Dr Leonard McCoy, nicknamed 'Bones', is the Chief Medical Officer on the USS Enterprise. In the movie McCoy and Kirk become friends while Cadets and McCoy ends up smuggling Kirk onto the USS Enterprise so he can join the fight.

Karl Urban was born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1972. Prior to his role in 'Star Trek' he played the character of Eomer in the second and third 'Lord of the Rings' movies.

Scotty is played by the English actor Simon Pegg. Pegg had to work on perfecting a Scottish accent in order to play the role as the character of Scotty is from Scotland. Pegg has also appeared in the UK sitcom 'Spaced' and the three movies known collectively as 'The Cornetto Trilogy'.

Hikaru Sulu is the Helmsman on the USS Enterprise and is played by the Korean-American actor John Cho. J.J Abrams, the movie's creator, was initially reluctant to cast an actor of Korean heritage to play a role originally played by an actor of Japanese-American heritage, however George Takei, who originated the role, gave the green light saying that the character of Sulu is representative of all Asians, not just the Japanese.

John Cho was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1972 before his family moved to the US in 1978. As well as his role in the 'Star Trek' movies he played the role of Harold Lee in the 'Harold & Kumar' series of movies.

The character of Pavel Chekov is Russian and he is the Navigator on the USS Enterprise as well as being the youngest crew member.
