Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While Dr. Michael A. Aquino was the first modern self-proclaimed Magus to utter the word Xeper, another Magus re-uttered the world several years later. Who was this Magus?

Answer: Don Webb

Don Webb explained that whereas Dr. Aquino understood Xeper as an act of Becoming, Mr. Webb came at the word from the perspective of "remanifestation." Dr. Aquino's Xeper in this case could be compared to finding a band you love for the first time, where Mr. Webb's Xeper is rediscovering that band a decade later when moving to a new home. Coming into being is not thought to be a one-time thing, but a continuous process of remanifestation.
2. Peter Gilmore, a High Priest of the Church of Satan, has made his view of theists very clear. What does he say about them?

Answer: Mr. Gilmore believes that anyone who is not an atheist is on some level insane.

Peter Gilmore is the High Priest of the Church of Satan, currently the head and face of the organization. He has written several books on Satanic philosophy from the Church's perspective, most notably "The Satanic Scriptures." Mr. Gilmore believes that Satanism "begins and ends with atheism," and that any other form of the LHP is invalid.

In an interview with David Shankbone (David Miller), accredited reporter for Wikinews, Mr. Gilmore stated that "anyone who believes in supernatural entities is on some level insane." Mr. Gilmore goes on to say that "we don't think they [theistic Satanists] are Satanists. They're Devil worshipers as far as I'm concerned." Not only does he consider all theists insane on some level, but believes any other form of "Satanism" is simply "Devil Worship," despite vast amounts of objective academic works that state this is simply untrue (i.e. "The Invention of Satanism," "The Devil's Party," and "Lords of the Left Hand Path.") When asked if he has interaction with theistic Satanists, Mr. Gilmore stated "No, I have complete contempt for them..."
3. Dr. Stephen E. Flowers associates which Norse God with the Egyptian God Set?

Answer: Odin

Dr. Flowers believes Odin to be a God of creativity and inspiration, due to his sacrifice to obtain the Runes, the ground of language and magic. Dr. Flowers holds the common modern esoteric view of Set as the god of "Isolate Intelligence," or the individual, higher conscious self, and so what all creativity and inspiration is rooted in. Dr. Flowers has a fantastic lecture and Q&A available through the KHPR podcast, which can be found for free online.
4. Baphomet is a common figure in the Western Left Hand Path, generally viewed as a goat-like being. However, one group imagines Baphomet to be a beautiful female Goddess and center of their belief system. Which group is this?

Answer: Order of Nine Angles

The Order of Nine Angles believes Baphomet to be an "Acausal" entity of central importance. She is generally depicted as seated, holding a severed head in her right hand. She is a Goddess who requires blood sacrifice and fits with the promiscuous image common to witches in Western lore.
5. What is the first initiatory degree of the Order of the Phosphorous?

Answer: Adept of the Black Flame

This is the degree where initiates seek to know and follow their True Will, according to the Order. The Black Flame is an extremely common symbol in the esoteric Left Hand Path, generally representing the characteristic of higher human consciousness, that which truly separates us from the rest of nature.
6. The Order of the Serpent was founded by how many individuals?

Answer: Three

The Order of the Serpent was founded by a group of three individuals, who go by the public "magical" names of Setamontet, Onyx, and Xepera maSet. It is these three who run day-to-day operations in their entirety, manage the forum, produce the newsletter, and go over membership applications.

However, unlike most occult groups this is the extent of the divide, and the O.S. does not even contain degree systems, as all members are respected equally - individuals capable of both teaching and learning.

While there appear to be several groups with variations of this name, the O.S. can be found at orderoftheserpent.org
7. Which of these groups believes that Satan is an extraterrestrial being (literally alien), and is infamous for their direct connections to the neo-Nazi movement?

Answer: Joy of Satan

Joy of Satan is well known for its ties to neo-Nazi organizations, being run by Maxine Dietrich (aka Andrea Clifford Herrington), former wife to prominent American National Socialist Clifford Herrington. Of course, it is indeed true that the JoS website contains true occult rituals, but the majority of the occult community seems to view the JoS as "nothing more" than a neo-Nazi group.

The Order of Nine Angles is recognized as a Neo-Nazi or Fascist group as well, but the Acasaul entities of the ONA are not aliens in any literal sense, they are non-physical and "divine" beings.

The Order of the Trapezoid does focus on Germanic tradition, but specifically seeks the positive aspects which the Nazis let get out of control, such as life-worship and dynamic change.

The Black Sun is a symbol associated with Himmler and the S.S.
8. What is the main difference between the Eastern and Western Left Hand Paths?

Answer: The ELHP is based around taboo actions to break free from society and transcend illusion, whereas the WLHP is based around self-deification.

Those on the ELHP still seek a loss of Self and disillusion into the "All", whereas those on the WLHP seek to separate the individual Self from nature and grant it immortality. The ELHP also bases its practices on violating cultural taboos, whereas the WLHP accepts those values that work for it and rejects others.

In other words, the ELHP is based around the inverse of social values and the loss of self, whereas the WLHP is based around creating one's own values and reverence/deification of the self.
9. Which of these groups mixed the Thelema of Crowley with Germanic magic?

Answer: Brotherhood of Saturn

The Brotherhood of Saturn actually met with Crowley face to face, when he was trying to convince magical orders to join in his religion and goals of Thelema. The Brotherhood was taken by a lot of what Crowley said, but did not agree to become one of the groups unified underneath him.

Instead, they were greatly inspired by the Luciferian symbolism and astrology of Saturn, who they saw as the keeper of the gate to realms beyond this solar system. Dr. Stephen E. Flowers wrote possibly the only in-depth study on the Brotherhood in English: "Fire and Ice: The History, Structure, and Rituals of Germany's Most Influential Modern Magical Order: The Brotherhood of Saturn."
10. Which organization has a central goal of spreading free, up to date, and accurate esoteric information for the WLHP?

Answer: Order of the Serpent

The Order of the Serpent is a group with free membership, no initiatory grades, open source newsletters that are shared for free on the internet, and a free forum dedicated to intelligent discussion of the WLHP. The Order of Nine Angles also makes its works available for free online, though this is not something the order is explicitly dedicated to.
