Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The "beginning" of Lost Bastille is completely unique compared to the rest of the game. Which of the following is true about the "start" of this map?

Answer: It doesn't technically exist

There are two ways to enter Lost Bastille, the method of entry is entirely up to the player. If they defeat The Pursuer in the Forest of Fallen Giants, they'll end up at the Tower Apart bonfire. If they defeat Flexile Sentry, they'll end up at the Exile Holding Cells.

These Bonfires are on the dead opposite ends of the map from each other, meaning there technically isn't a proper 'starting' area to this map.
2. From the Tower Apart bonfire, a very small amount of travel will reveal a treasure chest in a small opening of a ruined building, resting on a rocky platform. A familiar face will show up to try and stop the player from claiming this chest. Who is this?

Answer: The Pursuer

Directly across the room, close to the door used to enter, The Pursuer will manifest from thin air, appearing to rise from the ground, if the player approaches the chest. Upon defeat, it drops a Twinkling Titanite.
3. From the Tower Apart bonfire, if the player simply proceeds in a straight line, they'll enter a small tower. Here, they can meet an important NPC for the first time. Who is it?

Answer: Lucatiel of Mirrah

This is the first place of four Lucatiel can be met. After speaking to her here, she will next appear in No Man's Wharf.
4. Starting from the Tower Apart bonfire, the player will seemingly find themselves completely barred from further progression when arriving at McDuff's Workshop, as they couldn't have acquired the key at this point nor is there any other way inside. Or at least, so it would seem. What is a different way the player can enter McDuff's Workshop?

Answer: Blowing a hole in the wall

Resting atop two flights of stairs is a barrel with highly flammable, explosive material inside. The player can push against this barrel with their character to cause it to roll down the stairs, then eventually crash right into McDuff's Workshop and explode, blowing a hole open in the wall.

The barrel must be pushed at a specific angle to explode on contact, but if the player barely misses this angle, blowing up the barrel with their own source of fire would suffice.
5. Initially, McDuff seems to be the exact same type of blacksmith as Lenigrast in Majula. However, McDuff does one thing Lenigrast cannot. What is this?

Answer: Infuse weapons

Lenigrast can do all of the incorrect options to this question, but he cannot infuse weapons like McDuff can. Simply bringing McDuff the Divine Ember found next to the Tower Apart bonfire will allow him to infuse any stone the player brings him into a weapon.
6. If the player completes a very simple task in lighting a sconce inside McDuff's Workshop with a torch, he can reward them indirectly with a powerful weapon. What weapon is this?

Answer: Craftsman's Hammer

The Craftsman's Hammer doesn't look like much at first, but it has a lot going for it. It's one-handed moveset has a lot of horizontal movement while getting decent verticality, an unheard of claim for a hammer to be able to make. It's damage output is quite solid with a good base damage, it deals highly coveted Strike damage, can be buffed or infused with anything and, finally, uses Twinkling Titanite to level up with.

It is found inside of a treasure chest McDuff is sitting on when initially met. Lighting the sconce inside his workshop will get him to walk over towards it, thus allowing access to the chest.
7. Right outside McDuff's Workshop is yet another meeting with a familiar face, who can potentially be aided by a pack of rabid dogs and some archers firing overhead. Who appears to fight the player?

Answer: The Pursuer

Second verse, same as the first, The Pursuer will attack the player if they step outside of McDuff's Workshop. Like his appearance in this map prior, he drops a Twinkling Titanite when defeated.
8. The first boss of Lost Bastille would be the Ruin Sentinels. This enemy type shows up later in the game as a mini boss, but uniquely, the three which fight the player here all have names. What are they?

Answer: Alessia, Rhiece and Yahim

There is no particular significance to these names. It is likely the only reason they have names at all is so the player can better connect a name to a health bar and know which of the three they're about to damage when they go to attack.
9. The Ruin Sentinels outnumber the player three to one. The player can change this, as two NPC summons can be summoned for this fight. Who is one of them?

Answer: Pilgrim Bellclaire

Pilgrim Bellclaire is a moderately armored spellcaster who basically spends all fight constantly spamming Heavy Soul Arrow at whoever she is targeting. If the player wants, they can also summon Felicia the Brave, another moderately armored NPC who wields the Grand Lance in her right hand and a Tower Shield in her left.
10. Once the Ruin Sentinels are defeated, the player can now unlock the services of Straid of Olaphis, a very important NPC who converts boss souls into gear. However, they'll need an item to open up his shop- what is it?

Answer: Fragrant Branch of Yore

Straid is initially found having been petrified. Like all other petrified statues, a Fragrant Branch of Yore will do the trick here.
11. Belfry Luna is a very small side area, but it can have a very large impact on a player's playthrough. This area largely interacts with a covenant in PvP fashion. What covenant is this?

Answer: Bell Keepers

While traveling through Belfry Luna, the player is almost certain to eventually be invaded by a member of the Bell Keeper's covenant. This covenant rewards players who join it when they defeat other players who enter either this area or Belfry Sol.
12. For as small as it is, Belfry Luna does have a boss fight. Who is it?

Answer: The Belfry Gargoyles

This is a copy/paste of the Bell Gargoyles of "Dark Souls 1" only this time, there are more Gargoyles to fight. A total of seven can appear at once if the player allows them, and they'll come in every fifteen seconds.
13. Belfry Luna offers the player an NPC summon, one who can help them through the small area, help them with the boss, and perhaps most significantly, help them fight invading players. What NPC is this?

Answer: Masterless Glencour

Glencour can be extremely useful if using him to fend off invading players. Uniquely, his AI here was given the ability to input read enemy players. Because he wields a parry shield, he can consistently parry players who attack with a melee option. This means Glencour is almost impossible for all but the best of best invading players to defeat unless they're a spellcaster. Because the Belfry Gargoyles boss is a gank fight putting the player at a major numbers disadvantage, he can be quite useful here too in serving to ease this imbalance. Notably, Glencour is a Shade here and not a Phantom, so he can be summoned here even if the Belfry Gargoyles have been defeated.
14. Inside the Lost Bastille prison, an illusory wall can be unraveled on the top floor and lead out onto a balcony. Here, yet another familiar face appears to attack the player. Who is it?

Answer: The Pursuer

Well, he certainly lives up to his moniker, as this will be the third time the Pursuer has pursued the player on this map. Like the times previous, he will drop a Twinkling Titanite on defeat. However, because he can levitate, the player must avoid landing the finishing blow while he hovers over an edge of the balcony, as this will cause the loot to fall out of reach and be permanently lost.
15. Sinner's Rise begins with the Saltfort bonfire before eventually traveling down an elevator and through a thick body of water. While slowly wading through this water, the player will, once again, run into a familiar face as a mini boss. Who is it this time?

Answer: Flexile Sentry

The Pursuer passes the baton to Flexile Sentry here. Because the water hinders movement so much, it is basically impossible to run past and avoid the Flexile Sentry, typically forcing the player's hand to deal with it directly.
16. At the end of Sinner's Rise is a boss room. However, off to the sides of this room are two flights of stairs leading into a couple of important rooms. The player needs a key to open these doors. What key is this?

Answer: Lost Bastille Key

This can be found shortly after the Exile Holding Cells bonfire. From here, simply proceeding normally up until the player gets to the top of the first building they can access. Here, amidst a slew of rubble is where the key is found.
17. Upon reaching the end of the Sinner's Rise, The Lost Sinner can be fought. This particular boss, along with three others, is particularly important. Why is this?

Answer: The Lost Sinner is an Old Great One

The Lost Sinner is one of four Old Great Ones the player is tasked with defeating. This is a recycled concept from "Dark Souls 1" which similarly had the player go after four particular bosses, but these were called Bequeathed Lords in that game unlike here. Once she is slain, the Primal Bonfire can be lit and the player can leave the area.
18. The player doesn't have to face The Lost Sinner alone. What NPC can potentially be summoned to help?

Answer: Lucatiel of Mirrah

If the player interacted with Lucatiel in Lost Bastille, her summon sign can be found. It is found just before entering the heavy water area of Sinner's Rise, so she can also help the player fight the returning Flexile Sentry if the player wants.
19. The Soul of the Ruin Sentinels can be traded in to Straid of Olaphis. Oddly, it can only be converted into one thing, a spell. What spell is this?

Answer: Heavy Homing Soul Arrow

This spell requires 35 Intelligence to cast. Unfortunately, it's nowhere close to worth the investment, as it is directly outclassed by Great Heavy Soul Arrow, a spell with less than half the Intelligence requirement at 16 which deals more damage and has similar tracking properties. Unless the player is achievement hunting and trying to earn every spell in the game, the Ruin Sentinel soul is sadly useless.
20. The Lost Sinner's Soul can be turned into her weapon of choice, Lost Sinner's Sword, an Ultra Greatsword. It is exclusive in how it scales, interacting with an almost entirely invisible mechanic in the game. What does this sword mainly scale off of?

Answer: Sin

This mechanic unfortunately makes the weapon basically unusable for PvP oriented players. The more sin the player has, the less powerful this sword is, and when defeating another player during an invasion, the invader's Sin count will rise by one. Killing NPCs, with the exception of using the Crushed Eye Orb to invade and kill Licia of Linheldt, will also increase Sin count by one.

The only way to reset Sin count is to visit Cromwell the Pardoner, who can reset the Sin counter entirely. He will do this five times per playthrough, though the cost of Souls to do it grows with each cleansing.

However, this will not remove Sin accumulated from invading other players for some reason, so it still makes this sword a bad choice for players who want to get involved in PvP.
