Satanism Trivia Questions

1. Where are the headquarters of the Satanic Temple?

From Quiz
The Satanic Temple

Answer: Salem, Massachusetts

The headquarters are located in Salem, Massachusetts and they share a building with the Salem Art Gallery. The building they are in is a former Victorian funeral home. The organization was founded by Lucien Greaves and Malcolm Jarry who met in 2012 and co-founded the group which became active in early 2013. The Satanic Temple achieved tax exempt status given to churches in 2019.

2. While Dr. Michael A. Aquino was the first modern self-proclaimed Magus to utter the word Xeper, another Magus re-uttered the world several years later. Who was this Magus?

From Quiz Western Left Hand Path 2

Answer: Don Webb

Don Webb explained that whereas Dr. Aquino understood Xeper as an act of Becoming, Mr. Webb came at the word from the perspective of "remanifestation." Dr. Aquino's Xeper in this case could be compared to finding a band you love for the first time, where Mr. Webb's Xeper is rediscovering that band a decade later when moving to a new home. Coming into being is not thought to be a one-time thing, but a continuous process of remanifestation.

3. Which "brand" of Heavy Metal music is most closely associated with, and accused of, promoting Satanism?

From Quiz Satanism, Subliminally

Prior to this announcement, degrees beyond I° were conferred based on considerations of merit. LaVey's house was shot at on at least one occasion, but he was never shot himself. Neither of the other statements are at all true.

9. Who became the figurehead for modern Satanism following the publication of "The Satanic Bible"?

From Quiz The Satanic Bible and the Birth of Modern Satanism

Answer: Anton LaVey

Anton Szandor LaVey wrote the Satanic Bible in 1969 after beginning his interest in Satanism the the young age of 16. His writings are the most commonly available books on the subject. Aleister Crowley spent 50 years in the company of magic, from his initiation into the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in 1898 until his death in 1947. Deeply inspired by ritual and the study of Qabalistic writings, he fused Western ritual magic with Eastern yoga and sexual magic to create a hybrid often referred to as "Thelemic Magick". Much had been made of Heinrich Himmler and his liking for the Black Arts, whether this is in order to better explain his inhumane actions or actual fact, it remains a hard-to-shake label. Head of the SS in Nazi Germany, his intellectual mind may well have been drawn to groups such as the Thule Society. Many books have been written about Nazism and the Occult, strangely less have been penned regarding the Allies "Bureau of the Occult." Gerald Gardner is seen by many as the father of modern Witchcraft and the Wiccan faith - which is totally separate from Satanism and Devil worship. Gardner first wrote 'fiction' about witches until after 1951 when the repeal of the witchcraft laws enabled him to publish (in 1954) "Witchcraft Today". Debate continues today about whether Gardner's "Book of Shadows" is his own work or a representation of the rites of the New Forest covens inspired by Dorothy Clutterbuck.

11. Peter Gilmore, a High Priest of the Church of Satan, has made his view of theists very clear. What does he say about them?

From Quiz Western Left Hand Path 2

Answer: Mr. Gilmore believes that anyone who is not an atheist is on some level insane.

Peter Gilmore is the High Priest of the Church of Satan, currently the head and face of the organization. He has written several books on Satanic philosophy from the Church's perspective, most notably "The Satanic Scriptures." Mr. Gilmore believes that Satanism "begins and ends with atheism," and that any other form of the LHP is invalid. In an interview with David Shankbone (David Miller), accredited reporter for Wikinews, Mr. Gilmore stated that "anyone who believes in supernatural entities is on some level insane." Mr. Gilmore goes on to say that "we don't think they [theistic Satanists] are Satanists. They're Devil worshipers as far as I'm concerned." Not only does he consider all theists insane on some level, but believes any other form of "Satanism" is simply "Devil Worship," despite vast amounts of objective academic works that state this is simply untrue (i.e. "The Invention of Satanism," "The Devil's Party," and "Lords of the Left Hand Path.") When asked if he has interaction with theistic Satanists, Mr. Gilmore stated "No, I have complete contempt for them..."

15. Just as the Old Testament contains the Ten Commandments, the Satanic Bible has its own set of guidelines. By what name are these known?

From Quiz The Satanic Bible and the Birth of Modern Satanism

Answer: The Nine Satanic Statements

Contrary to popular belief, the Nine Satanic Statements are not the exact opposite of the Ten Commandments. They do not begin "Thou shalt worship other gods than Ywah, Thou shalt make graven images" etc. LaVey saw the Black Mass and the mocking of Christianity as outmoded, or as he put it "beating a dead horse". He tried to make the Statements positive, turning from the view that Satanism should be anti-Christian/anti-Jewish and instead putting forward ideas for what Satanists should aspire to. The ninth Statement is not intended as a guideline as such but more a representation of LaVey's humour and his inability to totally avoid needling the Church.

16. How many fundamental tenets of the Satanic Temple are there?

From Quiz The Satanic Temple

Pride is great up to the point you begin to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The rule of Satanism is: if it works for you, great. 27. According to LeVay, satanism is best described as what type of religion?

From Quiz The Satanic Bible and the Birth of Modern Satanism

Answer: Selfish

While I am sure many people believe "wrong" is the correct answer, we do live in an age of religious tolerance. LaVey sculpted his views on Satanism from his own mind and from those of powerful occult groups which flourished pre-1937. He saw his religion as 'a blatantly selfish, brutal philosophy'. He did not believe in the meekness of man, only that human beings were guided by evolution to seek out the best for themselves and those they loved and not to concern themselves with the plight of 'Man'. He believed that the strong ruled with their own interests at heart; if they happened to help others along the way that was fine - but the driving desire was success for oneself. He did not see the world as a land of 'milk and honey' but as a brutal wasteland with everyone vying for power and status.
