Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of "Star Trek: Generations", the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B was launched. Who was its Captain?

Answer: John Harriman

When the doors to the bridge opened, all the assembled media were focussed on the retired legends that were Kirk, Chekov and Scotty. Captain Harriman introduced himself and commented that he remembered reading about Kirk's missions whilst he was at grade school.

2. The USS Enterprise-B in "Star Trek: Generations" left space dock for its publicity launch with a number of systems still needing to be installed, as well as having only a skeleton crew. On what day were these systems going to be installed, according to the captain?

Answer: Tuesday

Kirk suggested the tractor beam - it wouldn't be installed until Tuesday; Kirk suggested photon torpedoes - they wouldn't be installed until Tuesday; Chekov asked about medical staff - they wouldn't be arriving until Tuesday. That led to an improvised solution that led to Kirk's supposed death when the energy ribbon struck the ship.

3. What was the shape of the Borg ship that went back in time at the beginning of "Star Trek: First Contact"?

Answer: Sphere

The Enterprise-E fired on and destroyed the Borg sphere immediately upon entering the past, but the Borg managed to transport onto the Enterprise before that happened. Then, they began to assimilate the ship.

4. As the Phoenix was about to launch in "Star Trek: First Contact", Zephram Cochrane found a disc in his pocket. What was the music that came blaring out when he put it into the console?

Answer: "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf

Riker, La Forge and Cochrane sat in the Phoenix whilst Troi gave the final countdown. All of a sudden Cochrane realised he was missing something and didn't want to lift off. Just as Riker was about to abort the sequence, Cochrane located a yellow, octagonal disc and put it into the console. The strain of "Magic Carpet Ride" was clearly audible and nearly deafened Troi as the music came through her headset.

Question by Daddy19
5. At the end of "Star Trek: First Contact", Picard ordered the evacuation of the Enterprise-E. Where on Earth were the escape pods destined to land?

Answer: Gravett Island

The Borg were about to overrun the Enterprise-E. Picard initially wanted to stay and fight but Lily persuaded him it was a hopeless cause and likened his determination to Captain Ahab in "Moby Dick".

Gravett Island can be seen as the destination being programmed on one of the displays. After apologizing to Worf, Picard also said "See you on Gravett Island".

Gravett Islands does not exist. It was named for Jacques Gravett, who was an assistant to Ronald D. Moore, who wrote the story and screenplay.

Question by Daddy19
6. In "Star Trek: Insurrection", Lt. Curtis was the attaché to Admiral Dougherty.

Answer: True

Lt. Curtis was supervising the duck blind mission, which was covertly observing the Ba'ku. When Lt. Commander Data malfunctioned, she ordered him to stand down, an order that he disobeyed, revealing the previously cloaked observation station to the Ba'ku.

She identified herself and her position to Captain Picard when he beamed down to the planet with Counsellor Troi and Dr. Crusher to 'rescue' the 'hostages'.

Question by Daddy19
7. What was the region of space called in "Star Trek: Insurrection" that the Son'a and Ba'ku home planet was located?

Answer: The Briar Patch

The Briar Patch was a region of space that had many dangerous properties, including the remains of supernovae, metaphasic radiation, and false vacumm fluctuations. Any ships traveling in that sector had to travel below one third impulse power to avoid damage to their engines.

8. In "Star Trek: Insurrection", what embarrassing condition did Worf have to contend with on the Ba'ku world, as a result of the rejuvenating metaphasic particles from the planet's rings?

Answer: A gorch

A gorch is a large inflammation on the skin, similar to an Earth teen's acne, but on a much larger scale. Gorches are prevalent among Klingon youth as part of their hormonal development.

Other members of the crew also felt the effects of the particles; most notably Geordi, who regained the use of his eyes.

Question by reedy
9. In "Star Trek: Nemesis", what was the name of the Vice-Admiral, who gave Captain Picard and the Enterprise-E their orders to head to Romulus on a diplomatic mission?

Answer: Janeway

Captain Picard was in his ready room when he received the incoming communication from Starfleet Command. Kathryn Janeway was given command of USS Voyager in 2371 and its first mission was to locate a Maquis ship in the badlands near Deep Space Nine. These adventures were detailed in the television series "Star Trek: Voyager".

Some time between Voyager returning to Earth in 2378 and the events of "Star Trek: Nemesis" in 2379, Kathryn Janeway was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral.

Question by Daddy19
10. What song did the android B-4 begin to sing, at the end of "Star Trek: Nemesis", that hinted that Data's download into B-4's more primitive positronic brain had managed to retain some part of Data?

Answer: Blue Skies

Data sang Irving Berlin's "Blue Skies" at Will Riker and Deanna Troi's wedding at the beginning of the film. The connection between the two events made a nice open and closing bracket for the film.
