Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What magazine did Will suggest one of the interns read?

Answer: Republican Vogue

She questioned that the rich should be taxed more than the poor, and Will replied bitingly, "Was there a spread on this in Republican Vogue?"
2. How did Josh tell the First Lady to identify the guy who won?

Answer: he's dancing

Mrs. Bartlet came to complain that her agenda was always getting beaten down in meetings. She was specifically irritated that she'd lost $12 million earmarked for vaccine education, emphasizing that she had really wanted it. Josh's arrogant reply: "Me, too.

But at the end of a prizefight you look at the guy who's dancing around and that's who won." Josh then encouraged Mrs. Bartlet to put a professional face on her agenda if she wanted it to be taken seriously.
3. At Sam's press conference on the beach, what did Toby tell him to say in response to any question?

Answer: "Orange County's beachfront is a national treasure."

Sam fretted that he'd look like a fool, but Toby reminded him that the clip would likely be used only as B-reel, without sound. He reasoned that if they did decide to use audio, Sam might as well be on message.
4. In the Situation Room, Admiral Fitzwallace explained Taskforce Dawn Sky, the operation designed to rescue the hostages. What about the operation did President Bartlet question?

Answer: the need for a wet team

Bartlet wondered why they'd need a CIA wet team when they weren't near water. Fitz clarified for him that "they call it a wet team because it's bloody." Bartlet replied with some chagrin, "I had to ask."
5. What did Will object to having Elsie call him?

Answer: Willy

Will was upset because Elsie had told the interns he was a "very sweet hardass" and then became more incensed when she called him "Willy".
6. Elsie broke the window between Will's and Toby's offices.

Answer: False

Actually, Will did. They had a new window in place because Will had broken the last one, but when he touched it, it feel in towards Toby's office and broke. Apparently, they hadn't gotten a chance to actually install the glass pane.
7. Who started a little fire at Mrs. Bartlet's event in honor of the Bartlet women?

Answer: Amy

She knocked over a candle reaching for her glass and the tablecloth caught fire.
8. When Mrs. Bartlet saw Alana approaching her after her speech and asked Amy to "save" her, what did she mean?

Answer: walk her across the room

Instead, Amy jumped in and told Alana off. After seeing Amy in action, it was clear from Abbey's expression that she had found in her the perfect Chief of Staff to pitt against Josh. Because it's simply so wonderful, here's the exchange in full:
Abbey: "Oh, god. Alana Watterman's about to zatz me on fair pay. Save me, would you?"
Amy: "You want me to?"
Abbey: "Please."
(Alana arrives.)
Alana: "Abbey, you were charming!"
Abbey: "Good to see you, Alana."
Alana: "I- I'm not sure if you saw my op-ed this morning, but I -"
Abbey: "I did."
Amy: "Me too."
Alana: "Well, what I wanted to say -"
Amy: "I thought it was terrific, if that counts for anything."
Alana: "Thank you. Obviously what I -"
Amy: "And courageous."
Alana: "I'm sorry?"
Amy: "I say, I thought it was courageous. Because, the leadership wanted fair pay done quietly so it didn't become necessary for the moderate Republicans to make it a symbol of left-wing over-reaching, as if the President doesn't have enough problems. But you said, screw the leadership, and I think that's courageous. Ironically, I have a hunch the First Lady could have been brought on board fair pay if she'd been lobbied more, what's the word, more, you know, professionally, rather than being embarrassed in this morning's newspaper, Alana."
Alana: "Lovely remarks today, Ma'am. That's what I came over to say."
(Alana leaves and Amy turns to Abbey's shocked and intrigued expression.)
Amy: "You said save me."
Abbey: "I meant walk me to the other side of the room or something."
Amy: "Oh! Oh, sorry."
9. What did the mother of the hostage mean when she said to Leo, "So this is what it looks like from where you are"?

Answer: Bartlet people don't serve in the military.

Leo respectfully told her that he'd flown during Vietnam and she apologized.
10. As C.J. was putting on makeup, what did Toby get out of his shoes?

Answer: sand

Toby complained that it was still there from six hours prior and C.J. started singing, "Sand in my shoes, sand from Havana."
11. Who did C.J. compare Mrs. Bartlet to?

Answer: Marie Antoinette

The First Lady wanted to talk about nutrition assistance at a black tie event, which C.J. concluded would make her look like the woman who said, "Let them eat cake!"
12. In reference to "Charles Darwinomics" and "trickle down travesties", how did Sam describe the language?

Answer: flamethrower

Toby asked, "You don't want to be a flamethrower?" Sam assured him, "I didn't say that."
13. Did they rescue the hostages?

Answer: Yes

They did, but while they were getting them, Red Haven, the base in Ghana where the Deltas practiced, was bombed. The terrorist retaliation caused 17 fatalities.
14. When Will told the interns that he was tabling the work on the tax plan remarks because of the bombing, the interns stayed and started working on their own. Confused, Will came back and told Elsie, "I don't think they understood. They can go home." How did Elsie respond?

Answer: "They understood."

At this point, perhaps, Will started to understand that the interns were dedicated to the work.
15. In the bar, Toby assured Sam he was going to lose the election: "You're going to lose and you're going to lose huge. They're gonna throw rocks at you next week, and I wanted to be standing next to you when they did..." What word did Sam repeat as he took in this news?

Answer: Really

He said the word three times as he let himself accept the truth that he was going to lose the election. Then he and Toby hugged and he said, "I'm just gettin' creamed. I'm just gettin' worked." After drinking their shots, Sam and Toby left the bar together to face Sam's next event.
