The second winner of Best Situation Comedy was "Make Room For Daddy" in 1955. The show was later titled "The Danny Thomas Show". It beat out "I Love Lucy" which was the first winner of this Emmy Award in 1954.
2. The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Carl Reiner produced show won its first Emmy in 1963 for its second season. The legendary sit-com starred Mary Tyler Moore, Rose Marie, and of course Mr. Van Dyke. In 1963 it beat out "Beverly Hillbillies" and "McHale's Navy".
3. All In The Family
We jump to 1971 for the controversial sit-com "All In Family" starring Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton. "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Odd Couple" were also nominated in "All In The Family's" debut season.
4. M*A*S*H
In 1974 the sit-com based off the 1970 took home the Emmy for Best Comedy. Alan Alda as "Hawkeye" Pierce was the lead in the medical sit-com set during the Korean War.
5. Cheers
The debut season of "Cheers" in 1983 took home the Emmy. The show was set in a Boston tavern and ran for eleven seasons on NBC. 'Newhart" and "Taxi" were runner-ups in 1983. "Cheers" was nominated all eleven years for the Emmy Award.
6. Seinfeld
Season 4 of "Seinfeld" took home the Emmy in 1993. It was the only year the sit-com won the award. In 1993, the other nominees included "Cheers", "Murphy Brown", and "Home Improvement".
7. Sex & The City
Almost every series that won the Best Comedy Emmy was on NBC, CBS, or ABC for the first fifty years. In 2001, "Sex & The City" on HBO was the surprise winner of the Emmy. The eighth season of "Frasier" and "Malcolm In The Middle" were among the nominees that year.
8. The Office
In 2006 the second season of "The Office" won the Emmy against "Arrested Development", "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Two and a Half Men". "The Office" led by Steve Carell was a U.S. version of the popular UK sit-com started by Ricky Gervais.
9. Modern Family
"Modern Family" took home the first of the awards for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2010. The series led by Ed O'Neill and Sofia Vergara took home the Emmy Award five times in their eleven season run.
10. Fleabag
In 2018, "Fleabag" was not nominated for the Emmy but took home the prize in 2019. By this year, the award had seven finalists including "Schitt's Creek", "The Good Place", and "Veep". "Fleabag" starred Phoebe Waller-Bridge and was based on her one-woman show in the U.K.
