who once assaulted him in a bar. At the time, that man was going by the name Rory O'Bannon rather than Redmond. This leads him to conclude that this is either a hate crime against them as a gay couple, or a more general revenge plot by Redmond. Andrew later finds his wallet and proves that he actually is Rory O'Bannon - but of course, that doesn't necessarily mean the apocalyptic omens aren't true.
4. Eric sustains an injury in the initial assault by the intruders. What kind of injury is this?

Answer: A head injury

Eric sustains a head injury in the initial assault on the cabin that leaves them tied to chairs in the living area. He is suffering from symptoms of concussion that gradually get worse throughout the remainder of the film. This is likely a strongly contributing factor to why he finds it increasingly easy to believe the stories of the impending apocalypse that are being spun by the intruders.
5. The intruders say they must sacrifice themselves one by one if Eric, Andrew and Wen do not sacrifice one of themselves. Who is the first sacrifice?

Answer: Redmond

The other three intruders work together to kill Redmond with their makeshift weapons. Redmond has covered his face with a cloth hood willingly prior to the sacrifice. Eric believes that he sees a figure of light when Redmond is killed, although this may be a symptom of the concussion he had sustained.
6. Each time an intruder is sacrificed, another predicted disaster begins to befall the world as seen on the news. Which of the following is *NOT* one of them?

Answer: Wildfires

The prediction made by the intruders is that the oceans will rise, a pandemic will spread, and the skies will fall. This appears to come true in the form of megatsunamis, mass plane crashes, and a deadly flu virus spreading rapidly. There is fire that emerges in the final scenes of the film, caused by the plane crashes and lightning, but this was not a foretold disaster.
7. In an attempt to escape, Andrew secures his gun from the truck and ends up shooting someone. Who does he kill?

Answer: Sabrina

Sabrina is shot dead by Andrew, and then decapitated by Leonard, who isn't sure whether this still counts as her sacrifice since she was shot in a struggle rather than being deliberately sacrificed. Interestingly, this is one point where the film diverges from the book: no spoilers though!
8. Director M Night Shyamalan cameos in this movie.

Answer: True

He appears in an infomercial, trying to sell an air fryer. This may slip a few people by as, in a story that is told in such a closed location (a cabin in the wilderness), there may not seem to be many opportunities for a cameo - but Shyamalan found one anyway!
9. Eric believes that the intruders represent something religious. Who does he believe they are?

Answer: The four horsemen

He concludes that this is why there are exactly four of them: they represent the four horsemen from the New Testament. These have been referred to in pop culture by various names but in the Book of Revelation only the fourth horseman is given a name: Death.
10. Who among Eric, Andrew and Wen is sacrificed at the end of the film?

Answer: Eric

Eric is completely convinced of what the intruders have told them and pleads with Andrew to let him be the sacrifice so that Wen has a chance to grow up in a world that isn't destroyed. Andrew still believes that Eric is being unduly influenced by his concussion and the world won't really end, but eventually agrees.

The apocalyptic events certainly do seem to cease after Eric is killed, so perhaps the sacrifice really did do something after all.
