Answer: Demon's Souls

In "Demon's Souls", the Broken Straight Sword is at its worst. Here, it cannot be upgraded and it has no scaling whatsoever. This means that it is completely incapable of dealing more than 2 points of damage without the use of a buff item or spell. Such a utility is unlikely to get this meagre tool to inflict even double digit damage, and it's the best the weapon will ever be capable of.

Unsurprisingly, such a pathetic weapon gave birth to arguably the most well known challenge run in From Software history: the Broken Sword run. Simply put, players challenge themselves to see how far they can get, or if they can go start to finish, using nothing but the Broken Straight Sword.

Answer: iron

This description is in direct reference to "Berserk", which has its prints all over From Software as a consistent inspiration. Specifically, the Greatsword's wording references the Dragon Slayer sword in "Berserk", described as "Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it was a heap of raw iron."

Answer: The weapon constantly clanks against targets

In general, attacking any wall or a shield with a melee weapon will cause the weapon to clank in recoil. Here, if the Greatsword of Artorias lacks the 18 Intelligence or Faith needed to wield it, it will do normal damage, but it will clank even if striking a surface that does not usually cause clanking, like hitting an enemy or a destructible piece of the environment.

Answer: Obsidian Greatsword

The Obsidian Greatsword is obtained by cutting the tail off of Black Dragon Kalameet. Not only is Kalameet just a generally tough boss fight anyway, but cutting off his tail is even more difficult. Most of Kalameet's attacks put his tail out of the reach of melee weapons, so it's likely the player will need a strong projectile of some kind to get the job done. Like others, Kalameet can be defeated without having his tail cut.

Unfortunately, if that happens, the player will have to go to New Game Plus to try again, or will have to rely on a friend gifting them the Obsidian Greatsword.

Answer: Sin

Sin is accumulated from either killing innocent NPCs, or invading other players and killing them. Strangely, this sword actually gets weaker the more sin the player accumulates. Sadly, this makes it unusable for players who enjoy partaking in PvP.

Answer: Souls held

The user will experience a penalty in damage dealt on the sword if the user has less than 300,000 souls. Once this amount is attained, the sword will gain in power until the user caps its power at one million souls. Note that the player cannot spend these souls as, if they do, the sword's damage output will suffer. Because it takes a long time to accumulate one million souls, it is recommended to use this sword alongside the Ring of Life Protection, shielding the player from losing their souls if they die and being fairly cheap to repair.

Answer: Soul of Cinder

Soul of Cinder drops the Soul of the Lords when slain. One of the rewards for the soul is, unsurprisingly, the Firelink Greatsword. The Soul of Cinder uses this very sword when fighting him.

Answer: Broken Straight Sword

The ultimate irony: the last boss of the entire trilogy, arguably the most challenging and arguably the most epic, uses what's basically just a suped-up version of the worst weapon in the entire franchise. Unsurprisingly, it's a lot more threatening than the actual Broken Straight Sword, both wielded by Gael or the player.

Answer: A bunch of small swords

The Grafted Greatsword is just a basic Greatsword with a bunch of small swords attached to it. It's a funny, humble concept that allows the weapon to stand out amongst its peers.

Answer: Greatsword

Sometimes, there's just a simple beauty in simplicity, and the basic Greatsword has consistently been representative of this sentiment. Rather than have a built-in Wrath of the Gods like the Golden Order Greatsword, or having what is basically a lethal boomerang from the Marais Executioner Sword, we instead get the good ol' coarse lump of iron to smash the Lands Between over with.

Answer: Kirkhammer

The Kirkhammer's untransformed mode is a simple, silver short sword. This gives it a very basic slashing moveset, similar to other swords across the franchise.

Answer: Shoot the sword

Specifically, only Quicksilver Bullets will eliminate this sword. If the sword remains unchecked for just a few seconds, it will suddenly dissipate into a massive swarm of daggers that will fly around the boss room chaotically. Unsurprisingly, they cannot hurt Martyr Logarius himself, so there is little reason not to shoot the sword.

Answer: Ancient City

It is here where the weapon can be acquired. It is notable for producing among the highest raw DPS out of any weapon in the game.

Answer: Triple Fang

The Triple Fang can be acquired by speaking to Leon in the Ancient City.

Answer: Dark Souls 2

The parry frames on ultra greatswords are horrendous. This makes trying to parry someone with a functioning brain out to be needlessly difficult. This is likely why future iterations in the franchise would give these weapons something better to do with their L2s.
