Samara Morgan was the adopted child of Anna and Richard Morgan. Anna could be classified as a killer because she did kill Samara, but that was a very small part of the movie. Samara died in a well, and she climbed out of it as a ghost and came out of the televisions of unsuspecting victims who watched her cursed tapes. Rachel was the main protagonist of the movie; she wanted to end the curse.

After people watched Samara's cursed tapes, they got a phone call from her. She said "Seven days" when the victim picked up the phone, which signified that they had seven days left to live. Samara had nothing to do with people who set foot in her house (that was from 'The Grudge' (2004) ), and as far as we know, no one ever threw things inside her well.

Answer: Stared at them and devastated their bodies

After their seven days were up, Samara crawled out of her victim's television. This thoroughly terrified them, and she slowly progressed towards them. Then the hair covering her face moved, and she stared at them with her horrific face. This severely distorted their faces, killing them instantly.

Answer: A horribly distorted face, always blocked by unusually long hair

Samara's face from 'The Ring' (2002) was messed up because she lived in the water of the well for seven days. She just rotted there, and her body became horribly disfigured, too. However we rarely got to see her face because of the hair which hid it. That made it much more suspicious because before we saw that face, we all wanted to see what was behind that hair!
Freddy Kreuger's face from 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' (1984) was badly messed up from being burned. His head was torched and forever after, his face had bad burns all over it.

Answer: She merely grabbed their arm, which left a burn mark.

Samara from 'The Ring' (2002) appeared in her victims' dreams when she grabbed hold of their arms. Then, when the victims woke up, there would be a bad burn on the spot where Samara grabbed them. The burn even outlined Samara's hand. Aidan and Rachel both got these marks in the movie.
Similarly, the damage that Freddy Kreuger from 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' (1984) made also remained when the victims awoke.

In 'The Ring' (2002), Samara was trapped in a well before she became a murderous ghost. After being thrown down into the well by her mother, Samara lived - trapped - down there for seven days before she died.
In 'Silence of the Lambs' (1991), killer Buffalo Bill kept his victims trapped at the bottom of a dry well for a while before he killed them. One victim managed to trick him by coaxing his dog to jump into the elevator basket through which she got her food.

In 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning' (2006), Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface) was left in a dumpster to die by his biological mother. Shortly afterward, a woman rummaging through the trash found him there, called him "beautiful", and took him in as her own.
In 'The Ring' (2002), Samara was almost killed by her mother by drowning. However, the mother (Evelyn) was stopped just in time and Samara was adopted by the Morgans shortly thereafter.

Norman Bates (played by the late actor Anthony Perkins, who coincidentally shares my birthday) was a normal-seeming man who ran a motel service. However, something always went terribly wrong when attractive girls stayed the night...
Of course, Samara from 'The Ring' (2002) only wanted her mother. Or rather, she wanted A mother. This was further explained in the sequel, even though it seems that she should have hated her mother for what she did to her.
Just in case you haven't yet seen 'Psycho' (1960), make sure that you do because it truly is a classic. Don't get thrown off by the black-and-white screen (for those who don't already like these movies), this movie is a ten in just about everyone's book.

Aside from Samara's out-of-television deaths, suicide was the only other method in this movie. Anna Morgan committed suicide by jumping off the cliff. Richard Morgan committed suicide by electrocuting himself. All of the other characters who died were indeed killed by Samara.

Answer: Yes, the evil remained and even got unleashed.

The evil from Samara was definitely not vanquished, hence the sequel 'The Ring Two' (2005). It was mentioned by Aidan in the original that since Rachel opened the well and rescued her remains, the evil was unleashed to spread the curse even further. Samara was never stranded inside any television; she was the only one who could move to and from them as she pleased.
