Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where and when are The Doctor and Ruby in "Rogue"?

Answer: Regency era England

"Rogue" (2024) is set at an English manor in 1813. The Doctor and Ruby try and attend a ball and wind up fighting alien shapeshifters.

In 1813, George III was alive, but mad as a hatter. His son was for all intents the monarch. In other news, Britain won the Peninsula Wars, the Lord Nelson monument was erected in Trafalgar Square and Jane Austen published "Pride and Prejudice."
2. What was the name of the shapeshifters in "Rogue"?

Answer: Childers

The shapeshifters were bird-like beings named Childer, according to Rogue. He was a bounty hunter who had been chasing them

The Doctor determined that the Childers were basically cos-players who took over their victims to live through them vicariously.

Their certain victims are Lord Galpin, Lord Barton, the housekeeper, the Duchess of Pemberton, Emily Beckett and the vicar.

"Rogue" had some shadows of "The Family of Blood" with a group of aliens chasing the Doctor.
3. What cast member from "Hamilton" played Rogue?

Answer: Jonathan Groff

Jonathan Groff played the charming Rogue, a bounty hunter from either the distant future or a highly advanced technological planet, maybe both.

Even though Groff was only in "Hamilton" for a few minutes as King George III, he had great songs such as "You'll be Back", making him a huge hit with audiences.

Jonathan Groff had his first big break on Broadway in "Spring Awakening" (2006). Since then, he has been a regular on Broadway, as well as working in films and television. He was received several Tony nominations.

"Hamilton" debuted on Broadway in August 2015. It has been a massive success, with over 3000 performances. It was nominated for sixteen Tony awards and won eleven, including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.

Miranda, who wrote the play, starred as Hamilton. Diggs played Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, while Odem was Aaron Burr.
4. What shape was the laser trap?

Answer: Triangle

Rogue's trap used three interconnected lasers to create an energy grid, so it was shaped like a triangle. The trap was used twice -- the first time when Rogue trapped the Doctor, but released him once he realized he was a Time Lord.

The second time, the Doctor used the triangle to trap the Childers, and inadvertently trapped Ruby. Rogue grabbed the trigger from the Doctor and pushed Ruby out of the trap before sending the group to a random alternate dimension.
5. What song was playing in Rogue's spaceship?

Answer: Can't Get You Out of My Head

The Doctor used his sonic to turn on the sound system of the spaceship, which began playing "Can't Get You out of My Head" (2001) by Kylie Minogue. Rogue seemed a little embarrassed by the song.

The song may been an in-joke, because Minogue played Astrid Peth in the 2007 Christmas special "Voyage of the Damned".

"Can't Get You Out of my Head" (2001) is notable for its "la la la" hook. The song went triple platinum in the UK and reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100

The other choices are also from Minogue's 2001 album "Fever".
6. What type of psychic accessory was Ruby wearing in "Rogue"?

Answer: Earrings

Ruby had on sonic earrings, which the Doctor claimed made her a better dancer. They seemed to work, since Ruby was holding her own on the dance floor.

The earrings came in handy when Ruby was fighting the Childer who had taken over Emily. It allowed her to escape and overpower the shapeshifter. The fight was choreographed to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" (2008).
7. Susan Twist makes yet another "Doctor Who" appearance in "Rogue". Where do we see her?

Answer: Portrait of the Duke's mother

Susan Twist appears yet again, this time in a small cameo as a portrait of the Duke's mother. The Duchess points out how creepy the eyes are.

Susan Twist has had small roles in every episode this season. The teaser for "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" (2024) suggested there may be some answers as to the nature of her character.
8. Where do the Doctor and Rogue kiss?

Answer: The Ballroom

They met on the balcony. They almost kissed on the TARDIS. They finally kissed in the ballroom right before Rogue sacrificed himself to save the Earth (and Ruby).

The first kiss between two men on British television was on the soap opera ''East Enders" in 1989.

It is not surprising the first same sex kiss on "Doctor Who" happened under Russell Davies. He has done lots of pioneering work on LGBTQ representation with shows such as "Queer as Folk" (2000-2005) and "It's A Sin" (2021). Davies is openly gay, and was in a civil partnership with Andrew Smith (2012-18).

Ncuti Gatwa is the first openly queer actor to play the Doctor. Gatwa played a gay character on "Sexual Education" but only spoke openly about his sexuality shortly after becoming the Fifteenth Doctor.

Jonathan Groff came out as gay in 2009. He was worried it would harm his career, but he seems to be doing pretty well.
9. What souvenir of Rogue was the Doctor left with?

Answer: Ring

During their "scandalous" display on the dance floor, the Doctor demanded a sign from Rogue, so the bounty hunter proposed, handing the Doctor a ring.

At the end of "Rogue" the Doctor looks wistfully at the ring as he realizes that Rogue is the latest on a long list of people he has lost over the years. Again, there are shadows of Astrid Peth, as she kissed the Tenth Doctor shortly before sacrificing herself to save the Earth.
10. Who wrote the "Doctor Who" episode "Rogue"?

Answer: Kate Herron and Briony Redmond

Herron and Redmond wrote "Rogue". Kate Herron is probably best known fior directing "Loki" (2021). She has been working as a director in television since 2017.

Briony Redmond has written several short films, but "Rogue" is her first work in television. When she is not writing, Redmond is also an actress. She and Herron previously worked on "Run Toward Them" (2012) and "Smear" (2017).

Russell T Davies returned as show runner in 2023. He returned "Doctor Who" to television in 2005 after a 16 year absence. He did write most of the Season 14 episodes.

Indira Varma is the Swiss-Indian actress who played the Duchess of Pemberton. She is known to "Doctor Who" fans for her work on "Torchwood" (2006).

Camilla Aiko played Emily Beckett. This was her third job on television after appearing in "Lee" (2023) and "Fifteen-Love" (2023).

Shout out to Jack Murphy, who did the choreography. Fantastic dancing sequences.
