Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Sutekh use to spread death and destruction?

Answer: Dust

Sutekh spread the dust of death. It affected the Earth first, then spread to destroy life across the universe. Sutekh weaponized the TARDIS to spread death.

The people dissolving into dust had echoes of "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018) when Thanos snapped half of reality out of existence. Sutekh was even more ambitious.

This season ender had shadows of "Journey's End" (2008) and "The Big Bang" (2010), both stories where the villain attempted to destroy all of reality.
2. Who was the only member of UNIT to survive Sutekh's initial attack?

Answer: Melanie

Melanie and the Doctor manage to evade the clouds of death on a scooter. They make it back to UNIT and the Time Window. The Doctor, Rose, and Mel manage to flee Sutekh in a makeshift TARDIS.

Sutekh catches up with Mel in 2046. The god transports Rose and the Doctor to UNIT in 2024.

Kate Stewart had a rather poignant end, with the hope that "there will be birds again."
3. What former Doctor do we see on the memory screen?

Answer: Fourth

Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor, can be seen in scenes from "Pyramids of Mars" (1975), the first story to feature Sutekh. He is seen with Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) twice.

Tom Baker was the Doctor from 1974 to 1981. He was in some of the most iconic episodes of "Doctor Who" such as "Genesis of the Daleks" (1974), "City of Death" (1976) and the Key to Time series (1978-79).
4. What did the woman in the tent give to the Doctor?

Answer: Spoon

The Doctor traveled to one of the few places that still had life and found a strange woman. Her husband was Tal and her daughter was Brindle.

The Doctor asked for metal, and she gave him a spoon. He used it to repair the video screen from the Time Window.

Spoons have had an interesting history in "Doctor Who." The Third Doctor played the spoons, Twelve used a spoon to fight Robin Hood, and Thirteen built her sonic screwdriver from spoons.
5. What year did the Doctor and Ruby travel to in order to access the DNA database?

Answer: 2046

In a nod to "73 Yards" (2024) the Doctor remembered that Roger ap Gwilliam created a mandatory national DNA database when he was Prime Minister. They travel to 2046 to track down Ruby's birth mother.

Sutekh interferes, but once they defeat the evil god they are able to use the information to find Ruby's mother.
6. How did the Doctor defeat Sutekh in "Empire of Death" (2024)?

Answer: Dragged him into the time vortex

The Doctor chained Sutekh to the TARDIS and dragged him through the time vortex. This reversed all of Sutekh's destruction and brought everyone back to life.

The Doctor then cut Sutekh loose and the forces of the vortex tore him apart. Which does not mean he couldn't return some day. Timey Wimey.
7. What was the name of Ruby's birth mother?

Answer: Louise Miller

Louise Allison Miller, age 35 in 2024. She was 15 when she was pregnant with Ruby. Louise went back to school and became a nurse.

Louise was played by Faye McKeever. A native of Manchester, she has been acting since 2006. She is probably best known as Linda on "Trolled" (2011-18).
8. Where did Ruby meet her birth mother?

Answer: Coffee shop

Ruby meets Louise at a coffee shop. She orders a cappuccino and waits for the barista to call her "Ruby." She then introduced herself.

Louise says she wanted to go find Ruby, but was afraid Ruby would not forgive her for giving her up.
9. Who had the last lines in "Empire of Death" (2024)?

Answer: Mrs Flood

Mrs Flood makes a rather ominous prediction about the future of the Doctor, saying it will "end in terror."

We are still uncertain about who Mrs Flood is, how she had knowledge of the TARDIS, her connection to Sutekh, and how she knows the Doctor's future.

Anita Dobson plays Mrs Flood. She has been acting since the early 1980s, and was on "EastEnders". The most interesting thing about her may be that her husband is legendary rock guitarist Brian May.
10. Who wrote the music score for "Empire of Death" (2024)?

Answer: Murray Gold

Murray Gold returned to "Doctor Who" after a six-year absence when Russell Davies came back as showrunner. Gold has written many beautiful tunes for the show since 2005. He has collaborated with Davies on many projects since 2000.

Russell Davies was showrunner from 2005 to 2010, and returned in 2023.

Jamie Donoughue directed both "Empire of Death" and "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" (2024). He has been directing in British television since 2016.

Gabriel Woolf was the original voice of Sutekh in "Pyramids of Mars" (1975) and he returned after almost five decades to voice the Egyptian villain. Woolf was also the voice of The Beast in "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit" (2006).
