Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Right after taking the elevator up to the first bonfire, the player should make sure to keep a sharp eye out for loot. What covenant item can be found in the back corner of this elevator room?

Answer: Petrified Egg

The Petrified Egg is needed for Magerold of Lanafir to allow the player to join the Dragon Remnants covenant. Magerold of Lanafir can be found at the Iron Keep, just after the bridge leading to the front entrance, to the right as soon as you enter.
2. As it happens, the Emerald Herald is waiting for the player just beside the Dragon Aerie's first bonfire. How did she beat the player here?

Answer: This is never revealed

This happens a few different times, the Emerald Herald inexplicably beating the player to a few important locations. The game never even attempts to explain how she manages to do this.
3. The Emerald Herald has an actual name, and she reveals it to the player at Dragon Aerie. What is her name?

Answer: Shanalotte

The name itself has no particular importance on the game's narrative as a whole. It is nice, however, to be able to actually put a name instead of a title to a character, at least for me personally.
4. Finally, before parting ways with the player, the Emerald Herald will give the player a very useful item, then implore them to "not resist, the dragon awaits you." What item does the player receive from her?

Answer: Aged Feather

The Aged Feather essentially acts as an infinite Homeward Bone, and using it will return the player to the last bonfire they've interacted with. Like Homeward Bones, the Homeward Miracle and the Darksign, it cannot be used if other players, cooperative or hostile, are in the player's world actively.
5. The Dragon Aerie is exclusive amongst the "Dark Souls" trilogy for having one thing that can make it extremely easy to make it to the end with. What is that one thing?

Answer: A shortcut the player doesn't need to open

Right from the first bonfire, simply climbing a ladder will reveal a large skylift. Taking this skylift can allow the player to skip over the entire area in mere seconds. This is good for speedrunning the game, or for if the player simply does not want to go through the entire area.
6. The boss of Aldia's Keep makes quite a few returns in this map, appearing as a mini boss a total of four times. Who is this?

Answer: Guardian Dragon

The Guardian Dragon is thankfully extremely easy to defeat as a mini boss here. Like in its boss fight, it is very slow, weak to everything other than Fire, and has an astonishingly low healthpool given that it's a dragon. While it may be a "Guardian" dragon, the only thing it seems to be able to guard is 90% of the player's screen and camera while it fights.
7. Who is the boss of the Dragon Aerie?

Answer: Nobody

There is simply no boss to this area whatsoever. This also means you cannot summon a friend for help when going through it, making it logical that From Software included a way to entirely skip the area if the player would like.
8. When arriving at the Dragon Shrine's first bonfire, a "friendly" NPC awaits the player, and will interrupt them temporarily as they try to rest at this bonfire. Who is this?

Answer: Aldia

Like before, the bonfire will explode when interacted with, and Aldia will abruptly appear where the bonfire once was. Once he is finished speaking with the player, just as before, the bonfire will be available for standard use.
9. At first glance, there are roughly fifty enemies including two NPC invaders in a very small area. However, almost none of these enemies will actually fight the player, only a small amount will. This will change for the drastically worse, however, if the player does what?

Answer: Attempts to flee from combat

The Dragonfang soldiers are plentiful, but will stand idly by unless the player attacks them. They seem to be content watching the player fight one Drakekeeper at a time, almost in gladiator-esque entertainment combat. If the player attempts to ignore and run past even a single Drakekeeper, every Dragonfang in the vicinity will become hostile and chase the player down.
10. Before reaching the area boss, the player will encounter an NPC invader. Dragonfang Villard is interpreted in the lore as the mightiest warrior in the entire Dragon Shrine. Which of the following is true about him?

Answer: He has no poise

In an amusing recycle of the Aslatiel of Mirrah dilemma, Dragonfang Villard has absolutely zero poise whatsoever and will be stunned by anything the player does. Small, fast weapons such as the Rapier can simply spam him from full health to death without any real brainpower or effort.
11. At the very end of the area, the player will finally meet the Ancient Dragon. The Ancient Dragon is huge, powerful and, as its title implies, very, very old. What else is it capable of doing that other dragons cannot?

Answer: Speaking

The Ancient Dragon is not innately hostile. When approached, it will talk to the player about their journey up to this point. Like Aldia, it will question the player's motives and it will subtly commend them on the lengths they've had to go through just to reach the Dragon Shrine.
12. After interacting with the Ancient Dragon it will, strangely enough, gift the player with an extremely important item. What item is this?

Answer: Ashen Mist Heart

The Ashen Mist Heart is needed to finish the game. It allows the player to access Memory areas, which is helpful for both mandatory content and optional content, as well as seeing use in the game's DLC.
13. As it happens, the Ancient Dragon is indeed the boss of the Dragon Shrine. Which of the following is true about it?

Answer: It has the most HP out of all bosses

This is a rough fight, as the Ancient Dragon has stats which outclass every other boss in the game by a long shot. Its attacks will not one shot by default, as a player with high Vigor and ideally good armor can take at least one hit, but probably not two.

The saving grace is that its moveset is extremely bland and its AI is highly exploitable. Staying underneath the dragon's midsection will prompt its AI to stay grounded and simply try to stomp on the player, rather than take flight and incinerate the entire boss area with its deadly fire breath.

The latter is what complicates this fight a lot, as the player can easily get hit twice for instant death by this fire attack, as it covers almost the entire boss room.
14. Weirdly enough, the Ancient Dragon doesn't drop its own soul, but rather a Soul of a Giant when slain. The Soul of the Ancient Dragon does exist and can easily be obtained, but it is found in a completely different other boss room strangely enough. Which boss room houses the Ancient Dragon's boss soul?

Answer: The Duke's Dear Freya

There is a large corpse of a dragon, with its head just reaching the boss room. When first approached, the player cannot do anything with it. After obtaining the Ashen Mist Heart, however, the player can interact with the dragon head to enter the Memory of a Dragon. Here, the Soul of an Ancient Dragon can be found.
15. The Curved Dragon Greatsword, obtained from the Ancient Dragon's soul, is a weapon with basically unmatched stats and scaling. It specifically gains an S scaling in what?

Answer: Dexterity

It also gets a B in Strength, making this an immaculate option for quality builds, as both stats scale excellently.
