Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the lead character in "Dot and Bubble"?

Answer: Lindy

Lindy Pepper-Bean is a self absorbed rich girl who literally spends most of her time in a social media bubble. Cooper and Natalie are her friends, while Penny is her mother.

Lindy was played by Callie Cooke. She has been acting in British television since 2016. Her credits include "Cheaters" (2022), "Wedding Season" (2022) and "Henpocalypse!" (2023). Callie is from Leicestershire. Huge props to Callie for taking a really thankless role of an obnoxious character and making you care about her.

Susan Twist makes yet another appearance, this time as Lindy's mother Penny. She is a victim of the monster attack on the home world. In this episode, both the Doctor and Ruby commented on seeing Twist before.
2. What is the name of the social media site that plays a big role in "Dot and Bubble"?

Answer: Finetime

Finetime is the name of the social media system and also seems to be the name of the community.

Users become so obsessed with the Dot and Bubble network that they find simple functions like walking around and going to the bathroom without the system difficult. Users also limit physical contact with others. Lindy said her hug with Ricky was her first hug.
3. What novelty song appears in "Dot and Bubble"?

Answer: Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

"Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" was first released by Brian Hyland in the summer of 1960. It was a #1 hit in the United States, and translations were #1 in France and Germany.

Lindy sings the song twice, first to block out the Doctor and later when she is nervous.

Given the plot, "Purple People Eater" might have been more appropriate.
4. What kind of animal did the monsters look like in "Dot and Bubble"?

Answer: Slugs

The monsters resembled enormous slugs. They were multi-armed, with large mouths and a carapace and brownish-black in color.

The Doctor ultimately determines that the slug monsters were generated by the AI system that runs the city. It grew fed up with the entitled youth of Finetime and decided to eliminate them -- systematically.
5. What was the last name of Ricky, the pop singer who rescued Lindy?

Answer: September

Ricky September is a pop star who appears on the street suddenly and manages to guide Lindy to safety in the tunnels underneath the city.

Lindy later throws Ricky under the bus when they are being attacked by the dot computer, revealing his last name is really Coombs. She escapes when the computer kills Ricky. Lindy compounds her sin by lying to Ruby and the Doctor about Ricky's fate.
6. What was the upper age limit for residents of the domed city?

Answer: 27

According to Lindy, the residents are between 17 and 27. They are the spoiled children of the home world's wealthy. It is never specified what planet the home world actually is.
7. How did the monsters target their victims in "Dot and Bubble"?

Answer: Alphabetical order

It takes him a while, but the Doctor figures out the slug monsters are eating people in alphabetical order by last name.

The monsters apparently started on the Home World, because when Ricky checks everybody there had been eaten by monsters.
8. Who is the last person we see eaten by the monsters in "Dot and Bubble"?

Answer: Suzie Pentecost

Suzie Pentecost gets eaten when Lindy is in the tunnels of Building Seven. Gothic Paul is eaten as he is trying to warn people about the she is gone.
monsters. We don't see Cooper get eaten, but it is implied
Hoochy Pie is alive at the end of the episode, sitting next to Lindy.
Eilidh Loan was Cooper, Niamh Lynch was Hoochy Pie and Pete McHale was Gothic
Paul. Ellie-Grace Cashin played Suzie.
9. How did the survivors leave the city in "Dot and Bubble"?

Answer: Boat

The Doctor discovers an underground river, and the survivors take a boat into the wilderness surrounding the domed city.

The last moments of "Dot and Bubble" are heart-wrenching. The Doctor begs the young people to come with him on the TARDIS, offering to take them to a new planet. The youth of Finetime regard the Doctor and Ruby as outsiders and reject his offer based on a strange idea of ideological purity.

The Doctor actually cries as he watches the young people sail off to what he fears will be their doom.
10. Who directed "Dot and Bubble"?

Answer: Dylan Holmes Williams

Dylan Holmes Williams directed. He also directed "73 Yards" (2024). Williams began directing in 2015. He is probably best known for his short film "The Devil's Harmony" (2019).

Russell T Davies is back as show runner after his first run in 2005-2010. He returned "Doctor Who" to television after an 18 year absence.

Max Boast had the somewhat embarrassing role of Dr. Pee, the Finetime App that reminded users when they had to urinate. Boast has been acting since 2017 and his credits include "Higher Education" and "Bridgerton".

Jamie Cairney was the cinematographer. He also worked on "The Devil's Chord" (2024). Cairney directed quite a few episodes of "Sex Education," Ncuti Gatwa's previous show.
