Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Shepard (the player character) met Dr. Garret Bryson at his lab on the Citadel. Bryson was researching the Leviathan of Dis, which seemed to have the Reapers spooked. What happened to Dr. Bryson soon after Shepard arrived?

Answer: Bryson was shot and killed by his assistant

Dr. Bryson had a Leviathan object in his lab for study. What he didn't know was that the object slowly enthralled nearby individuals (similar to object Rho from the "Arrival" DLC for "Mass Effect 2"). The more time spent near the object, the stronger the control. Bryson's assistant, Hadley, was normal one minute, and then attacked Bryson once he started telling Shepard about Leviathan.

After the assassination, Hadley insisted that he had no memory of the incident. He was taken away, and when Shepard came back later in the DLC, he was in a vegetative state, probably induced by Leviathan to stop him from talking.
2. Which squad member showed up at Bryson's lab to help?

Answer: EDI, the artificial intelligence

EDI's ability to crunch numbers, sift data, and find patterns made her an invaluable asset for this investigation. One clue involved decrypting Dr. Bryson's data, and EDI was able to create a decryption key on the fly.
3. The first task was to find Alex Garneau, a scientist working for Bryson. How did Shepard figure out where Garneau was?

Answer: By using overlapping search parameters

Shepard could find six search parameters in the lab, but not all were useful. An overlap of Reaper activities, Eezo locations, and creature sightings led Shepard to the asteroid Mahavid. The Prothean activity, Rachni activity, and reports of blackout crimes parameters were not useful.
4. Shepard tracked Garneau to an asteroid run by T-GES Mineral Works. While on the asteroid, which mission type from the "Mass Effect 3" multiplayer component did Shepard encounter?

Answer: Drone escort

When "Mass Effect 3" was first released, its multiplayer had only three mission types. Two more were added later with DLC. The "Earth" DLC introduced the drone escort mission type in July, 2012, and the "Leviathan" DLC made use of it the next month in August.

"Leviathan" also made light use of the hacking mission type, and later (sort of) used the retrieve objects mission type (but not on the T-GES asteroid).
5. What was Alex Garneau's status on the T-GES Mineral Works asteroid when Shepard found him?

Answer: Garneau was dead

Shepard found a man claiming to be Garneau in the T-GES med bay, seemingly trapped. But when Shepard pressed him for information, he broke out and ran away. Shepard chased him to the Leviathan object, where "Garneau" was being attacked by Reaper husks.

He detonated explosives near the object, committing suicide and destroying it. Shepard found the body of the real Garneau in the same room. He had been dead for a while.
6. The Leviathan objects had an enthralling effect similar to the Reaper's indoctrination or the Thorian from "Mass Effect". Garneau was on the T-GES Mineral Works asteroid because an object had been found. When the object was destroyed, the thralls were released. How long had the miners been enthralled?

Answer: Ten years

Mahavid, the asteroid T-GES Mineral Works was set up on, had a population of 152, consisting of humans, asari, and turians. They all seemed to come to their senses when the Leviathan object was destroyed, with no memory of Shepard or Garneau. They did not even know what a Reaper was. They thought the year was 2176. "Mass Effect 3" took place in 2186.
7. Shepard returned to Bryson's lab on the Citadel. The next lead to track down was Dr. Ann Bryson, Garret Bryson's daughter. Shepard was able to narrow down the search for her by looking at which equipment was missing from the locker. What had Ann taken?

Answer: Water reclamation gear

Shepard knew Ann was in the Pylos nebula, but nothing else. Ann had taken the water reclamation gear, but had left the breathing mask and environmental suit (there was no hunting rifle). This led EDI to deduce that Ann was on an arid world that was otherwise hospitable. Ann also charted a long-haul freighter, meaning her destination was likely not in the same system as the mass relay.

These two filters led Shepard to Namakli, where Ann was under attack by Reapers.
8. After Shepard saved Ann Bryson from a Reaper attack, they were near the end of their search. How did Shepard find Leviathan's final location?

Answer: By tracing Ann's enthrallment

Ann had been studying the Leviathan object on Namakli, unknowingly becoming a thrall of the Leviathan. The Namakli object was destroyed, but the object back on the Citadel was still intact (and now shielded). EDI devised a way to trace Leviathan's signal through the object.

The shield was dropped and Shepard had a conversation with Leviathan through Ann while EDI ran the trace. The longer the conversation went, the more EDI was able to narrow the search, but the more damage Ann sustained.
9. On what kind of world did Shepard find Leviathan?

Answer: Oceanic

Leviathan was traced to 2181 Despoina in Sigurd's Cradle. It was an ocean world with Leviathan hiding beneath the surface. The kodiak drop shuttle was rated for 1000 atmospheres, but a pulse shield knocked it out of the sky. Shepard and crew landed on the floating wreckage of the MSV Monarch, which was just one of hundreds of wrecked ships in a graveyard. To go below the waves, Shepard commandeered a modified Triton mech (similar to a Cerberus Atlas mech).
10. Who was the first Reaper according to Leviathan?

Answer: Harbinger

Harbinger was the Reaper that would take control of individual Collectors in "Mass Effect 2," and was the final Reaper on Earth at the end of "Mass Effect 3".

Sovereign was the sentinel Reaper left behind to watch the galaxy from the previous cycle, and the primary antagonist of "Mass Effect".

Leviathan itself was not a reaper; it was an organic member of the species that created the Reapers - the species that the Reapers were made in the image of. The Reapers turned on their creators, so the few remaining Leviathans hid, watched the galaxy through their objects for countless cycles, making sure their "darkness" would not be breached. Shepard managed to convince them that this cycle was different, and that they had a chance to finally defeat the Reapers, bringing Leviathan out of hiding.
