Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Heading to Vietnam in Leg 3, racers had to make their way to what southernly city?

Answer: Can Tho

Racers needed to make their way out of Thailand in Leg 3, departing from Bangkok bound for the city of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, five hundred miles to the east. Upon landing, racers needed to locate a bus taking them a lengthy distance into the country to the city of Can Tho. Racers would finally be at their destination when they reached a clue waiting for them at the Ninh Kieu Wharf on the Bassac River, deep in the Mekong Delta.

Racers were required to book their flights to Ho Chi Minh via a travel agent and, unfortunately, many on the earlier flight were delayed, leading to a significant shift in standings.
2. Riding on the Mekong Delta, racers had to deliver baskets of fruit. Which was not amongst them?

Answer: Lychee

Once teams located the Ninh Kieu Wharf they could get a ticket and depart the following morning on an early boat bound for the Cai Rang Floating Market. Hopping into a sampan, the racers then needed to deliver baskets of fruit through the market to marked boats. Three marked boats awaited teams out in the market, and each fruit delivered needed to be different based on their requests-- baskets of dragonfruits, baskets of tangerines, and baskets of golden melons. Each delivery would give the teams a third of a photograph, and when put together they'd get their next destination from the image provided.

To avoid having to deliver to all these locations, Morgan and Lena utilized their Express Pass and skipped the task.
3. The 'Paper' Detour task, encountered by teams in Leg 3, had them making rice paper. Which team did not complete the challenge?

Answer: Morgan and Lena

When teams passed through the floating market task, they were able to direct their sampan drivers to the boat ramp in the photo provided and find their Detour clue.

In 'Paper', teams needed to locate Sau Hoai, a rice noodle factory in Can Tho, where they would have to watch a demonstration and learn how to make rice paper using the proper ingredients and a steamer. Once racers prepared twelve passable sheets of rice paper, they would receive their next clue.

Joel and Garrett, Steve and Anna Leigh, Rob and Corey, Todd and Ashlie, Jocelyn and Victor, Robbin and Chelsea, Greg and John, and Andrea and Malaina completed this task.
4. In the 'Plastic' Detour task in Leg 3, racers had to apply vinyl to which of these?

Answer: Auto parts

In the 'Plastic' side of the Detour, racers were told to make their way by taxi to Thanh Van in Can Tho where they could join manufacturers in helping build a motorbike. For this task, they needed to cut, apply, heat, and smooth out a vinyl application on any single body part of a two-wheeler in an auto shop. Although only one part, this would be a tough task for anyone not getting the process down easily.

Morgan and Lena, Joe and Ian, and Liam and Yeremi elected to complete this task.
5. Which team was last to hit the Pit Stop in Leg 3, surviving with a 'keep on racing' instruction?

Answer: Liam and Yeremi

Teams who finished their Detour task were given a clue and told to race by taxi to their next Pit Stop, the Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery, the largest such building in the city of Can Tho. Steve and Anna Leigh managed to take first place, leaving the Detour in first place after a strong leg. The catch was that, despite their lengthy leg behind them, Phil gave them another clue and told them to keep on racing directly into Leg 4.

Although Liam and Yeremi placed last arriving at the Pit Stop, the continued leg spared them from elimination on this occasion. They ripped their clue open and headed out.
6. How many teams completed the 'Stand' Detour task, replicating the stall at a fish market in Vietnam in Leg 4?

Answer: Six

Leaving the third Pit Stop immediately, teams headed by taxi to the Cafe Tu Diec and received their next clue from the barista behind the counter. Discovering their Detour, they had to make a choice.

The first of these choices was 'Stand', allowing them to head to Cho Tan An, a Can Tho fish market. There, racers needed to replicate a local market stall, presenting several different types of fish for sale, but doing so from scratch and hand-sorting their fresh wares, brought from a nearby distributor. If their stall matched the original vendor's, they'd get their clue.

Steve and Anna Leigh, Robbin and Chelsea, Morgan and Lena, Greg and John, Andrea and Malaina, and Jocelyn and Victor completed this task.
7. Racers completing the 'Deliver' Detour option in Leg 4 had to carry four of which items through the busy streets of Vietnam?

Answer: Mattresses

Racers who didn't want to get their hands dirty (or slimy) with the 'Stand' Detour option could instead take the chance with 'Deliver', heading instead to a marked truck in front of the Nha Hang Riverside for some physical labour. From there, racers had to transport four mattresses, each weighing sixty-six pounds, three hundred yards through the congested streets of Can Tho to a specific room high up in the West Hotel to get their next clue. Joel and Garrett, Rob and Corey, Todd and Ashlie, Joe and Ian, and Liam and Yeremi took this exhausting task.
8. Racers who visited the Ong Pagoda (in Leg 4) needed to give which of these before receiving their next clue?

Answer: A wish

Racers who completed their Detours were handed their next clue and told to race by any mode to Can Tho's Ong Pagoda. At this specific pagoda, they would be required to make a wish of their choosing, writing it on a card obtained from the front counter, and handing it to the caretaker to be hung up in the temple. Once it was hanged with the others, they would get their next clue, sending them by taxi to Hung King Temple.
9. All racers playing 'matchmaker' for their Road Block in Leg 4 had to match a photograph to which of these at Hung King Temple?

Answer: A tile

Arriving at Hung King Temple, racers were presented with their Road Block clue for the fourth leg, requiring that one racer from each pair head into the temple with a single photograph to play 'matchmaker'. With the photo, they had to locate the single tile, from amongst thousands, depicted in their image.

While most of the tiles on the grounds were identical, only eleven-- one for each team-- was one-of-a-kind. Finding it would be their task. Anna Leigh, Joel, Todd, Corey, Chelsea, Joe, John, Lena, Liam, Victor, and Andrea were chosen for this challenge.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Vietnam at the end of Leg 4?

Answer: Jocelyn and Victor

As soon as racers finished the Road Block in Leg 4 they would be allowed to proceed on foot to Phil and the mat, both waiting nearby on the Hung King Temple grounds. Robbin and Chelsea, arriving at the Road Block and finding the proper tile in short order, overtook all other teams and landed on the mat in first place.

The pair won a prize package from Expedia sending them to Madrid, Spain. At the back of the pack, Morgan and Lena managed to overcome the last place spot while early race frontrunners Jocelyn and Victor received the surprise elimination, going home in tenth place.
