Misheard Song Titles

We've all misheard lyrics, but my sister has a tendency to mishear titles. Can you work out how her memory has mangled these titles from the Beatles?

Here is my sister's summary of what she recalls about an album released in 1969 by the Beatles.

"My favourite album is called ' Road' - the picture on the cover shows them walking across the road. The first track, ' Together', features John as lead vocalist, and was also released as a single, with George's ' ' on the flip side. Paul seemed to be having fun playing a Moog Synthesiser in his song about a serial killer, 'Maxwell's Hammer', then managed to produce a raspy voice quality reminiscent of John's for 'Oh! '. Ringo's song for this album was 'Octopus's ', and the last song on the first side is 'I You (She's So '."

She doesn't remember the second side much better!

"I heard that George wrote 'Here Comes the ' while he was sitting in Eric Clapton's garden, and John wrote ' ' based on hearing Yoko Ono playing Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' on the piano. The famous medley that fills the rest of the second side includes 'You Give Your Money', 'Sun ', 'Mean Mr ', ' Pam', 'She Came in Through the Window', 'Golden ', ' That Weight' and 'The '. Then came the hidden track, 'Her '."

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The Beatles' eleventh (and last, sigh) studio album, 'Abbey Road', was recorded over a period of months in 1969, and released in September of that year. The cover showed them walking across a zebra crossing (pedestrian crossing) on Abbey Road, near the building where the recording studio was located. They were led by John, followed by Ringo, Paul and George. The story of the cover and its subsequent cultural impact is worthy of its own quiz, but this one is about the music.

'Come Together' and 'Something' (which many consider to be one of George Harrison's finest compositions) were released as a single in October, becoming yet another two-sided hit for the group. 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' was criticised by some for its lighthearted description of a series of brutal murders, while others felt that the upbeat feel of the song was a metaphor for coping with the darkest aspect of life. (Do you think they were over-thinking a bit of pop music?)

Apparently John felt he should have been the one to sing 'Oh! Darling', and on first listening some fans thought he had done so. Paul apparently put in a lot of effort to roughen up his voice for the song.

As had become the practice, Ringo was allocated a track on which to perform a song, and he chose one he had written himself, 'Octopus's Garden'. Actually, George collaborated on some of the musical aspects, as would be the case for some of Ringo's later songs, but he contended that it was absolutely Ringo's song. This was Ringo's second writing credit, following 'Don't Pass Me By' on the earlier 'White Album'. 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)' finished off the first side of the album.

'Here Comes the Sun' and 'Because' are the two independent songs on the second side of 'Abbey Road'. They are followed by a series of short songs and snippets which segue into each other, forming one larger piece: 'You Never Give Me Your Money', 'Sun King', 'Mean Mr. Mustard', Polythene Pam', 'She Came in Through the Bathroom Window' 'Golden Slumbers', 'Carry That Weight' and 'The End'. The final track, 'Her Majesty', had originally been planned to be part of the medley, between 'Mean Mr. Mustard' and Polythene Pam', but was removed to improve the musical flow. Rather than being discarded, it ended up inserted as a sort of afterthought, so that 'The End' wasn't actually the end.
