Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Charming, California

Answer: Sons of Anarchy

"Sons of Anarchy" ran on the FX Network 2008-2014. The small town of Charming was located in the San Joaquin Valley of Northern California, near the San Francisco Bay Area city of Oakland and the inland city of Stockton.
2. Llanview, Pennsylvania

Answer: One Life to Live

Popularly known as "OLTL", this daytime soap opera lived on the ABC Network from 1968 to 2012, and therafter as a web series. Llanview is presented as a suburb of Philadelphia, and the use of the Welsh "Llan", meaning "sacred place", points to areas of Welsh influence northwest of that city.
3. Sandicot, New York

Answer: Billions

"Billions" began on the Showtime Network in 2016, featuring the struggles of money and power based in New York City. The small, financially struggling town of Sandicot in Upstate New York featured in the series in season 2. In the story, Sandicot is located near the larger town of Binghamton, making it likely based on the real town of Endicott that has had similar struggles caused by casino gambling licenses.
4. Stars Hollow, Connecticut

Answer: Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls began on The WB network in 2000 and ended on the CW Network in 2007. The story of single mom Lorelei Gilmore (played by Lauren Graham) and daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) played against the backdrop of the small, quirky town of Stars Hollow. Rory attended school in Hartford, CT, about a 30 minute drive from Stars Hollow.

The fictional town is filled with quaint New England locations and characters and has a backstory to the American Revolution.
5. The Village

Answer: The Prisoner

Although filmed in the UK with UK actors, "The Prisoner" was shown and popular in Canada, the US, and the UK in the late 1960s. The unnamed village was populated with unnamed and cryptically-named characters where ex-spies were detained and interrogated. The village of Portmeirion in North Wales was used to film the exterior shots of the popular but short - only 17 episodes - program.
6. Pawnee, Indiana

Answer: Parks and Recreation

"Parks and Rec" was a leader of NBC's "Comedy Night Done Right" lineup on Thursdays from 2009-2015. Pawnee is in South Central Indiana, and figures prominently in each episode since the main characters are employees of the local government. Pawnee is advertised, on actual NBC merchandise, as "First in Friendship, Fourth in Obesity".
7. Sunnydale, California

Answer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Running from 1997 to 2003, "Buffy" was a popular show with critics and viewers, showcasing Sarah Michelle Gellar in the title role. Sunnydale was presented as a suburban community, and the high school in the Los Angeles suburb of Torrance was used as a central location in the show.
8. Point Place, Wisconsin

Answer: That '70s Show

The period teen comedy follows a group of friends in a boring midwestern town. Hopefully, the last lyrics of the opening song "Hello, Wisconsin!" helped you choose the right answer. Point Pleasant is apparently near Sheboygan, about halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay. In one episode, a character says that "Sheboygan's trash blows into Point Pleasant".
9. Cicely, Alaska

Answer: Northern Exposure

"Northern Exposure" appeared on the CBS Network 1990-1995. Actor Rob Morrow played a new doctor that is assigned to a remote Alaskan town to repay his medical school costs. Cicely is thought to be based on the town of Talkeetna, located in a more remote area north of the big city of Anchorage.
10. Orson, Indiana

Answer: The Middle

"The Middle" appeared on the ABC Network from 2009-2018, following the comedic struggles of a middle-class family, the Hecks: mom Frankie, dad Mike, and kids Axl, Sue, and Brick. Orson is set near Indianapolis, and likely based on the real town of Jasper in southwest Indiana.
