Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the main hub in this game?

Answer: Peach's Castle

Delfino Plaza is the main hub in "Super Mario Sunshine" for the Nintendo Gamecube.
The Comet Observatory is in "Super Mario Galaxy" for the Nintendo Wii.
Starship Mario is in "Super Mario Galaxy 2", which is also for the Nintendo Wii.
2. How many times must you hit the eel in Jolly Roger Bay to kill him?

Answer: None

You can't kill the eel in Jolly Roger Bay, as this is not needed. In case you didn't know, he can kill you, so be sure to be careful around him.
3. There is a secret star level that you can access by jumping in the hole in the wall across from Rainbow Ride. What is the name of this level?

Answer: Wing Mario over the Rainbow

This level lets you use the wing cap to collect eight red coins. Many players struggle with this level as it can be very tricky.
4. Counting every single part of the level, how many stars can be found in Hazy Maze Cave?

Answer: Eight

Most people don't see it this way, but the Cavern of the Metal Cap is actually part of Hazy Maze Cave. Since every cap stage has a red-coin star, this adds up to a total of eight stars.
5. What are the representative colors of the caps?

Answer: Red, Green and Blue

Red is the Wing Cap, Green is the Metal Cap and Blue is the Vanish Cap. However, in the beta version of the game, there was also a yellow switch and box, which when used in game is automatically switched on active for some unknown reason.
6. How many regular stars (including 100-coin stars, but not the Castle's Secret Stars!) are in this game?

Answer: 105

There is a total of 120 stars in this game, and there are 15 secret stars. If you don't know there are 15 secret stars, you can just multiply 7 (since that is the star count in each level) and 15, which will give you a total of 105.
7. How many water levels are there (both regular and secret)?

Answer: Four

The water levels are: Jolly Roger Bay, Dire Dire Docks, Wet-Dry World and The Secret Aquarium. Most people don't count "The Secret Aquarium" as an actual level, since it's a Castle Secret Star, but it is in fact a water level.
8. According to Nintendo, who was meant to be in the game, but was removed in the end because of Hardware Limitations?

Answer: Luigi

Believe it or not, but Luigi was actually planned to be in the final game, and "Super Mario 64" was actually going to be a multiplayer game for a short time. When the makers were testing the Luigi feature, Mario and Luigi ran together on an empty field, and everything worked perfectly.

But due to hardware limitations, the game started bugging when more complex landforms were added, so the makers were faced with a choice: Go with simple landforms, or remove Luigi. So in the end, Luigi was scrapped.
9. According to the instruction manual, who is missing?

Answer: Peach and Toad

People who played the game know that the Toads are in the castle. However, the instruction manual states that both Princess Peach AND the Toads are missing. Also, if you talk to the Toad in the entrance hall of the castle, he tells you that he and the other Toads are trapped in the walls.
10. Who is on top of the castle?

Answer: Yoshi

After you collect 120 stars, the cannon outside the castle will open, allowing you to shoot to the top of the castle. There you will find Yoshi, who will give you a special message from the makers of the game and 100 lives.
