Maggie decided that she wanted to be a doctor so she enrolled in an organic chemistry course at Pine Valley University. In her class was a student named Henry Chin, who was said to have been the smartest student in the class. Henry and Maggie began to date but they broke up when Henry cheated off one of Maggie's exams and Maggie got in trouble (Later, the professor revoked her penalty on Maggie).

The actor who originated the role of Henry Chin was Ivan Shaw. At the time of his hiring, Shaw was the only Asian American to have an acting contract on a daytime soap opera.

Tad became smitten with Lysistrata Schwartz, a therapist who had clients like Adam, Liza, and Greenlee. Tad and Lysistrata dated for a little bit but their relationship never went anywhere. Shortly after Tad and Lysistrata broke up, Lysistrata left town.

Lena and Bianca started to fall in love with each other but Lena told Bianca she planned on leaving town. Bianca stopped Lena at the airport and told her not to go. Lena and Bianca shared a kiss and this became the first same sex romantic kiss ever on daytime television.

The actress who originated the role of Lena, Olga Sosnovska, said about the kiss, "I am sorry...but there are things on this show that I find far more morally questionable. Women being raped on a regular basis; children dying; people being deceitful, thieving, murdering, cheating.

This is a pure love story; it's two grown women who obviously want this to happen. And for me, if it was a choice between kissing Eden and kissing some of the people I've had to do this kind of thing with on other jobs, then I'd choose kissing Eden any day."

One night, in May of 2003, Michael went to Erica's office and tried to rape her. Erica screamed for help and, about a minute afterwards, Kendall came along and knocked Michael out. Erica hugged Kendall and thanked her for saving her. About a month after this, Michael raped Bianca Montgomery.

Jack collapsed in his loft, one day, and was rushed to the hospital. He needed a blood transfusion to stay alive and Greenlee was a match. Greenlee's blood was used to save Jack's life. Shortly after this, it was revealed that Greenlee was actually Jack's biological daughter (For many years, Greenlee thought that Roger Smythe was her biological father).

McTavish, who head wrote the show from 1992-1995 and from 1997-1999, was rehired by ABC Daytime President, Brian Frons, in May of 2003 to write for "AMC" once again. Her work began to air on July 1st. In the eyes of many fans, McTavish's return in 2003 gave the damaged show a shot in the arm that it needed and made it a character driven show again.

Her first major story was Bianca's rape and, while controversial, it proved to be a well written story in the eyes of many fans. Thanks to McTavish's writing and storylines, "AMC" was voted by Soap Opera Digest magazine as the "Most Improved Soap" of 2003 in their annual Best and Worst issue.

The magazine stated that McTavish came back and centered the show around family, again, and provided some character driven stories that were missing from the show in the first half of 2003.

Some of the characters McTavish created on "AMC" were Maria Santos, Ryan Lavery, Kendall Hart, Noah Keefer, and Annie Novak.

Jack and Erica had been engaged for a couple of months and decided to finally get married. Myrtle walked Erica down the aisle but Greenlee interrupted the ceremony and told Jack that she was her biological daughter and Erica knew this and kept it from him. Anna decided that she needed to leave town due to how Pine Valley held some bad memories for her, primarily the death of her daughter, Leora. Derek Frye became the new Police Chief.

*In early 2003, "AMC" included a storyline in which the new cosmetics company, Fusion, would search for the Sexiest Man in America (Simone thought of the idea). The ones who entered the contest were real people across the country. The finalists were invited to a party in October of 2003 that would be a taped episode of the soap and the winner was announced.

The winner turned out to be a man from Saratoga, California. Saratoga is located in Santa Clara County, the county where San Jose is the county seat.
