Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd told us it was 8:00 in this city. What's the name, what's the name?

Answer: Boise

"What's Your Name?" sings of an encounter with a girl of questionable age while the band is touring on the road. Skynyrd wanted to see her on the next year's swing through, but sadly that was never to be. Shortly after the album's release, a tragic plane crash happened that claimed the lives of six people associated with the band.
2. The Eagles (perhaps the best American rock group ever) had a huge hit album and song by the same name about an inn in this state. Can you name the state?

Answer: California

"Hotel California" is one of the most played and recognized rock hits worldwide. No classic rock collection is complete without it.
3. Vicki Lawrence (I'm told she was a successful comedic actress also) sang of a blackout in this state. Can you name the state?

Answer: Georgia

"The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" hit the charts in 1973. I wonder what ever happened to that "big beer bellied sheriff" who "grabbed his gun and said 'Why'd you do it?'".
4. There was a crew of six dozen plus one more, who I suspect must have been the captain, shipped in and out of this bay when Blues Image sang this early 70s hit. I guess the rain kept any one from expanding the crew. Can you name the city?

Answer: San Francisco

"Ride Captain Ride", released in 1970, sang of 73 men on some obscure sailing adventure I think I would have joined. I just get the feeling they are still out there on a great nautical odyssey.
5. Apparently, there is no precipitation in the southern part of this state, but there is a lot of talk of opportunity. I guess that's why this singer hopped on a 747 to get there. Too bad it didn't work out so well for the guy. Can you name the state?

Answer: California

Albert Hammond's "It Never Rains In Southern California" hit number five on the U.S. charts in 1972. This is one catchy tune.
6. Steve Miller stopped in this city between Tacoma and Atlanta in his big hit "Rock 'n Me". Can you name the city?

Answer: Philadelphia

Lots of U.S. locations mentioned in this 1976 classic from the Steve Miller Band including Phoenix, L.A. and Northern California, in addition to the ones mentioned above.
7. With car trouble, and out of his element, the last thing this guy (presumably Charlie Daniels) wanted to do on a Saturday night was fight three others at this roadside bar. Can you name the city and state where this bar was located?

Answer: Jackson, Mississippi

This was from the song "Uneasy Rider" which details the ordeal of a hippy type guy after his car breaks down in Jackson, Mississippi. It's quite a humorous song, and was probably even more humorous at the time of its 1973 release.
8. Commander Cody took his hot rod for a hair-raising drive out this L.A suburb late one night and ended up on the grapevine (I-5, just north of L.A.) racing a Caddy. Can you name this L.A. suburb?

Answer: San Pedro

"Hot Rod Lincoln" was originally recorded in 1950. It was re-released by Commander Cody along with his Lost Planet Airmen in 1971 and scored a number nine spot on the US Billboard charts of 1972. I like these songs that tell great stories like this and some of the others here.
9. This group, named after a city, found huge success in the 70s with their trademark type sound with hits singing of "Mary Anne walking away" and how they were "gonna hitch a ride". Can you name this band?

Answer: Boston

I think Boston had such a great and unique sound with absolutely fantastic hits like "Foreplay/Longtime", "Smokin'", "Amanda", "Piece Of Mind", "Don't Look Back" and my favorite from Boston, "More than a Feeling".
10. According to the song "Hitch a Ride" by Boston, in which city is "day is night"?

Answer: New York

This song is from Boston's first album in 1976. It was written by Tom Scholz. The original title was another geographic location, "San Francisco Day".
