Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. About halfway through "Oni", protagonist Konoko obtains what is arguably the most powerful weapon in the game for the first time. It launches bolts that kill most enemies in a single hit and those that do get back up die seconds later. Why is that?

Answer: The bolt poisons enemies

The Mercury Bow fires chilled slivers of mercury into enemies. Those that stand back up will die soon after due to mercury poisoning. To balance out the weapon, the Mercury Bow only holds two rounds, causing Konoko to eat up a lot of ammo with repeated uses. This is a weapon best saved for troublesome enemies or bosses.
2. "Castlevania" is arguably Konami's biggest and most beloved franchise. Since its inception, the world has seen many members of the Belmont family come and go. With the power of their Vampire Killer whip, Count Dracula and his forces have always been vanquished by the Belmonts. Which Belmont was the one that gave the Vampire Killer its power?

Answer: Leon Belmont from "Castlevania: Lament of Innocence"

Leon Belmont gave up his title of baron when his fiancée Sara Taratoul was kidnapped by the vampire Walter Bernhard. Though he saved her, the blood of a vampire already flowed through her veins and so with the guidance of the alchemist Rinaldo Gandalfi, Leon struck Sara down and allowed the whip he wielded to absorb her soul, giving it absolute power over all creatures of the night.
3. Even in a game where killing one's enemies is the smart way to go about doing things, sometimes players must take a less lethal route. Non-lethal weapons aren't half as popular as every other gaming weapon but that doesn't mean that even they can't deal some decent damage. Which third-person shooter featured a ridiculous overpowered taser?

Answer: "Syphon Filter"

The taser was supposedly used for non-lethal takedowns though using it on an enemy provided players with a much different reaction. Holding down the fire button after attacking an enemy with the taser would cause them to scream, then burst into flame. The enemy would shudder and continue to burn for as long as the player held down the fire button. In "Syphon Filter 2", the taser is even capable of killing parachuting enemies before they've touched down.

During the non-lethal takedown portion of the tutorials in "Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror", protagonist Gabriel Logan remarks, "Ah, the taser. My favorite weapon."
4. In "Megaman: The Wily Wars", players were tasked with running through a remade version of several "Megaman" games before tackling an original area called Wily's Tower. Before each stage of Wily's Tower, players could select up to eight weapons and three gadgets, all of which had been obtained earlier in the game. Which weapon or gadget was NOT selectable?

Answer: Pharaoh Shot

"Megaman: The Wily Wars" was a Sega Genesis remake of the first three "Megaman" games. As such, Megaman couldn't select the Pharaoh Shot as it was introduced in "Megaman 4". Sadly, the ability to create your own arsenal from a plethora of Robot Master weapons was never reused.

Squandered potential if you ask me. Imagine if they did that with all ten games...
5. In "Dynamite Headdy", the titular character takes the saying 'use your head' a bit too literally. Using it to attack his enemies and grapple onto platforms, his friend Headcase shows up occasionally with power-ups for him which transform his head temporarily. Which of these transformations was NOT in the game?

Answer: A 16-ton weight head that damages all enemies on screen

Other head power-ups include the Mini Head that shrinks the player, the Hammer Head that doubles attack power and the Head Trip, which leaves Headdy completely defenseless until it wears off. At about the halfway point in the game, Headdy also enters a shmup-like level in which he can also obtain a Biplane Head, a Bird Head and a Laser Head. Utilizing the proper head power-up at the proper time is the key to victory during the final boss battle.
6. Kirby is well-known for his ability to suck up and copy the abilities of his enemies. In almost every game he's been in, Kirby has used this special talent to help defeat King DeDeDe and Meta Knight amongst others. Almost every game. In which one of these games was Kirby able to suck up and copy abilities?

Answer: "Kirby's Adventure"

Despite being a staple of the franchise, Kirby only had the ability to suck in and shoot out stars in his debut title. The ability to actually copy abilities wasn't introduced until the sequel "Kirby's Adventure". In "Kirby's Epic Yarn", he shoots out his hand and unravels the scenery and enemies while in "Kirby's Squeak Squad", he and his clones tackle enemies into submission.
7. Racing games are all about getting into first and staying there until players cross the finish line. However, Nintendo felt that this must have been to easy for most people and created the blue shell which automatically seeks out the lead player in a race. Which was the first game to introduce this devastating weapon?

Answer: "Mario Kart 64"

The blue shell, known in-game as 'Blue Spiny Shell', was the rarest item in "Mario Kart 64". In addition to seeking out the lead racer, it would take out anything in its path. If the lead racer was invincible or invisible, the shell would be destroyed or pass through the racer respectively. If the lead racer uses a blue shell, it will shoot backwards and take them out.
8. Competitors in the Twisted Metal competition utilize weaponry of all sorts from machine guns to ballistic missiles. At times, the weapons used by the characters from the series can get a little bizarre. Which of these weapons has NOT been used in the "Twisted Metal" franchise?

Answer: A flaming tire that homes in on enemies

Sweet Tooth's special in the original "Twisted Metal" were Napalm Cones, Crimson Fury's special in "Twisted Metal: Small Brawl" were a trio of flaming paper airplanes and players were able to use a freezing remote bomb in "Twisted Metal 4".

The flaming tire special belongs to Convoy from "Vigilante 8" which is often referred to as the closest competitor to "Twisted Metal' when it comes to vehicular combat. The game was about two dueling gangs in the late-'80s.
9. After entering Rapture for the first time, Jack from "Bioshock" is instructed to find a melee weapon of some sort by his new ally Atlas. What game is Atlas' suggestion a reference to?

Answer: "Half-Life 2"

After scaring off the Spider Splicer, Atlas suggests that Jack find 'a crowbar or something'. This is a reference to the "Half-Life" franchises' Gordon Freeman whose melee weapon of choice is a crowbar.

Even after the world is conquered by aliens, it would seem that there is still an abundance of crowbars in the world as Gordon receives a new one in each of the "Half-Life 2" episodes.
10. "The World Ends With You" introduced a pin system that allowed certain abilities to be used by equipping certain pins. Certain pins could be leveled up by defeating enemies or by mingling with friends. Some pins could only be leveled up by simply not playing the game while the pins in question were equipped. Which of the following pins could only be leveled up using this method?

Answer: Burning Melon

By receiving enough 'Shutdown PP', the Burning Cherry Pin will evolve into the Burning Melon pin. Shutdown PP can be earn by not playing the game for several consecutive hours, lasting up to a full week of non-play. Each day following the first will bring in less PP than the last meaning that players seeking to maximize their Shutdown PP intake should start up the game once every 25 hours.
