Dark Souls 2 Trivia Questions

1. The key item needed to access this DLC is the Frozen Flower. Fortunately, this key item is found very close to the Shrine of Winter, where the DLC is accessed. Where is the Frozen Flower?

From Quiz
"Dark Souls 2" - Crown of the Ivory King

Answer: Drangleic Castle

Right after the first bonfire in Drangleic Castle, the player needs to enter the room full of statues, where the Ruin Sentinels spawn. From there, entering the door on the far bottom right and simply proceeding forward for about ten seconds will allow the player to find the Frozen Flower on a corpse in the middle of the room.

2. To access the DLC in the first place, the player needs the Heavy Iron Key. Where is this found?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Crown of the Iron King

Answer: Forest of Fallen Giants

Inside of a small cave home to three Flame Salamanders is where the key can be found. The first time the player passes the cave, they will be incredibly underleveled and will likely struggle mightily to retrieve it. Given that the key does nothing but unlock an end game DLC, it's reasonable for the enemies guarding it to be tough.

3. In order to access this DLC, the player must locate an item. What item is needed to unlock this DLC?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Crown of the Sunken King

Answer: Dragon Talon

The Dragon Talon will be taken out of the player's inventory after every playthrough, mandating that the player gets it each time they want to go to this DLC in a new playthrough.

4. The Throne of Want is located within an area the player has already been to. Where do they need to backtrack to access it?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Throne of Want

Answer: Drangleic Castle

Located practically right next to the King's Gate bonfire is, well, a King's Ring gate. Coming here with the King's Ring equipped will cause the gate to open, allowing access to the Throne of Want.

5. Right after taking the elevator up to the first bonfire, the player should make sure to keep a sharp eye out for loot. What covenant item can be found in the back corner of this elevator room?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Dragon Aerie & Dragon Shrine

Answer: Petrified Egg

The Petrified Egg is needed for Magerold of Lanafir to allow the player to join the Dragon Remnants covenant. Magerold of Lanafir can be found at the Iron Keep, just after the bridge leading to the front entrance, to the right as soon as you enter.

6. Right off the bat at the very first bonfire, there is a small group of enemies nearby with a surprisingly high drop rate on an otherwise hard to get resource. What do Archdrakes have a 10% chance of dropping on defeat?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Shrine of Amana

Answer: Twinkling Titanite

Up to this point in the game, this resource has been extremely precious. Here, however, that changes entirely and it becomes quite easy to quickly accumulate a lot of Twinkling Titanite with some time spent farming these enemies. The 10% chance can be mitigated by rings or equipment, as well.

7. There is a lot of lava both in and outside of the Iron Keep. How much damage will it deal if the player steps in it?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - The Iron Keep

Answer: Infinite

Falling into the lava is an instant kill regardless of gear or stats. Magma, on the other hand, can be survived but also doesn't show up outside of the building nor does it show up much at all inside.

8. As soon as the player arrives to Earthen Peak, they can find an important NPC resting atop a small hill which oversees most of the area ahead of the player. Who is this?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Harvest Valley/Earthen Peak

Answer: Chloanne, Stone Trader

Upon exhausting her dialogue, Chloanne will return to Majula. Thankfully, this has no prerequisites apart from simply going through all of Chloanne's dialogue. Initially, she will only sell a few infusion stones, a Bonfire Ascetic and a couple of very gimmicky spells, but her selection will increase as the player progresses through the game.

9. Lucatiel of Mirrah can make an appearance here. Despite this being the earliest area she shows up in, she must be first interacted with in a later game area to appear here. Where must the player talk to her first for her to show up here?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - No Man's Wharf

Answer: Lost Bastille

After talking to her at No Man's Wharf, the player can next find her at Black Gulch. If spoken to at No Man's Wharf, she can assist the player with the area boss.

10. Heide Knights have two weapons they can potentially drop as loot when defeated, the Heide Knight Sword and Heide Knight Spear. Uniquely, these weapons deal split elemental damage. Apart from just physical, what type of damage do these weapons deal?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Heide's Tower of Flame

Answer: Lightning

This will be the first opportunity the player has had to acquire weapons which deal split damage. As it happens, the two bosses of Heide's Tower of Flame, as well as both early game bosses in the Forest of Fallen Giants are weak to Lightning. A player wanting an early game boost would thereby benefit from farming the Heide Knights.

11. Right out of the gate, the very first enemy to appear upon arrival is a mini boss. It can easily be avoided, but it can just as easily cause the player a lot of trouble if they fail or decide not to sneak past it. What enemy is this?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Forest of Fallen Giants

Answer: Ogre

Ogres are nasty monsters that do not stagger, have large health bars and do a lot of damage. They're notably weak to Fire, but the player won't have acquired many means of exploiting this weakness this early in the game. For that reason, it's usually best to sneak past this Ogre, which is fortunately quite easy.

12. The Hidden Weapon sorcery is arguably the most tedious sorcery in the game to acquire. The player will have to join a covenant and then defeat thirty players in PvP combat at a very specific area as an invader. What covenant do they need to join?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" for Nerds II

Answer: Bell Keepers

When a member of this covenant, the player must then equip the Bell Keeper Seal, travel to the bridge right outside the Iron Keep, and wait. The game will actively attempt to connect this player to the world of another player, but only if that other player steps into the Belfry Sol area and has a comparable Soul Memory stat. The player will need to invade other players who come to this area and will need to emerge victorious thirty times in order to receive the Hidden Weapon sorcery. Depending on your skill in PvP and Soul Memory, this could take roughly an afternoon or it could take days, weeks, even months.

13. Unique to "Dark Souls 2", while NPCs can appear as summon signs as a phantom, they can also potentially decide to aid the player as a shade. What is the difference between a phantom and a shade?

From Quiz The NPCs of "Dark Souls 2"

Answer: A phantom will remain until killed or the area boss is defeated

A phantom, when summoned, will remain in the player's world until either killed or the player defeats the area boss. A shade will only stay with the player until a certain amount of enemies have been defeated or the area boss, and if that given area has a mini boss, the shade will depart after helping the player defeat it. On the flip side, phantoms cannot be summoned in an area if the host has defeated that area's boss, while shades can still be summoned anywhere they put their summon sign down.

14. Right from the get go, the player will receive six of an item called a Smelter Wedge. These are useful throughout the entirety of this DLC, in all areas. They are needed to kill very important enemies. Who?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Crown of the Iron King

Answer: Ashen Idols

Ashen Idols are incredibly annoying enemies whose presence will heal and buff nearby enemies. They cannot be harmed other than using a Smelter Wedge to destroy them. They fortunately do not respawn and will drop a Soul of Nadalia when destroyed.

15. Where is the key to this DLC located?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Crown of the Sunken King

Answer: Majula

Traveling down the hole in Majula and making sure to drop in on a wooden platform with a tall black ladder going up will lead to the Dragon Talon. There is a locked door in front of it that requires the Forgotten Key to open it, and this key can be found at the Black Gulch. It isn't supposed to be possible to drop or otherwise lose the Dragon Talon in any way. However, if the player has a completely full inventory of 2,000 individual items, they cannot take anymore, and this will cause the Dragon Talon to appear on the ground as loot. If, for whatever reason, the player loses the Dragon Talon like in that scenario, or in any other way, it will be placed inside a treasure chest at the Majula Mansion. This was done as a fail safe so that the player couldn't end up paying for a DLC only to be left completely unable to access it.

16. Surprisingly, a friendly NPC awaits the player right after entering the Throne of Want. The Emerald Herald offers the player some advice before they actually enter the throne room itself. How did she get here before the player did?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Throne of Want

Answer: This is never revealed

This is never revealed, and the Emerald Herald pulls stunts like this four times across the game. What was the point of going on this adventure, if she could've just headed straight for the Throne of Want right from the beginning? Unfortunately, neither her motives or methods for doing this are ever revealed.

17. As it happens, the Emerald Herald is waiting for the player just beside the Dragon Aerie's first bonfire. How did she beat the player here?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Dragon Aerie & Dragon Shrine

Answer: This is never revealed

This happens a few different times, the Emerald Herald inexplicably beating the player to a few important locations. The game never even attempts to explain how she manages to do this.

18. As soon as the player enters the Keep itself, they'll be invaded by a very amusing, overtly grandiose figure claiming to be the strongest warrior in all of Mirrah. Who is this?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Aldia's Keep

Answer: Aslatiel of Mirrah

In the game's lore, Aslatiel is depicted as the strongest warrior in all of Mirrah, and he is also Lucatiel's brother. As an invader, however, his capabilities are silly. He has no poise to speak of, so any form of damage the player can muster against him will constantly interrupt anything he is doing other than putting his shield up. As such, a player with a fast weapon can easily just attack him until he dies, and he will usually be powerless to do anything about it. So much for being the strongest warrior in all of Mirrah.

19. In the early going of the map, the player gets the opportunity to summon a powerful NPC last seen at the Earthen Peak. Who can help the player for the Undead Crypt in this way?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Undead Crypt

Answer: Devotee Scarlett

Scarlett is back, and ready to carry the player once again. Just like in Earthen Peak, if her AI allowed it, she could unquestionably lay waste to everything in the Undead Crypt, apart from the boss this time, with no input from the player needed. Given that this is a late game area and can be quite brutal for newcomers, it is highly recommended to summon Scarlett for newcomers, or even just in general if you simply want a helpful hand.

20. All that glitters maybe isn't gold here. Across the vast bodies of water the player will be passing by, they'll frequently see gold glistening above various parts of the surface. When approached, what happens with this gold?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Shrine of Amana

Answer: An enemy attacks

Upon touching the gold, a Lizardman will attack the player. This can be used to the player's advantage however, as these Lizardmen will occasionally try and sneak up and ambush the player, and the gold glistening makes these efforts obvious if paid attention to.

21. The Emerald Herald somehow made her way to Drangleic Castle faster than the player. Here, she may tell the player "your soul is frail and pallid." and will warn them not to advance. She will only tell the player this if they've done what?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Drangleic Castle

Answer: Come here without all four Old Great One Souls

It is possible to come here without all four of these. However, the only alternative way would be to grind until reaching one million Soul Memory, and if this way is chosen to reach the castle, the Emerald Herald will tell the player to turn back. In truth, the journey to acquiring all four of these souls will not bring the player to one million Soul Memory on an ordinary, casual playthrough, so if the player reaches one million Soul Memory, they are most likely adequately equipped for Drangleic Castle and can confidently ignore the Emerald Herald's advice.

22. If surviving various falls isn't possible or desirable, the player could head to Earthen Peak and gather the services of an NPC who can provide another way to safely explore the hole. What NPC is this?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - The Hole in Majula

Answer: Laddersmith Gilligan

For 12,000 Souls, Gilligan can build a ladder that will safely and effortlessly allow the player to reach the bottom of the hole. For 7,000 Souls, he can make a ladder that allows access to a door containing the Dragon Talon key item. He will either come to Majula once the player approaches him at Earthen Peak, or he will do so once Mytha the Baneful Queen has been defeated.

23. It turns out Manscorpion Tark knows this area's boss very, very well. What is his relation to the area boss?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Shaded Woods

Answer: He is betrothed to them

Scorpionness Najka and Manscorpion Tark were betrothed, as he will straight up tell the player this. Najka has been driven mad and he seeks to put her out of her misery, but has been unable to do so. The dialogue will end with him asking the player to help by defeating her.

24. As it happens, interacting with the first NPC in Earthen Peak and whisking them away to Majula is causing an awkward family reunion. Who in Majula is directly related to this NPC?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Harvest Valley/Earthen Peak

Answer: Lenigrast

Lenigrast is Chloanne's father. Speaking with both of them largely implies that she came to Majula to search for rare and valuable stones, and her father followed her here without her knowing to ensure her safety. Due to both of them being impacted by the Undead Curse, neither of them actually recall why they are here, however.

25. Right from the get go, the NPC known as Felkin the Outcast can be found right by the very first bonfire of the area. However, he will ignore the player unless they can meet a low albeit specific stat prerequisite. What prerequisite is this?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Huntsman's Copse

Answer: 8 in Intelligence and Faith

Felkin is a Hex focused merchant. Because Hex spells scale off of both Intelligence and Faith, having a prerequisite in these stats makes sense.

26. Carhillion of the Fold is an NPC found here the player can whisk away to Majula. Other than defeating the boss, they'll also need to meet one other prerequisite for him to go to Majula. What is this?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - No Man's Wharf

Answer: 8 in Intelligence

Without an 8 in Intelligence, Carhillion will refuse to interact with the player at all. Once the area boss has been defeated and this stat requirement is met, Carhillion will return to Majula after being spoken to.

27. Lud, the King's Pet, shares one particularly annoying trait with Sinh the Slumbering Dragon, which the player will experience if they strike Lud with a melee weapon. What will happen?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - Boss ABCs II

Answer: Weapon durability depletes faster

When attacking Lud, melee weapons will deplete durability at 2.5x the usual rate. Considering Lud is later joined by Zallen, the King's Pet who has the same mechanic, it is likely a weapon which does not have particularly good durability will outright break during this fight. Or, at the very least, it will require tedious maintenance via the usage of Repair Powder or the Repair sorcery on the player's end.

28. The voice actor Jason Pitt portrayed a character who obsessively encouraged the player to "tear 'em to shreds!" as a means of defending a bell. Who did Jason Pitt voice act as?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" - The Creators of Drangleic

Answer: Bell Keeper Alken

Alken's voice is deranged, excited and bloodthirsty. Given that Belfry Sol is used for nothing but PvP combat, it is thematically fitting.

29. The Old Dragonslayer boss looks like a carbon copy of Ornstein from "Dark Souls 1", with the only major difference being a color palette swap. According to the game's lore, who is Old Dragonslayer?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" for Nerds

Answer: This is never revealed

The in-game lore simply never reveals who this man actually is. There has been endless speculation over the years as to who he could be, but the game itself never provides even an indirect answer, much less anything concrete.

30. The Soul of Nadalia, Bride of Ash is notoriously tedious to earn. When the player has finally managed to do so, Straid of Olaphis will trade them this Pyromancy for it. What Pyromancy is this?

From Quiz "Dark Souls 2" Spell Hunting

Answer: Outcry

Outcry causes a series of dark flame pillars to appear all around the player, causing tremendous damage to any who are directly hit by it. It can only be cast twice and it does take up two spell slots, but its damage output is truly terrifying.
