Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This game almost exclusively uses double battles, so the player has not one, but two starter Pokemon. What does the player get for starters?

Answer: Espeon and Umbreon

The Umbreon comes at level 27, the Espeon at 25. They both have one good STAB move each, a Normal type "coverage" move, and two utility moves to start.
2. Catching Shadow Pokemon is how the player can mainly fill their party up. What is the first Shadow Pokemon available for capture?

Answer: Makuhita

Makuhita is made available in what is essentially a tutorial of sorts, to showcase how catching Shadow Pokemon works. It comes with a 100% guaranteed catch rate even at full health, so this is one of the easiest snags in the entire game.
3. From the very first to the very last, labeled by the game as "The Ultimate Shadow Pokemon", what Shadow Pokemon does the game's final boss have?

Answer: Tyranitar

Surprisingly, the player can catch actual legendary Pokemon well before this encounter. Yet, the supposed 'ultimate' Shadow Pokemon is the psuedo-legendary Tyranitar. To be completely fair, Tyranitar is incredibly powerful and brilliantly suited for this game, though some may have argued that making this into Ho-Oh or a similar legendary may have been more thematically fitting.
4. Legendary Pokemon are available in this game. What is the first legendary the player can catch?

Answer: Entei

Entei can be caught at level 40 during the player's encounter with Dakim. If the player fails to catch Entei when fighting Dakim, fret not as Entei will remain permanently available for catch when fighting Dakim until the capture is finally successful.

The player will rematch Dakim at Realgam Tower. Once the player has beaten the entire game, they can rematch Dakim whenever they want by simply going back to the Realgam Tower.
5. Like any game in this franchise, there is an evil organization the player must oppose. What is their name?

Answer: Cipher

Cipher is the antagonistic force the player will be going toe to toe with all game long. Unlike other games in this franchise, defeating Cipher is the main and central goal rather than conquering an Elite Four and becoming Champion.
6. The first admin from Orre's evil team is the famous Miror B, well known for being the only antagonist to return to "Pokemon: XD Gale of Darkness." Other than his Shadow, Miror B tends to focus on raising one specific Pokemon species in this game. What species?

Answer: Ludicolo

In the player's first encounter with Miror B, he will have a team of four Ludicolos and a shadow Sudowoodo. In the rematch with him at Realgam Tower, he only keeps two of those Ludicolos and includes an Armaldo (if Sudowoodo has been caught), a Golduck and a Loudred.
7. At the beginning of the game, the player meets a very interesting character- Nascour. Nascour promises to meet the player again, and is later seen giving Miror B and other evil admins orders. Is Nascour the final boss of this game?

Answer: No

Nascour is largely portrayed as the leader of Cipher. The player gets the chance to confront him later. If they defeat him, however, they will find out that he does have an in-house boss: Es Cade, AKA Evice, the mayor of Phenac City, is also a secret criminal overlord.
8. Purifying Shadow Pokemon is an optional side goal the game gives the player. It is required in order to level them up, to realistically progress through the game. Where does the player go to purify Shadow Pokemon?

Answer: Agate Village

At Agate Village in the Relic Forest, the player can use the shrine to purify Pokemon whose heart gauges are empty. Without doing this, Shadow Pokemon can't level up at all, though they'll immediately gain any experience they earned upon purification.
9. With catching and purifying Shadow Pokemon being a large part of this game, how many Shadow Pokemon are there to interact with?

Answer: 48

Once the player has purified all 48 Shadow Pokemon, they can climb their way to the top of Mt Battle to obtain Ho-Oh. Doing this is certain to take quite awhile though, so investing in Scents to speed the process up may be a good idea.
10. In battle, Shadow Pokemon can potentially enter Hyper Mode. Which of the following is true about Hyper Mode?

Answer: It can be easily removed

In Hyper Mode, Shadow Pokemon have an 80% chance to disobey the player if the player wants them to use a move that is anything other than Shadow Rush. While in Hyper Mode, Shadow Rush gains an 80% critical hit rate as well. While in Hyper Mode, the player will be unable to use items on the Pokemon either.

Fortunately, Hyper Mode can be dispersed by simply choosing the "Call" option in battle. This will expend a turn, where the player character calls out the Pokemon's name to remove Hyper Mode. It also slightly empties their heart gauge.

Hyper Mode will also be shed if the Pokemon faints.
