Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the technology company in "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" (2024)?

Answer: Triad

As the Doctor points out, S TRIAD is an anagram for TARDIS. This is not news to the staff at UNIT, who are quite clever. Melanie Bush has infiltrated Triad to keep an eye on the CEO, Susan Triad.

As the Doctor arrives, Triad is two hours away from releasing free software globally. This same plot device was used in "Kingsman: The Secret Service" (2014) and "Terminator: Genisys" (2015).
2. Who does the Doctor think Susan, the tech company CEO, might be?

Answer: His granddaughter Susan

Susan Foreman (Carole Ann Ford) travelled with the First Doctor and was in the first episode in November 1963. The last we saw of Susan, she was on Earth in the year 2160.

There were several red herrings in "Legend of Ruby Sunday" about Susan Triad being Susan Foreman. UNIT's science advisor said there was a 96 percent chance -- it's that 4 percent that will kill you.

There is a poignant moment when the Doctor tells Kate Stewart that he has avoided meeting Susan because he brings disaster in his wake. There is also a Timey-Wimey moment where the Doctor says he has a granddaughter but not children. This contradicts past canon in which the Doctor has said he was a father.
3. Who is the new addition at UNIT in "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" (2024)?

Answer: Morris Gibbons

Morris Gibbons, age 13, is the new scientific advisor at UNIT. Morris is a child prodigy. He was played by Lenny Rush, who voiced Eric in "Space Babies" (2024). Rush started acting when he was 7, and was 14 when he did "Legend of Ruby Sunday".

Kate Stewart is the head of UNIT. Melanie, a companion of the Sixth Doctor, is an agent for UNIT. Rose Noble is the daughter of Donna, and works for UNIT, but complained she didn't really do much.
4. What historic event does Kate Stewart mention when they are at the Time Window?

Answer: Signing of the Declaration of Independence

Kate talks about the limitations of the Time Window, noting that when they saw the signing of the Declaration, the only clear image was the quill used to sign the document. It was white.

The Doctor actually laughed when he first saw the Time Window. Using a video tape from Ruby, they were able to create a fairly accurate representation of Ruby Road on Christmas Eve 2004.
5. Ruby was finally able to see her birth mother in the Time Window.

Answer: False

Despite the videotape enhancements, Ruby was unable to get a clear view of her birth mother's face.

Ruby did a shout out to the events of "The Church on Ruby Road" (2023), even mentioning Davina McCall. The Time Window scenes recreated the Doctor's appearance on Ruby Road on Christmas Eve.
6. What was the name of the UNIT member who was killed in the Time Window?

Answer: Winston Chidozie

Winston Chidozie was the colonel in charge of the Time Window. He was turned into a pile of sand by an evil force that surrounded the TARDIS.

Chidozie was played by Tachia Newall. He has been acting since 2010 and his credits include "Dune" (2021).
7. Who gets to say the iconic line "Doctor Who?" in "The Legend of Ruby Sunday"?

Answer: Susan Triad

The Doctor meets Susan Triad shortly before she is set to address the United Nations. He introduces himself as the Doctor and Susan Twist enters the select group of actors who were able to deliver the line "Doctor Who?"

The question dates to "An Unearthly Child" (1963) when Ian Chesterton asked the First Doctor. The question was actually a major plot point during Matt Smith's tenure.
8. What song is playing when Susan enters the auditorium to speak to the UN?

Answer: Roam

"Roam" was a hit for the B-52s in December 1989. It reached #3 on the US Billboard charts and was in the top 10 in Canada, New Zealand and Ireland. I suppose it is appropriate given they are about to unveil a global computer network. Two of the other choices are top 10 songs by the B-52s.

Given what was about to happen, "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads may have been a better choice.
9. What past nemesis of the Doctor returned at the end of "The Legend of Ruby Sunday"?

Answer: Sutekh

The letters in "Susan Technology" morph into "Sue Tech" and then Sutekh. The Fourth Doctor confronted Sutekh in "The Pyramids of Mars" (1975). The Osiran had incredible powers, including mind control. Sutekh was one of the most dangerous enemies the Doctor ever faced.

In a genius piece of casting, Gabriel Woolf, who voiced Sutekh in 1975, returned almost fifty years later for "The Legend of Ruby Sunday". Woolf was also the voice of The Beast in the Tenth Doctor adventure "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit" (2006). Sutekh has been compared to the Egyptian god Set and may also be the basis for Satan.

The last time we saw Sutekh, the Fourth Doctor used a time tunnel to send him into the distant future. While Sutekh has appeared in prose and audio "Doctor Who" stories since 1976, this marks the character's return to television.

My theory: when the Fourth Doctor sent Sutekh through the time tunnel, it may have fractured him across time -- similar to Scaroth in "City of Death" (1976) or Clara Oswald when she became the Impossible Girl. Bring fractured in time could explain how Susan appears in so many places across so many times.

When the Doctor and Ruby entered the Time Window it is possible they may have intersected Sutekh's timeline and inadvertently brought him back to Earth.
10. Who directed "The Legend of Ruby Sunday"?

Answer: Jamie Donoughue

Jamie Donoughue directed "The Legend of Ruby Sunday". He has been working as a television director since 2017. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his short film "Shok" (2015); it won quite a few film festival awards.

Russell T Davies wrote this episode and most of the rest of Season 14. He returned "Doctor Who" to television in 2005. This is his second time as showrunner.

Aidan Cook was in the V-Link costume. V-Link is the UNIT computer. It could not have been comfortable to be in that metal suit.

Genesis Lynea was Harriet Arbinger, the new archivist at UNIT. She was the "Harbinger" who helped to bring Sutekh into UNIT headquarters.
