Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This season of the race commenced at which iconic Los Angeles landmark?

Answer: The Hollywood Sign

This season, bringing the race back to its full form after the COVID-19 pandemic, had thirteen teams (the most in the U.S. franchise's history) head to the start line at the Hollywood sign for this thirty-fifth race around the globe to celebrate the iconic sign's hundredth birthday.

At a lookout below Griffith Park, the pairs of teams overlooked the city of Los Angeles and were given the go-ahead to start racing with the chance for a million dollars. Teams were told that there would be no non-elimination legs this season and, along the way they'd come across the Express Pass and, for the second time in the U.S. version of the show, the mandatory U-Turn Vote.

Their first clue would be waiting for them inside a car waiting down the hillside. And with that, they were off.
2. The first Road Block, completed in Los Angeles, involved which of these activities?

Answer: Tightrope walk

Before heading to the airport, teams were given a clue sending them to the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles and, there, they could park and grab a number at a clue box out front. This turned out to be the race's first Road Block, a task putting one team member to the test crossing between upper floors on a narrow tightrope.

On the second balcony, the participant would also need to solve a word scramble leading them to their next destination. If they could provide the answer to "Amazing Race 34" winners Derek and Claire, the answer being 'CITY OF ANGELS', they would get be able to head to the airport and fly from one City of Angels (L.A.) to another (Bangkok, Thailand). The first six teams to the airport would catch the first flight; the last seven would catch the later one.

Greg, Joe, Andrea, Chelsea, Todd, Rob, Morgan, Victor, Liam, Anna Leigh, Joel, Sheridan, and Iliana were selected for this task.
3. Which team was able to claim an Express Pass by eating fried insects in Bangkok (in Leg 1)?

Answer: Morgan and Lena

Racers crossed the Pacific and headed to Bangkok, landing in their second City of Angels fourteen hours later (passing through Taipei). Upon arriving they would be able to find their first major destination-- the giant statue of Buddha at Wat Paknam. In addition to locating their clue box, teams would be able to pursue the Express Pass if they wanted to take that risk. There, at Wat Paknam, they could find a marked vendor serving a plate full of fried insects. If they could down the entire dish each, they could claim the pass. Morgan and Lena took the chance, downed the unorthodox meal, and won it for themselves.

Whether or not teams pursued the Express Pass, they could continue racing by longtail boat and tuk-tuk to Wat Suthat to find their next clue box.
4. Which Detour option, faced by teams in Bangkok in Leg 1, turned out to be the more popular option?

Answer: 'Spa Day'

At Wat Suthat, racer's found their first Detour of the race, allowing them to choose one of two tasks: 'Sword Play' or 'Spa Day'.

In 'Sword Play', racers proceeded to Saranrom Park to learn a thirty-second martial arts routine using traditional swords known as darbs, and then perform it for their instructor to get their next clue. 'Spa Day', on the other hand, would take the racers somewhere a bit more definitive. Heading to the Putthinan Thai Massage Parlor, teams needed to endure a thirty minute Thai massage. If they had to stop, they would need to start over.

Jocelyn and Victor, Rob and Corey, Morgan and Lena, Todd and Ashlie, Greg and John, Joel and Garrett, Steve and Anna Leigh, Robbin and Chelsea, Andrea and Malaina, Elizabeth and Iliana, and Liam and Yeremi chose 'Spa Day' while only Joe and Ian and Alexandra and Sheridan completed 'Sword Play'.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race upon checking in at the first Pit Stop at Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Worawihan?

Answer: Alexandra and Sheridan

Completing the Detour allowed teams to collect their last clue in Leg 1, and with this they could race by taxi to the first Pit Stop, Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Worawihan, in the district of Mueang Nonthaburi north of Bangkok. Married couple Jocelyn and Victor ended up being the first team to land on the mat, winning them a prize package from Expedia allowing them to take a specialized trip to Patagonia and Southern Chile.

At the back of the pack, the second flight fought to avoid elimination and it was Elizabeth and Iliana, who stuck it out at the massage parlor, who squeezed into the penultimate spot. Unfortunately, it meant that Alexandra and Sheridan would land on the mat last, finding themselves eliminated in thirteenth place.
6. Racers who completed the Road Block in Leg 2 waded into a Thai field to collect which of these plants?

Answer: Lotus

Commencing Leg 2 in the morning, racers opened their clues at Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Worawihan and continued into the outlying towns of the greater Bangkok area. For their first to-do, teams needed to hop into taxis and head to the rural town of Nakhon Pathom to find Wat Suwannaram. At this temple, racers would locate their Road Block clue, this time asking for a racer who has a green thumb.

For this Road Block, teams had to head to a nearby farm and join the lotus flower farmers in their daily tasks. Trudging into the murky waters there, they had to collect twenty lotus bulbs and leaves and follow a bundling example to present their finds to the local farm owner. If they did this correctly, they'd receive their next clue.
7. Visiting Wat Rai Khing in Thailand in Leg 2, teams had to locate a marked elephant. Was this a live elephant?

Answer: No

Racers finished their Road Blocks, reunited with their teammates, and travelled by taxi to Wat Rai Khing. Upon arriving, the teams needed to locate the marked elephant on the temple grounds, discovering that it was not a real animal, but a massive statue. Finding the right elephant, they would be directed to place a coin into a slot on the elephant's side and then, for good luck, travel in circles underneath the statue to receive their next clue, a Detour allowing for a choice between 'Stock Up' or 'Scoop Up'.
8. A shopping list was presented to teams completing the 'Stock Up' Detour task in Leg 2. Which team did not search the Thai market and complete this task?

Answer: Joe and Ian

For 'Stock Up', teams needed to pick up a shopping list and then proceed to the Don Wai Market in Sam Phran. There, using the phonetic pronunciation of their ingredients and provided quantities, they needed to purchase the correct items and trade them in to a local restaurant for their next clue. Jocelyn and Victor, Todd and Ashlie, Andrea and Malaina, and Elizabeth and Iliana completed this task. All other teams completed 'Scoop Up' instead.
9. In Leg 2, what fruit did racers need to collect for the 'Scoop Up' Detour task in Thailand?

Answer: Pomelo

For the 'Scoop Up' Detour task, racers made their way to Ton Som O Farm 3 to collect pomelos. To do this, however, teams needed to hop into a boat, collect them from the nearby creeks and rivers, and then deliver them to the farmer. Only when five of the farmers' large baskets were filled would they get their next clue. Rob and Corey, Greg and John, Morgan and Lena, Steve and Anna Leigh, Joe and Ian, Joel and Garrett, Liam and Yeremi, and Robbin and Chelsea completed this task.
10. Which team was eliminated in Thailand at the end of Leg 2?

Answer: Elizabeth and Iliana

Completion of the Detour allowed teams to obtain a clue that would send them to the race's second Pit Stop, Suan Sampran, a beautiful estate on the banks of the Tha Chin River. Jocelyn and Victor managed to retain their lead throughout the entire leg and, leveraging their language skills, landed on the Pit Stop mat to receive the prize of $2,000 USD each.

Though Elizabeth and Iliana managed to get out of the Road Block earlier than other teams, a bad taxi to the Detour and discord during the task at the market led the pair to slip back into last. They were eliminated in twelfth place.
