Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "___side" by The Kooks

Answer: Sea

"Seaside" was the opening track of "Inside In / Inside Out", the debut album for The Kooks. The British band released the album in January 2006 and had great success, at one point reaching the second spot in the U.K. Albums OCC charts. "Seaside" is a calm and mellow song written by frontman Luke Pritchard and drummer Paul Garred.

The track set the stage for the rest of the album's songs, some of which were much more animated.
2. "Cold ___" by Major Lazer

Answer: Water

"Cold Water" was released as a single by Major Lazer in July 2016. The track featured Justin Bieber and MŲ in vocals. It was a collaboration written by several people, including Ed Sheeran and Diplo. "Cold Water" was also included at the beginning of "Major Lazer Essentials", a compilation album released in 2018.
3. "Cake by the ___" by DNCE

Answer: Ocean

DNCE is an American band founded by Joe Jonas, also part of the Jonas Brothers. They released their eponymous album in November 2016, which opened with a track also called "DNCE". Perhaps the most successful single in the album was "Cake by the Ocean", a catchy and rhythmical song full of double-entendres.

Indeed, Jonas explained that the idea came from two of the songwriters, who were Swedish, thinking that "cake by the ocean" was the right way of saying "sex on the beach". The song was commercially successful and even hit the number one position on the US Adult Top 40 Billboard charts at one point.

It was the first track of the EP "Swaay" and was also one of the first songs in "DNCE".
4. "Water ___" by Alec Benjamin

Answer: Fountain

Alec Benjamin is an American musician who began his career when he was still in college. He has collaborated with artists like Jon Bellion and Sista Prod. Benjamin's first studio album was "These Two Windows", which made it into the Billboard 200 charts at one point. Before that, he had released "Narrated for You", a mixtape produced by the Atlantic record label. One of the first songs in that mixtape was called "Water Fountain", which became one of the most popular in "Narrated for You".
5. "Hold Back the ___" by James Bay

Answer: River

"Hold Back the River" was one of the first tracks in "Chaos and the Calm", the debut studio album of English musician James Bay. The single did quite well in the charts, at one point making it to the top of the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles Billboard charts. That album also had several other hits that were played frequently on the radio, such as "Let It Go" and "If You Ever Want to Be in Love".
6. "___ of Jupiter (Tell Me)" by Train

Answer: Drops

Train released their second studio album, "Drops of Jupiter", in March 2001. The album's three singles were "Something More", "She's on Fire", and "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)". Arguably, the latter was the most successful track of the album, and probably one of Train's more famous songs overall.

The song won two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists. It also made the top ten of several charts all around the world.
7. "Slippery When ___" by The Commodores

Answer: Wet

"Slippery When Wet" was one of the first tracks of "Caught in the Act", the second studio album of the American band The Commodores, which was fronted by Lionel Richie. It was one of the most successful songs of the album and was released as a single a few months after the album. It also had a good chart performance, especially on the Hot Soul Singles Billboard charts.
8. "Between the ___" by Lifehouse ft. Natasha Bedingfield

Answer: Raindrops

"Between the Raindrops" was one of the opening songs, and the only single, from Lifehouse's sixth studio album "Almerķa". It is a beautiful duet about a couple describing how they would navigate hard times and still stay together through them. Frontman Jason Wade is joined on vocals by British singer Natasha Bedingfield.

Some of its more poignant lyrics include "Hold on and take a breath, I'll be here every step, walking between the raindrops with you." As a sidenote, this was once one of my favorite songs!
9. "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the ___" by Otis Redding

Answer: Bay

Otis Redding was a highly influential artist from Georgia, in the United States. Known as "The King of Soul", Redding served as an inspiration for other musicians like George Harrison, Etta James, and Aretha Franklin. After his tragic death in a plane crash in 1967, his album "The Dock of the Bay" was released in 1968.

The first track in the album was "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay", which was written by Redding and Steve Cropper. The song made it to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles charts.
10. "___" by Vance Joy

Answer: Riptide

"Riptide" was the breakout hit of Australian musician Vance Joy (whose real name is James Gabriel Keogh). Even though he obtained a law degree, he decided to pursue a career in music. His debut EP, "God Loves You When You're Dancing", kicked off with "Riptide" as one of its first songs.

The song was also one of the first ones on his debut studio album, "Dream Your Life Away". "Riptide" was hugely successful, making it to the top of several worldwide charts.
