Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Unique to "Dark Souls 2", while NPCs can appear as summon signs as a phantom, they can also potentially decide to aid the player as a shade. What is the difference between a phantom and a shade?

Answer: A phantom will remain until killed or the area boss is defeated

A phantom, when summoned, will remain in the player's world until either killed or the player defeats the area boss. A shade will only stay with the player until a certain amount of enemies have been defeated or the area boss, and if that given area has a mini boss, the shade will depart after helping the player defeat it. On the flip side, phantoms cannot be summoned in an area if the host has defeated that area's boss, while shades can still be summoned anywhere they put their summon sign down.
2. The Emerald Herald is responsible for administering level ups throughout the player's journey. As it happens, she has an actual name and tells it to the player towards the end of the game. What is her name?

Answer: Shanalotte

She will reveal this to the player at the Dragon Shrine right before the player meets the Ancient Dragon. Alternatively, if the player kills her and then speaks to Sweet Shalquoir, Shalquoir can potentially lament the player's actions and use Shanalotte's name in doing so.
3. Bizarrely, one of the NPCs found within Majula is a talking cat! Sweet Shalquoir is apparently blind, but she can still track the player through what?

Answer: Smell

When speaking to Sweet Shalquoir, she will comment on the player's scent. As well, if asked, she can comment on the scents of other NPCs, including but not limited to Blue Knight Targray, Velstad the Royal Aegis and King Vendrick. She can also sell the player useful items, including the Silvercat Ring which will eventually be required to progress through the game.
4. Benhart of Jugo is a recurring name, as he is tied for the most frequently available NPC summon at five separate bosses, matching Lucatiel of Mirrah. He takes quite a lot of pride in his sword, which distinctly resembles the iconic Moonlight Greatsword. However, it seems he has been led astray about his armament. Which of the following is true about Benhart of Jugo's weapon?

Answer: It isn't a Moonlight Greatsword

Benhart of Jugo's weapon is actually the Bluemoon Greatsword, a distinctly inferior alternative to the real deal. This information will be confirmed by Maughlin the Armorer if the player brings the Bluemoon Greatsword to him. The real Moonlight Greatsword can be obtained by defeating the Duke's Dear Freya in NG+ or after using a Bonfire Aesthetic to make it respawn.

They can then take the Paledrake Soul. After doing that, they can bring it to Straid of Olpahis and exchange it for a Moonlight Greatsword.
5. Uniquely, Lucatiel of Mirrah became the first NPC originating in a base game to also appear as a summon for a DLC boss, joining Benhart of Jugo who would do this later in the game's DLC. These two would be the only instances of this happening for awhile, as it didn't happen in "Dark Souls 3" or "Bloodborne". What DLC boss is Lucatiel available to assist the player in?

Answer: Burnt Ivory King

Lucatiel and Twiggy Shei are available to help the player with this fight. Depending on how the player has approached setting up, they may find them anywhere from absolutely essential to downright worthless. By locating imprisoned Loyce Knights around Frozen Eleum Loyce, the player can already help their numbers advantage without buffing Burnt Ivory King's health, which Lucatiel and Twiggy will do in being summoned. If the player does not take care to find enough Loyce Knights however, the ensuing fight will impose a suffocating numbers disadvantage on the player, which Lucatiel and Twiggy can help mitigate.
6. Fume Knight is arguably the hardest boss fight in the entire game. Two NPCs can be summoned to help fight him. One of them, Steelheart Ellie, is unique for being able to do something to Fume Knight that not even the player can claim to be able to do. What is this?

Answer: She can stagger him

Sadly, Ellie is a mostly poor choice for help, as she does little damage to Fume Knight and her existence causes him to receive a massive 100% boost to his HP. However, if summoned, she has the rare but possible potential to come in extremely clutch and deny him the ability to enter his second phase by staggering him. Ellie dual wields two Caestus, and while they do paltry damage to Fume Knight, she is the only character in the game who can stagger him. If Fume Knight attempts to enter second phase but gets staggered by Ellie as he tries to do so, he will be unable to try again for the rest of the fight, making him significantly easier to handle.

It is very situational and difficult to consistently pull off. If the player is having trouble with Fume Knight, however, perhaps it would be worth rolling the dice on.
7. Lonesome Galvan isn't exactly a social butterfly, but he is the only character whom the player can do one thing with. What is this one thing?

Answer: Sell items

The player can sell all of their useless junk and earn a nice amount of souls in the process. He can initially be found in No Man's Wharf before migrating to the Harvest Valley and then Door of Pharros.
8. Grave Warden Agadayne can potentially be summoned for help when fighting Velstadt the Royal Aegis. However, he is very easy to aggravate and has a distinct dislike for one item that the player must not have equipped when approaching him. What item is this?

Answer: Torch

If the player even enters the room he can be spoken to in with a torch out, he will command them to put the torch away. If the player doesn't quickly do so, a large series of armored hollows along with Agadayne himself will attack. It would probably be a good idea to put it away even for a short while, as he can sell the player immensely helpful Human Effigies and Bonfire Ascetics if the player interacts with him while they don't have a torch out.
9. Darkdiver Grandahl and the Pilgrims of the Dark covenant can potentially give the player access to a secret boss fight. What boss can only be fought if the player joins this covenant?

Answer: Darklurker

Darklurker is well known for being one of the game's hardest bosses, as it has the fierce combination of high damage output, modest but respectable healthpool and the unique ability to cause a Mitosis and split itself up, giving the player two Darklurkers to worry about. Upon defeating it, the player can take the Darklurker Soul to Straid of Olaphis and exchange it for the hex spell Lifedrain Patch, an extremely powerful hex that is a staple for end game hex based Intelligence builds.
10. The player has the opportunity to meet King Vendrick in Memory of the King. Interestingly, however, they can also fight a completely different "modern" version of Vendrick. Where can Vendrick be fought as a boss?

Answer: Undead Crypt

Vendrick is an optional secret boss fight found right after Velstadt the Royal Aegis' boss room. As the player approaches him here, he actually isn't initially hostile. Even if the player attacks him several times, he will simply wander aimlessly around the room, dragging his massive Greatsword on his shoulder. The player will have to do significant damage to him in order for him to finally decide to fight back, spawning a fog door and a boss health bar. Vendrick is extremely tanky (my fight with him lasted 21 minutes and 39 seconds!) and gets even tankier if the player does not have at least five Souls of a Giant in their inventory. The most drastic things can get would be if the player has zero such souls, as this would take Vendrick's already massive defenses and multiply them by a whopping 32!

Vendrick is notable on the "Scholar of the First Sin" edition for being just one of two boss fights to specifically give the player a trophy if they're on PlayStation, or an achievement if they're on XBox or Steam (PC) for defeating him. The other boss this applies to is the Looking Glass Knight.
