Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is NOT a function that belongs to the category of Logical functions?

Answer: MEDIAN

MEDIAN is a statistical function, used to get the middle value of a set.
2. MODE is classified as what type of function?

Answer: Statistical

MODE is a statistical function. It returns the most commonly occurring value in a set.
3. Which keyboard shortcut will do the opposite of what Ctrl Z does?

Answer: Ctrl Y

Ctrl Z is the Undo keyboard shortcut. Ctrl Y is the Redo keyboard shortcut, effectively reverting the previous Ctrl Z, but it can also be used to repeat a command (such as formatting).
4. Which of these functions does not exist?

Answer: RLOOKUP

Excel has a number of functions which allow you to search your data for specific values. LOOKUP searches for a piece of data in a row or column and returns a corresponding piece of data in another row or column. VLOOKUP searches for data vertically by columns. HLOOKUP searches for data horizontally by rows.
5. If you use the @ sign at the start of a function, like @SUM, it will cause an error

Answer: False

In Microsoft Excel, all formulas begin with the equals sign. An older spreadsheet application called Lotus123 used the @ symbol before the names of functions. To make it easier for users of Lotus123 to use Excel, this facility was left in and is still there today. If you start with the @ it will change it to the equals sign after you press Enter. Try it yourself and see.
6. In Microsoft Excel what does the F8 function key do?

Answer: Allows you to start selecting cells using the keyboard

If you press F8 and then use the arrow keys, you can start to select cells. It locks the start point at the cell you were at, like clicking from one cell to highlight with a mouse. This is handy if your mouse is not working properly. Pressing F8 again will stop the process.
7. Pressing Shift and Delete does the same as which of these keyboard shortcuts?

Answer: Ctrl X

Shift and Delete allows you to cut something in Excel, so is the same as Ctrl X. Unlike Ctrl X, however, it does not mean "Cut" in all Windows software - be particularly careful in Windows Explorer here (It does mean "delete and do not recycle" there)
8. In Microsoft Excel a Bubble is

Answer: A kind of chart

A bubble chart is a type of scatter chart that shows points on the chart area and indicates values by showing bubbles of different sizes.
9. If there is a time (without a date) in cell B9, what will the following formula do? =HOUR(B9)*60+MINUTE(B9)

Answer: Give the total amount of minutes the time represents

The formula will convert the time into a total of minutes. It multiples the hour by 60 and adds the amount of minutes. So if the time was 2 hours and 40 minutes, it was multiply the 2 by 60, giving 120 minutes and add 40 to give 160. There are 160 minutes in two hours and 40 minutes.
10. In Microsoft Excel a Slicer is used for doing what kind of activity?

Answer: Filtering data

A Slicer is a visual way of allowing you to filter data that you have in a regular table or a pivot table.
