Answer: Deep Purple

Ronny James Dio took his last name from a mafia member named Johnny Dio. He was born Ronald James Padavona in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The first band he was in was a New York group calling themselves The Vegas Kings, later to become Ronnie and the Rumblers. In 1967 he formed the Electric Elves. After changing the name to simply Elf in 1969 the band became an opening act for Deep Purple. Ritchie Blackmore was impressed with Ronnie and invited him to join his newly formed band, Rainbow.
In 1979 Dio left Rainbow and replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath, releasing the "Heaven and Hell" album. In 1982 Dio and Vinny Appice left Black Sabbath to form Dio. The band would go on to record ten albums.
In 2006 Dio joined Black Sabbath members Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Vinny Appice to tour as Heaven and Hell. In 2008 they released their only album, "The Devil You Know".
Dio was also involved in recording tracks for many other artists and was the voice behind Queensryche's "Dr. X in Operation: Mindcrime II" (2006) album.
2. Which bass player has been a member of King Crimson, Asia and several other bands since beginning his career in the mid-sixties?

Answer: Greg Lake

In the mid-sixties Greg Lake was involved with The Shame and Shy Limbs before becoming a founding member of King Crimson. After working with King Crimson for about a year he left to form the trio of Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Lake's musical versatility resulted in laying tracks on bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and vocals as well as songwriting and production contributions.
After selling more than 30 million records in the seventies the band broke up and Greg was asked to join Asia in the early eighties before going on to do solo projects. In 2001 he did a tour with Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band and formed the Greg Lake Band in 2005.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer has reunited occasionally through the years, most recently at the High Voltage Festival in 2010.
Jack Bruce was a member of Cream as well as working with several other bands. Rick Huxley played bass in the Dave Clark Five and Roger Waters was known for his enduring work with Pink Floyd.

Answer: Ron Wood

Ron Wood began his musical career in 1964 with The Birds. He also co-wrote many of their singles. When they disbanded three years later he became a bass player with The Jeff Beck group and worked on two albums with the group.
When Steve Marriott left The Small Faces Ron joined that band featuring Rod Stewart on vocals. He also worked with The Creations and did session work for a variety of groups. One of the groups was The Rolling Stones who eventually invited him to be part of their lineup when Mick Taylor left.
Ronnie Lane was with the Small Faces from 1965 to 1969 and continued with Faces until 1973. Robert Tench counted The Jeff Beck group as one of the many bands he was with. Denny Laine was born Brian Frederick Arthur Hines and has worked with several bands including Wings, The Moody Blues and Ginger Baker's Air Force.

On November 18, 1950, Rudy Sarzo was born Rodolfo Maximiliano Sarzo Lavieille Grande Ruiz Payret y Chaumont in Havana, Cuba. He emigrated to the United States 11 years later. In 1981 he became a member of Ozzy Osbourne's band after Randy Rhoads suggested him as a bassist. Sarzo left the following year after Randy's death in a plane crash.
He joined Quiet Riot while they were recording "Metal Health" the same year and remained with the band until 1985. From 1987 to 1994 Sarzo was a member of Whitesnake. In In 2007 he replaced Richie Castellano in Blue Oyster Cult.
In 2006 Rudy Sarzo penned a book titled "Off The Rails", which focused on his affiliation with Ozzy Osbourne's band. He also has been active in the digital animation field.

The Wildflowers and The Roadrunners were bands that Paul was in before joining Free. Paul was capable of playing a number of instruments and began as a bass player then took over vocal duties for the bands. Members of the Roadrunners included Micky Moody who went on to join Whitesnake. Member Bruce Thomas became one of The Attractions backing Elvis Costello.

While Paul was with Free he and bassist Andy Fraser composed "All Right Now". When it was released in 1970 it became a Top Five single in both the UK and the US. "All Right Now" was recorded for Free's "Fire And Water" album. Paul has also worked with Queen, The Firm, The Law and the Paul Rodgers Band.

Before joining Kiss Eric worked with Black Sabbath from 1985 to 1989 and was also part of Badlands. When he joined Badlands he worked on their eponymous debut album but left to join Paul Stanley on Paul's solo tour in 1989.

He did some studio work for Kiss while Eric Carr was being treated for cancer and in 1991 he was officially welcomed into the fold of Kiss following the death of Eric Carr. Singer has also worked with Gary Moore, Brian May, E.S.P. and if you watch Olivia Newton-John's "Culture Shock" video you can see him on drums.

Dave Grohl played in several high school bands as a guitar player. He became self-taught on the drums while still in high school and to his surprise he passed an audition when Scream needed a drummer. He was initially reluctant to accept the offer because he was only 17.

He lied about his age, dropped out of high school and joined the band. During a 1990 tour a mutual friend arranged for Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic to see him play. Within a few months Scream disbanded and Grohl was invited to join Nirvana.

He has also worked with artists from Tony Iommi to Paul McCartney and was involved with recording the Beatle biopic, "Backbeat" (1994). The Replacements were from Minneapolis. Punk pioneers Bad Brains began in DC in 1977. Social Distortion formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California.

In 1987 Vivian joined Whitesnake for a year and was asked to join Def Leppard in 1992 to replace Steve Clark. In 2010 there were announcements that he and Scott Gorham would be involved with a reformation of Thin Lizzy.
"Take No Prisoners" was the compilation album that contained Sweet Savage's original version of "Killing Time". "Whiskey in the Jar" was a traditional Irish folk song done by Thin Lizzy in 1973. "Stone Dead Forever" was one of four Motorhead covers on Metallica's "Garage Inc" CD.

Cornell wrote their Grammy Award winning hits, "Black Hole Sun" (1994) and "Spoonman"(1994).
Ten years after Soundgarden was formed Cornell left to do solo projects and in 2000 he began a seven year stint with Audioslave.
He has also worked with Temple of the Dog and collaborated with such artists as Screaming Trees, Slash and Carlos Santana.

Chicken Shack was the band that propelled Daisley into the public eye. In 1977 he joined Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow for two years until he was replaced by former Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover. Upon leaving Rainbow he united with Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads to form a band originally called Blizzard of Oz that ultimately became a solo effort for Ozzy. Upon leaving Daisley joined a reunited version of Uriah Heep and has worked with a variety of artists including Gary Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Carmine Appice and many others. Elton John was a member of Bluesology before going solo in the early seventies. Alexis Korner and Cyril Davies formed Blues Incorporated. Steve Winwood's brother Muff was the bass player for the Spencer Davis Group.
