Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song is this?

Answer: Dire, Dire Docks (Jolly Roger Bay)

This song is played in the stages "Jolly Roger Bay," "Dire, Dire Docks," and "The Secret Aquarium." The song changes slightly depending on whether Mario is in the water or not. While underwater, the strings track is faded in.
2. What song is this?

Answer: Snow Mountain (Cool Cool Mountain)

This song is played in the stages "Cool Cool Mountain" and "Snowman's Land." Like many snow-themed songs, it uses jingle bells to add a Christmas feel to the song.
3. What song is this?

Answer: Inside the Castle Walls (castle hub area)

This song is used on all floors of the castle, but not outside or in the courtyard (the entrance to "Big Boo's Haunt"). The same motif can be heard in "Ending Demo," the song played when Princess Peach is finally freed at the end of the game.
4. What minor-keyed song is this?

Answer: Koopa's Road (Bowser courses)

This song is played in the three Bowser stages ("Bowser in the Dark World," "Bowser in the Fire Sea," and "Bowser in the Sky"). This is not the music when fighting Bowser himself at the end of each of these stages.
5. What song is this?

Answer: Slider (Rainbow Ride)

This song is the main song in the stages "Tick Tock Clock" and "Rainbow Ride." It's also used in the "Tower of the Wing Cap," "Vanish Cap Under the Moat" (when not wearing their respective caps), "The Princess's Secret Slide," and the slide areas of "Cool, Cool Mountain" and "Tall, Tall Mountain."
6. What song is this?

Answer: Powerful Mario (Wing Cap)

Instead of being applied to individual areas, this song is played whenever Mario wears the Wing Cap, Vanish Cap, or rides a Koopa Shell. This music snippet is the melody line, which is quite slow compared to the rhythm line that opens the track.
7. What minor-keyed song is this?

Answer: Cave Dungeon (Hazy Maze Cave)

This song is played in the stages "Hazy Maze Cave," "Wet Dry World," and "Cavern of the Metal Cap" (when not wearing the Metal Cap). It's also heard in some interior spaces of "Shifting Sand Land," "Snowman's Land," and "Tiny-Huge Island." This song's melody is based off the "Underworld" track from the original "Super Mario Bros." game from ten years before "Super Mario 64."
8. What song is this?

Answer: Merry-Go-Round (Big Boo's Haunt)

This song is only heard in "Big Boo's Haunt," specifically down in the basement where there's a Merry-Go-Round on which Mario can defeat Boos for a Power Star. This song is the only one in this quiz not in common time (4/4), instead being in 3/4, which gives it a waltz feel.
9. What song is this?

Answer: Staff Roll (End Credits)

After Mario has defeated Bowser for the third time and freed Princess Peach, the credits roll while the camera zooms around all the stages Mario has visited. This uplifting track is played over the credits, lending a degree of catharsis after the game.
10. What song is this?

Answer: Main Theme (Bob-omb Battlefield)

According to the official "Super Mario 64 Soundtrack," this is the main theme for the game (which is separate from the "Title Theme"). This song is played in the stages "Bob-omb Battlefield" (the very first stage), "Whomp's Fortress," "Tall Tall Mountain," and "Tiny-Huge Island."
