All of these movies have one thing in common. They were all written by, directed or somehow utilized Steve Hanft. Hanft is a good friend of Beck's so the line from the movie "Kill the Moonlight" was featured in the song. In response, Hanft directed the video for "Loser".

This song was originally recorded for a Bootsy Collins solo release, but Collins didn't particularly like the way the track sounded. Parliament keyboard player Bernie Worrell had been experimenting with sounds on his Moog synthesizer and he came up with a stacked bass tone that he really liked. When "Flash Light" was handed over to George Clinton, Worrell decided this would be the song he used his new bass sound on, creating an instant classic. The song was from one of the best named albums ever: "Funkentelechy Vs. the Placebo Syndrome".

Just six years later, Lynyrd Skynyrd had a tragedy of their own when a plane crash took the lives of members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines along with their manager Dean Kilpatrick.

John Lennon has openly admitted that he was trying to copy the Roy Orbison sound when he recorded the vocals for this tune.

Legend has it that when B.B. King was a radio personality in Memphis in the early 1950s, he would play the relatively obscure Roy Hawkins hit. He had a real love for the song and would sing the song in the studio over the recording. Unfortunately for Roy Hawkins, he never received any royalties for the B.B. King version of the song due to an error in the credits.

As a matter of fact, Hawkins had a very bad run of things in his life. Midway through his career, he lost use of one of his arms, a terrible thing for a piano player. Poor management and accounting left him penniless. Eventually he was forced into a homeless existence in the Oakland, CA area where he died alone and poor in 1973.

In their downtime, they laid down the basic tracks for the instrumental. When asked why they decided on the title "Green Onions", Booker T. said he thought that was the nastiest thing he could think of. That's the vibe the group was looking for in their recording, one nasty funk groove.
