Amazing Race 33 Trivia Questions

1. In the first Road Block of the race, team members rode the Rail Mail under what city?

From Quiz
Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: London

At the start of Leg 2, teams took a day trip through London, England, where they spent their first leg, and there, teams made their way to the London Postal Museum. One member of each team was required to hop onto the underground mail rail, head to a station down the line, and search through marked mail bins for their next clue. Ryan, Raquel, Anthony, Penn, Ray, Connie, Arun, Sheri, Taylor, and Lulu were selected to complete this task, sorting out what they needed (even though some thought the task was more difficult than it needed to be).

2. In Leg 10, teams flew to Portugal. They started the leg overlooking what city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [5]

Answer: Lisbon

To commence their penultimate leg of the race, the final four teams flew from Thessaloniki, Greece to the city of Lisbon, Portugal on the "Amazing Race" charter plane. They were subsequently brought to the Sanctuary of Christ the King in Almada to begin the leg in staggered departure times based on their arrivals at the previous Pit Stop. First and foremost they drove to the town of Setúbal to find Fortaleza de São Filipe, where they could head to the roof and search for the race flag on the Fisherman's Wharf and head to it to find their next clue.

3. Teams started their visit to Greece in Leg 8 near what Macedonian city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [4]

Answer: Thessaloniki

The final five teams hopped aboard the charter plane between Leg 7 and Leg 8 and flew from Corsica to the city of Thermaikos in Greece. It was there, at Peraia Beach, that teams commenced their eighth leg of the race with staggered start times and ripped open their clues to find that they would need to self-drive themselves through the countryside to the town of Nea Gonia. There, on the outskirts, they could visit the Konstantinos Olive Grove and search the olive trees there for their next clue.

4. At Belvédère de Corte on the island of Corsica, teams needed to collect the milk of which animal and use it for their Leg 6 Detour?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [3]

Answer: Goat

After two legs in Switzerland, the remaining six teams boarded the "Amazing Race" charter plane and took off for destinations unknown. They ended up leaving Lugano and headed due south to the island of Corsica where, upon landing, they would be taking to the island's capital of Corte to start the sixth leg of the race. Departing in three groups from Ponte Novu in Castello-di-Rostino, they would need to make their way by car to Belvédère de Corte to collect their next clue and a cannister of goat's milk.

5. After "The Amazing Race 33" halted production, teams restarted the race from what Swiss city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [2]

Answer: St. Gallen

With production shutting down in early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teams were brought back into the race nineteen months later. Leg 3 of the race ended in the cloisters of the University of Glasgow, but teams were brought to a 'Restarting Line' in front of St. Gallen Cathedral where Phil sent them all out on the race course at the same time. This marked the first time in race history where teams were able to regroup for an extended period after completing part of the race course. Phil also informed the teams of a couple adjustments to the race, firstly that the teams would face a lot more self-driving to avoid public transportation in light of social distancing expectations and secondly that all flights between countries would be chartered.

6. In Leg 3, team members visited Glasgow, Scotland. How many notes did racers need to perform on the bagpipes for their Road Block?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: One

Visiting Òran Mór in Glasgow, Scotland, teams needed to pick someone (Kim, Spencer, Dusty, Lala, Natalia, Raquel, Sam, Caro, Isaiah, and Akbar) to join the Johnstone Pipe Band. In the music hall, they first needed to assemble a set of bagpipes using the parts provided. Then, they needed to participate in an ongoing performance, learning how to operate their instrument to execute and hold a sustained note for the entirety of a traditional Scottish bagpiping anthem. If they could follow through, they would receive their next clue.

7. In Leg 2, teams completed either 'Bullseye, Mate' or 'Decorate'. In 'Bullseye, Mate', they played which pub game?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: Darts

Teams grabbed a Detour clue from Leicester Square and embarked on either 'Bullseye, Mate' or 'Decorate'. In 'Bullseye, Mate', teams visited a London pub to play darts; each team member had to toss three darts per round, and if both team members got a bullseye in the same round, they'd get a clue. In 'Decorate', teams instead decorated cakes at a London bakery, creating designs on their cakes to reflect European Union flags based on provided examples (mixed in with others that wouldn't count!). Three of the teams (Ryan and Dusty, Arun and Natalia, and Connie and Sam) completed the darts task while all the others completed the cakes.

8. "The Amazing Race 33" started with eleven teams. How many teams did it restart with in Leg 4?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [2]

Answer: Seven & 7

Although Leg 3 ended with nine teams still in contention, nineteen months of a world with COVID-19 changed a lot of peoples' lives. When teams reunited for a restart in St. Gallen, only five of the remaining nine teams answered the call with Anthony and Spencer, Connie and Sam, Caro and Ray, and Taylor and Isaiah being unable to return for varying reasons. As a result, Phil announced the return of both Michael and Moe and Arun and Natalia, teams who were eliminated at the end of Legs 1 and 3, marking the first time in the U.S. series that eliminated teams were able to return to the same race. As a result, seven teams departed on his go.

9. How many racers completed the mountain hike during the Swiss Road Block in Leg 4?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: Seven & 7

Although it would be a smart assumption to assume that, at this point in the race, there would be nine teams competing, the production hiatus between Legs 3 and 4 resulted in four teams not returning and two being re-added (after having been eliminated in Legs 1 and 3). This meant that when teams made it to the top of Säntis in Northeastern Switzerland, seven racers would be able to travers a via ferrata to collect their clue at the top during the Leg 4 Road Block. The task was done by Ryan, Lulu, Arun, Raquel, Penn, Moe, and Sheri.

10. Knowing that teams Detour choices in Leg 3 were 'Kilt' and 'Rebuilt', where did they complete their tasks?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: Scotland

The third leg of the race sent teams to the city of Glasgow, Scotland where they engaged with either traditional highland song and dance or the coopering industry. In 'Kilt', five of the teams ended up at the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall where they had to learn the lyrics and dance to the Scottish children's song "Donald Where's Your Troosers?". If they could perform both onstage in traditional highland garb, they could get their next clue. The other five teams went to the Fishermans Cooperage in 'Rebuilt' and assisted local tradesmen in repairing two whisky barrels.

11. Ultimately, how many teams finished the 'Mule, Please' Detour task in Leg 6?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [3]

Answer: Three

If teams didn't want to 'Say Cheese' for their Detour in Leg 6, they could instead opt to go with 'Mule, Please', which forced teams to take their canister of goat's milk and, after attaching a saddle and harness to a provided mule, they had to travel on foot with their pack animal to deliver their canister to the same location as the other task, the Fromagerie Fermière Chez Jean Paul & Claire. If they could make it without spilling their milk, they could get their next clue. Ryan and Dusty, Kim and Penn, and Raquel and Cayla completed this task.

12. In Leg 4, team members completing the Road Block traversed a via ferrata on what Swiss mountain?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [2]

Answer: Säntis

Heading out from St. Gallen Cathedral, teams had to head on foot to Museumstrasse to find one of three buses departing for Schwägalp Pass. There, they could take a cable car up to the top of Säntis to find their Road Block, a task requiring that one member of each pairing go climbing, navigating a via ferrata along the mountain ridge to collect their next clue at the far end. Ryan, Lulu, Arun, Raquel, Penn, Moe, and Sheri completed this task from a vantage point eight thousand feet above sea level. When the task was completed, they could return to the cable car station, ride to the bottom, and drive themselves to Gasthaus Sonne in Urnäsch.

13. In the 'Artist Den' Detour option in Leg 1, teams needed to recreate a work similar to which UK artist's style?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [1]

Answer: Banksy

Teams who opted to take their time with 'Artist Den' made their way to Immersive LDN on South Molton Street, Mayfair, where they had to engage with the contemporary art scene by properly unpuzzling thirty-six pieces of a poster and properly arranging and posting them to a wall. Once they had their Banksy-esque art approved by the gallery owner they could receive their next clue. Ray and Caro, Kim and Penn, Michael and Moe, Taylor and Isaiah, Arun and Natalia, and Lulu and Lala completed this task.

14. What was common between the teams that completed the 'Punch It' Detour task in Switzerland (in Leg 4)?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: They'd been eliminated in previous legs

In Leg 4, teams resumed the race after nineteen months on the show's production hiatus. Two of the returning teams, Michael and Moe and Arun and Natalia, were previously eliminated and rejoined five teams who had yet to be eliminated (replacing four who could not return). Interestingly, both eliminated teams were the ones to complete 'Punch It', sending them to a Swiss farm to construct a unique Swiss belt designed to tell a story. All other teams completed 'Toss It', sending them to complete a Swiss flag dance.

15. Which team member did not complete the canyoning Road Block in Corsica in Leg 6?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [3]

Answer: Kim

When teams got out of their Detour tasks they were told to head to Verghellu Canyon Altipani near the town of Venaco to get their next clue, their Road Block for this sixth leg of the race. For this task, one member of each pair was sent out into the mountains of Corsica wherein they needed to complete a 2.4 kilometre canyoning course with local guides, traversing mountain streams and gorges to locate their clue and return to the start. Penn, Lulu, Raquel, Akbar, Arun, and Ryan completed this challenge.

16. Which team was eliminated in the penultimate leg of the race, leaving in fourth?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [5]

Answer: Arun and Natalia

When they finished their second Road Block tasks, teams were told to make their way on foot to Farol de Cabo Espichel, a lighthouse on the Portuguese coast, where they could check into their tenth Pit Stop and secure a spot in the top three for the final leg. Raquel and Cayla won their second leg of the race (and second in a row), this time claiming a trip for two to Saint Lucia courtesy of Travelocity. Arun and Natalia's luck finally ran out after returning from elimination after the COVID-19 hiatus and facing two non-elimination Pit Stops. They went home in fourth place.

17. At the end of Leg 8, which team managed to be both the first and last to reach the Pit Stop?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [4]

Answer: Lulu and Lala

Finishing the second Road Block in Leg 8, teams were told to drive to the Pit Stop mat waiting for them at the end of Nea Kallikrateia Pier on the Aegean Sea. Kim and Penn, checked in in first place, having led for the whole leg in Greece, and it was their third win in a row (and fourth overall). The couple won themselves $7,500 USD each for their success. Lulu and Lala managed to land on the Pit Stop mat first, but inadvertently missed the souvlaki task and their second Road Block. In catching up, the sisters fell to the back of the pack and were eliminated from the race.

18. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 6, kayaking in to their elimination?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [3]

Answer: Akbar and Sheri

Completing the sixth leg of the race, teams departed from the Road Block and made their way to the river near Cardiccia Dam where they had to inflate a kayak fit for two and paddle upstream to the next Pit Stop on the edge of the Tavignano River. Kim and Penn, who hadn't won a leg of the race since Scotland (Leg 3) before the COVID break, arrived in first place and won $5,000 USD each. Though Akbar and Sheri arrived at the Road Block in fourth, Akbar fell behind far enough during the Road Block to sink the married couple to last place. They were subsequently eliminated in sixth.

19. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 4 (in Switzerland)?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [2]

Answer: Michael and Moe

Teams completed the Detour and were given a clue sending them to the town of Altstätten. There, teams could find their Pit Stop mat at Marktgasse and determine their placement. After nineteen months, it was Ryan and Dusty who overcame their being out-of-practice, and they checked into the Pit Stop in first, winning $2,500 USD each. They had also won Leg 2, though their check-in on the double-decker bus in London wasn't regarded as a complete Pit Stop (due to the keep-on-racing leg). Michael and Moe, who re-entered the race in this leg, found themselves unable to stay afloat and they were once again eliminated when they checked in.

20. Which team was eliminated in London at the end of Leg 1?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [1]

Answer: Michael and Moe

Teams completed their Detour tasks and were told to find the Queen and Boris Johnson having a nosh at The Chipping Forecast, what they would find to be a pub in Soho, to find one last clue in the hands of two impersonators. This final bit of route info would send them to the race's first Pit Stop waiting for them inside the Natural History Museum. Anthony and Spencer took the lead on this leg, managing to check in first to claim a trip for two to Turks and Caicos courtesy of Travelocity. After getting passed on the way to the Pit Stop by Lulu and Lala, Michael and Moe checked in last and became the first team eliminated from the race.

21. In Corsica in Leg 6, teams divided out over two tasks involving milk. One involved making cheese; the other involved which animal?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: Mule

Visiting the Fromagerie Fermière Chez Jean Paul & Claire in Corte on the island of Corsica, teams brought a canister of goat's milk and chose either 'Say Cheese' or 'Mule, Please', and both sent teams to the countryside. In the former task, Lulu and Lala, Akbar and Sheri, and Arun and Natalia made a local cheese with provided goat's milk while in the latter, Ryan and Dusty, Kim and Penn, and Raquel and Cayla had to properly saddle a mule, attach their canisters to its back, and walk it through the mountains to the fromagerie.

22. For the race's first Road Block (found in Leg 2), team members travelled by which means to sort through mail in London?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [1]

Answer: Train

Teams opened their clues on an early day in London on Leg 2 of the race and were told to make their way to Mail Rail at the London Postal Museum. There, teams located the first Road Block to be found on this race course. For this challenge, one member of each duo had to hop on board the Mail Rail train and head to a specific loading dock where they could search through thousands of letters in a mail bin to find their next clue. Ryan, Raquel, Anthony, Penn, Ray, Connie, Arun, Sheri, Taylor, and Lulu delivered on this one.

23. In Trigonion Tower in Leg 9, teams received words of wisdom from what Greek philosopher?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [4]

Answer: Socrates

When teams managed to remove themselves from the Road Block, they were instructed to head to Thessaloniki's Trigonion Tower. There, teams would be able to listen to the words of wisdom of Ancient Greek philosopher Socrates who, upon relinquishing his advice, would hand teams their next clue. It would be teams' Detour for this leg of the race, the last one in this season.

24. Which was the only team to complete the 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' Detour task in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [3]

Answer: Ryan and Dusty

When teams finished their cheesy task, teams got a Detour clue sending them to the rocky beaches of Pinarello to pick one of their next challenges. The first of these was 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' for which racers had to collect a two-man kayak with a transparent hull and paddle it out into the Mediterranean. The boat they chose would have a metal fish design on it, and with that they could search marked buoys, collecting ten identical metal fish to return to shore to trade for their next clue. Ryan and Dusty were the only team to take on this physical Detour option.

25. Once teams finished their Switchback, they proceeded to what southerly Swiss city for the remainder of Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [2]

Answer: Lugano

Once teams finished their harrowing bungee jump Road Block, they could open a tiny clue on their Roaming Gnome and drive themselves to the lakeside town of Lugano. Upon arriving, they could drive to Piazza Carlo Battaglini, park their car, and search the lakeside boardwalk for a cluebox waiting on a short pier. It was there that teams opened their Detour clue.

26. For their Road Block task in Theatro Dassous (in Thessaloniki, Leg 9), team members traded a gold coin to whom for their next clue?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: The Oracle of Delphi

Leg 9 of the race took teams to Thessaloniki, Greece where, to kick off this series of tasks, teams drove to Theatro Dassous for a Road Block. In this one, teams arrived to find the amphitheatre's main bowl occupied by hundreds upon hundreds of flat stones. For this challenge, the selected team members had to turn over as many stones as it took to find one of four gold coins waiting underneath. Then, they could trade the coin to an Oracle of Delphi impersonator to collect their next clue. Kim, Raquel, Dusty, and Arun were selected for this task.

27. Which team did not complete the 'Sausage Encase' Detour task in Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [2]

Answer: Ryan and Dusty

In 'Sausage Encase', teams could visit the butchers at Gabbani Salumeria for the less-physical Detour challenge option. In this task, teams needed to work to create a local meat dish, luganighetta, encasing nine continuous feet of sausage before dividing it into four even coils of meat. If the butcher approved of their work, they would receive their next clue. Lulu and Lala, Raquel and Cayla, and Arun and Natalia completed this challenge.

28. Which team did not complete the 'Bullseye, Mate' Detour option, throwing darts in Leg 2?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [1]

Answer: Anthony and Spencer

Teams who left Leicester Square for the 'Bullseye, Mate' Detour option took a cab to Flight Club Shoreditch for a pint and a game of darts. Each team member would need to throw three darts and if both team members hit the bullseye in the same round, they would be given their next clue. Ryan and Dusty, Arun and Natalia, and Connie and Sam were the only teams to head to this task-- and they did so quicker than those in the other Detour-- with others fearing that the accuracy would be their undoing.

29. How many legs of this race contained Detour tasks?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 33"

Answer: Eight & 8

In eleven legs of the race (already shorter than a traditional season due to COVID-19's impact on the course), teams only encountered eight Detours, avoiding finding any during Legs 8, 10, and 11. Legs 8 and 10 contained double Road Blocks, forcing teams to divide to conquer, while Leg 11 was structured more as a City Sprint, containing neither Detours nor Road Blocks as teams rushed to the Finish Line.

30. In the 'Break 'Em' Detour task in Leg 9, teams received a tiny clue bearing what words?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 33" [4]

Answer: White Tower

If teams chose the alternative Detour option, which they did, they headed directly to the Cafe Jasmine without delivering anything besides their ire. Teams could head into the cafe to listen to the band play and, in the midst of this, alternate tossing plates on the ground in a gesture of good luck and good fortune. If they smashed enough, they would eventually find a tiny clue baked inside which, when opened, would direct them to the race's ninth Pit Stop-- White Tower.
