Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Your's was the kiss that awoke my heart/There lingers still, though we're far apart"

Answer: A Taste Of Honey

"A Taste Of Honey" was written by Bobby Scott/Ric Marlow. It was track five on side two of The Beatles' 1963 UK album "Please Please Me".

"A Taste Of Honey" was originally an instrumental track written for the 1960 Broadway version of a 1958 British play "A Taste of Honey", which was also made into the film of the same name in 1961.

Acker Bilk and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass had the biggest instrumental hit versions but the first vocal version was by Billy Dee Williams in 1961.
2. "Bright are the stars that shine/Dark is the sky"

Answer: And I Love Her

"And I Love Her" was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was track five on side one of The Beatles' 1964 UK album "A Hard Day's Night".

McCartney impressed himself with "And I Love Her" and John Lennon called it McCartney's first "Yesterday". John Lennon also claimed that he had come up with the lyrics "A love like ours/Could never die/As long as I/Have you near me" for the song. Paul McCartney claims that John Lennon helped with the middle eight but the song is his. Now then chaps, no quibbling!
3. "And now the time has come/And so, my love, I must go"

Answer: I'll Follow The Sun

"I'll Follow The Sun" was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was track five on side one of the Beatles' 1964 UK album "Beatles For Sale"

"I'll Follow The Sun" was written by a 16 year old Paul McCartney in the family home at 20 Forthlin Road in Allerton, Liverpool. The song only got onto the "Beatles For Sale" album because John Lennon and Paul McCartney did not have enough new songs for the album. It was a very fortunate decision as it is a great song.
4. "Last night is a night I will remember you by/When I think of things we did, it makes me wanna cry"

Answer: The Night Before

"The Night Before" waas written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was track two on side one of The Beatles' 1965 UK album "Help!".

"The Night Before" was written by Paul McCartney in his then girl friend Jane Asher's family apartment at 57 Wimpole Street, in London. John Lennon played a Hohner Pianet electric piano, which was the first time that the instrument was used on a Beatles' recording.
5. "Nobody in all the world can do what she can do/And so I'm telling you, 'This time you'd better stop'"

Answer: Another Girl

"Another Girl" was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was track five on side one of The Beatles' 1965 UK album "Help!".

Paul McCartney could not have been in better company to write a song, as the spirits of Winston Churchill, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway may have been in the atmosphere in the Villa Sebastian in Tunisia. He and his then girlfriend Jane Asher were on a ten-day holiday there, as guests of the British government.

On February 15, 1965, the day after Paul McCartney returned from Tunisia, The Beatles started recording the soundtrack of the group's second movie, "Help!". "Another Girl" was the second of three songs worked on that day, between "Ticket To Ride" and "I Need You".
6. "What can I do, what can I be/When I'm with you I want to stay there"

Answer: Got To Get You Into My Life

"Got To Get You Into My Life" was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was track six on side two of The Beatles' 1966 UK album "Revolver".

"Got To Get You Into My Life" was influenced by the Motown Sound and was written after Paul McCartney had seen Stevie Wonder perform at the Scotch of St James nightclub in London. It was the first song on which The Beatles had used a horn section.

A cover version by Cliff Bennett and The Rebel Rousers peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart in 1966. It was produced by Paul McCartney.
7. "I'm taking the time for a number of things/That weren't important yesterday"

Answer: Fixing A Hole

"Fixibg A Hole" was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was track five on side one of The Beatles' 1967 UK album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

The first recording session for "Fixing a Hole" was at Regent Sound Studios in London. Regent Sound was used because all three studios at EMI's Abbey Road Studios were unavailable that night. This was the first time that The Beatles had used a British studio other than Abbey Road, for an EMI/Parlophone recording.

Shortly before Paul McCartney was due to leave home for the studio, a man called and introduced himself as Jesus Christ. Paul allowed the man to accompany him to the studio, where he sat very quietly, then left. Paul never saw or spoke to him again. Very Spooky.
8. "Take a good look around you/Take a good look you're bound to see"

Answer: Martha My Dear

"Martha My Dear" was writtem by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was track one on side two of The Beatles 1968 UK double album "The Beatles" (The White Album).

"Martha My Dear" was almost a one Beatle show. Not only was it written by Paul McCartney, he supplied the vocals and played bass guitar, drums and piano. The only other Beatle on the record was George Harrison on electric guitar. Session musicians played the orchestral parts.

Contrary to popular belief only the song's title was inspired by Paul McCartney's old English sheepdog, Martha.
9. "But as she's getting ready to go/A knock comes on the door"

Answer: Maxwell's Silver Hammer

"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was track three on side one of The Beatles' 1969 UK album "Abbey Road".

At the time of writing the song, Paul McCartney had become interested in the writings of the experimental French author Alfred Jarry. This was reflected in "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" and is where the word "Pataphysical" came from.

The other Beatles were not big fans of the song. These are some of their remarks about it, "More of Paul's granny mu" (John Lennon), "My God, 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' was so fruity" (George Harrison), "It was the worst track we ever had to record, it went on for weeks" (Ringo Starr).
10. "All the girls around her say she's got it coming/But she gets it while she can"

Answer: Get Back

"Get Back" was written by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was number one for six weeks on the UK Singles Chart for The Beatles in 1969. It was number one for five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year.

"Get Back" was the only Beatles' single to credit another artist on the record label, as The Beatles with Billy Preston. It was the only Beatles' single to enter the UK Singles Chart at number one. It is one of the few examples of John Lennon featured on lead guitar. It was the first Beatles single to be released in the U.S.A. in true stereo.

The version of "Get Back" on The Beatles "Let It Be" album is different from the single. It contains chat from John & Paul at the start and the comment from the roof top concert by John, "I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we've passed the audition". I think they did.
