Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what game did the Moonlight Greatsword debut?

Answer: King's Field

Released in December 16th of 1994, this is where the legendary armament was born.
2. The Moonlight Greatsword has inherited a few different very technical names across the "Armored Core" franchise. However, as a melee weapon, it has remained a part of the same class from the very first, all the way to the sixth iteration of "Armored Core". What melee class has it been?

Answer: Laser

Laser has notoriously good piercing properties, making the Moonlight Greatsword good at cutting through shields. In each game it has appeared in, it has been the only projectile to have unlimited ammunition. It does, however, overheat after each usage so it cannot be brainlessly spammed.
3. In "Demon's Souls" the Moonlight Greatsword, or Large Sword of Moonlight, has unique properties that differentiate it from its other iterations across From Software's games. What stat does it primarily scale with here?

Answer: Faith

This would be the only part of the series where the Moonlight Greatsword does not primarily scale off of Intelligence. Requiring a 24 in Faith but yielding an S scaling, the weapon remains a powerful choice.
4. In "Dark Souls 1", acquiring the Moonlight Greatsword can be quite difficult. The player must cut off the tail of a boss. Whose tail must be cut?

Answer: Seath the Scaleless

This is particularly annoying, because when Seath isn't attacking, he will constantly try to adjust himself to be facing the player, which would keep his tail out of reach. Either the player must attack it with projectiles, or they must conserve their stamina and then book it towards the tail while Seath is actively attacking.

It is possible to defeat Seath without cutting off his tail and, unfortunately, if that happens, it will become impossible to acquire the Moonlight Greatsword without having a friend gift it.
5. In "Dark Souls 2", acquiring the Moonlight Greatsword without venturing into New Game Plus requires usage of an item. What item is this?

Answer: Bonfire Ascetic

With this Bonfire Ascetic, the player must use it to resuscitate The Duke's Dear Freja. Once that is done, the player must then go and defeat The Duke's Dear Freja to receive the Paledrake Soul. The Paledrake Soul can be traded to Weaponsmith Ornifex in return for the Moonlight Greatsword.

The Paledrake Soul will not be dropped by the Duke's Dear Freja unless it is New Game Plus or the player uses a Bonfire Ascetic to respawn the boss.
6. In "Dark Souls 3", the player can freely acquire the Moonlight Greatsword, and it won't require any tail-cutting hijinx or the use of any particular item- just the defeating of an otherwise optional boss. What boss soul will allow them to acquire the Moonlight Greatsword?

Answer: Oceiros the Consumed King

Thankfully, Oceiros can be defeated using any means at all, and he will drop his named boss soul. The boss soul can then be traded to Ludleth at Firelink Shrine for the Moonlight Greatsword, simple as that. It will cost ten thousand souls to make this trade.
7. In "Bloodborne", the playerbase may have initially thought the Moonlight Greatsword was forgotten about, until DLC came around. It wouldn't be until an iconic, legendary cutscene for this boss when the Moonlight Greatsword or, Holy Moonlight Sword, would be revealed. What boss wields this weapon during their second phase?

Answer: Ludwig the Holy Blade

Ludwig's first phase features him simply rushing down the player in a quadripedal stance, acting the part of a beast-oriented boss fight. When brought to half health, a cutscene will play where Ludwig falls, seemingly defeated. While in his would-be final moments, the Holy Moonlight Sword appears to him, he calls out to it, his reinvigorated, and begins to use this weapon in all of his attacks spent standing straight up for the rest of the fight.

Up until this boss was released, there was no indication whatsoever that the Moonlight Greatsword would make an appearance anywhere in "Bloodborne". The abrupt reveal on what would later become arguably the hardest boss in the game, alongside arguably the most epic soundtrack in the entire game, went on to make this boss fight one of the most memorable boss fights From Software would ever make.
8. In "Elden Ring", the Moonlight Greatsword, or Darkmoon Greatsword, is locked behind quite the lengthy questline. When finally acquiring the Dark Moon Ring, the player can essentially go trade it, in a manner of speaking, for the sword. Who gives the player the Darkmoon Greatsword?

Answer: Ranni the Witch

The Dark Moon Ring is the last key item of note in Ranni's long questline. Upon giving it to her, the player will have finally done all they needed to do to receive the Age of Stars ending, and all they have to do now is simply defeat the Elden Beast, the final boss of the game.

The Darkmoon Greatsword can certainly help with that endeavor, as it is largely thought to be among the best weapons in the entire game.
9. In "Armored Core 6", the Moonlight Greatsword, or IA-C01W2: MOONLIGHT, may be in its hardest-to-reach position yet seen in a From Software game. The player must grab the weapon, then they must defeat a brutally hard boss in the same sitting. What boss?

Answer: CEL 240

CEL 240 is notorious for being, bar none, the fastest boss in the game, and keeping up with it can be a nightmare. However, it's a nightmare the player must embark upon if they want the Moonlight Greatsword. They must first go out of the line of natural progression, kill a few enemies, obtain the weapon, then they msut defeat CEL 240. If they leave the game, fail to make it to CEL 240, or are eventually defeated by CEL 240, they cannot start from their most recent checkpoint; they must begin the mission all over again and get the Moonlight Greatsword once more. Defeating CEL 240 after using a checkpoint will effectively 'erase' the action of having acquired the sword, so it must all be done in one sitting.
10. Across its history, the Moonlight Greatsword has consistently performed a unique function in any game where a heavy attack button is pressed while using it. What does it do here?

Answer: Fire a moon beam

In the "Dark Souls" series, this functions as a de-facto weapon skill that doesn't consume anything other than durability, making it quite valuable. In "Bloodborne", it consumes one Quicksilver Bullet and has piercing properties, allowing it to hit multiple enemies.

In "Elden Ring", this function is the only Ash of War in the game to not be tied to the "L2" button. Finally, in the "Armored Core" franchise, this is the only projectile in the whole franchise that has infinite ammunition.
