Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Racers spent most of Leg 7 in Cologne, Germany, but they flew into which other city?

Answer: Frankfurt

Teams left Asia in this seventh leg of the race and picked up tickets taking them deep into Europe, four thousand miles northwest to the city of Frankfurt, Germany. For this majority self-drive leg of the race, teams had to navigate through the countryside to the town of Kaub. There, they'd drive themselves onto a ferry that would take them up the Rhine River to their next clue.

While on the ferry, teams would need to take the time to locate a man onboard who would trade them a bag of coins for five Euros of their pocket change. They'd need those coins for the tasks ahead.
2. The Road Block teams encountered at Rheinstein Castle in Leg 7 had teams trading how many coins for a clue?

Answer: Fifteen

Once their ferry reached their destination, teams could drive themselves to Rheinstein Castle and locate their Road Block, a task that asked for a team member 'ready for a change'. This task needed racers with math-mindedness. Using the witten coins that they'd traded for on the ferry, racers needed to ascend into the castle and pay off a robber baron, converting their coins using a provided formula. Once the debt of fifteen coins was paid off, they could head up into the castle to get their next clue and rappel down its side to reunite with their partner below.

Todd, Garrett, Anna Leigh, Morgan, John, Corey, Chelsea, and Andrea headed into this task.

After this, racers could proceed to the city of Cologne, finding their next task waiting at Gürzenich Köln.
3. Racers opening the love locks on Hohenzollernbrücke had to use a 4-digit code corresponding to which of these?

Answer: A number found on a cologne bottle

Reaching Gürzenich Köln, racers joined the carnival, following local tradition by navigating a husar bicycle through the facilities while one racer tossed roses at a crowd of onlookers. If they could do this through a short obstacle course, they could head out on foot to Hohenzollernbrücke, straddling the Rhine.

It was at the bridge there that racers found a second Road Block, and this meant that the racer who didn't complete the first had to complete the second. For this unexpected task, racers needed to locate a love lock, marked with a red-and-yellow race marking, amongst hundreds of thousands on the bridge. Once located, they needed to use a four digit code-- the number on the first cologne made in Cologne (4711)-- to unlock it and trade it for their next clue.
4. Which team was the only one to finish the 'Just For Kicks' Detour task in Leg 7?

Answer: Rob and Corey

Teams had two distinct choices for their Detour in Cologne. In 'Just For Kicks', racers got sporty, heading to the Deutsches Sport & Olympia Museum to play soccer darts. With only four shots, they needed to get a combined score of sixty-six to get their next clue.

In 'Matter of Taste', teams had to work very different muscles, heading to Hafenterrasse to taste-test mustard. After sampling nine mustards, racers needed to identify them by their provided German names. Only one team completed 'Just For Kicks'.
5. Which team was eliminated in Germany in Leg 7, unable to reach the Pit Stop?

Answer: Andrea and Malaina

Racers wrapping up their Detours could get their final clue and proceed to the race's seventh Pit Stop at Das Schokoladenmuseum, a massive chocolate factory on the banks of the Rhine right next to the Detour locations. Greg and John took their second win in a row, translating their successes in Jaipur to the prize in Germany. This time around, they won $4,000 USD each.

All other teams checked into the Pit Stop to find their placements throughout the next few hours, but Andrea and Malaina fell so far behind that they were eliminated as soon as they arrived in Cologne. They were unable to complete the second Road Block and the Detour before Phil located them.
6. Although Leg 8 sent teams to Ljubljana, Slovenia, they were given flights to which other city first?

Answer: Vienna

Leaving the Pit Stop at the Schokoladenmuseum in Cologne, racers had to head southeast to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana in the eighth leg. To get there, however, they had options. All teams were given flights from Cologne to Vienna and then train tickets that would get them into Ljubljana, but they were under no real obligation to use them if they found better alternatives.

When they arrived, however, they had to find a marked car in Congress Square and drive themselves out to the town of Lesce, where they would find their next clue.
7. The code teams needed to crack their glider Road Block in Leg 8 involved which of these?

Answer: A year

Reaching Lesce-Bled Sports Airfield, racers were able to open their Road Block clue for Leg 8 and select someone who wanted a birds-eye view. In this task, racers took a seat in a glider and headed into the two thousand feet up into the skies above Lake Bled, searching the waters there for four numbers found in canoes on its surface.

After landing, racers had to arrange the numbers to provide the Slovenian year of independence-- 1991. That would be the key to their next clue, and if they got it wrong, they would have to fly again. Garrett, Rob, Ashlie, John, Robbin, Lena, and Steve completed this challenge.
8. Which team collected an Express Pass in Leg 8?

Answer: Rob and Corey

Immediately after the Road Block, all racers needed to drive to the Planica Nordic Centre and grab pairs of cross-country skis. Heading into the indoor ski facility, they had to get themselves to the top to get their Detour clue.

In Planica, teams could opt to pursue an Express Pass by climbing the eleven-hundred stairs at one of the world's largest ski jumps-- Letalnica Bratov Gorisek. Rob and Corey managed to arrive first and complete the task, ziplining back to ground level with their newfound reward on the world's steepest zipline. The Express Pass would be valid until the end of Leg 10.
9. The 'House Work' Detour in Leg 8 had teams making a house for which of these in rural Slovenia?

Answer: Bees

Teams' Detours had them completing one of two manual labour tasks in rural Slovenia, getting them to choose either 'Field Work' or 'House Work'. In 'Field Work', racers had to collect enough hay from a local field to fill a hay rack to the farmer's requirements while in 'House Work', racers needed to visit a different farm to build an apiary to house local bees. Only Joel and Garrett and Steve and Anna Leigh completed the 'House Work' Detour option.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race at the end of Leg 8, checking into the Pit Stop at the Dragon Bridge in last?

Answer: Morgan and Lena

To close out Leg 8, racers had to drive back into Ljubljana to find what was once Yugoslavia's tallest building, the Neboticnik skyscraper, and climb its spiral staircase 230ft to the top to find one last clue. At the top they would be directed to the Pit Stop waiting for them at the Dragon Bridge; they could head there on foot.

Greg and John overtook Todd and Ashlie in a footrace to the mat, winning their third consecutive leg of the race. This time, the pair won a trip for two to Namibia courtesy of Expedia. After getting lost on the way back into Ljubljana, Morgan and Lena were overtaken by a cynical Steve and Anna Leigh and were eliminated from the race in seventh place overall.
