Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While one task in the race's first leg (in London) asked teams to visit an 'Artist's Den', the other asked them to locate which of these?

Answer: 'Digiben'

Teams were pretty well situated in front of Buckingham Palace when they commenced their first Detour task of the race, a choice between 'Artist's Den', which sent them to put up a thirty-six piece poster puzzle at a local art gallery, and 'Digiben', which sent them on a scavenger hunt around Westminster, London looking for a DJ by the name of Digiben.

The latter task would ultimately send them to Big Ben, the replica Little Ben, and eventually to the Piccadilly Circus tube station. The teams divided up fairly evenly for these challenges with six completing the former option.
2. In Leg 2, teams completed either 'Bullseye, Mate' or 'Decorate'. In 'Bullseye, Mate', they played which pub game?

Answer: Darts

Teams grabbed a Detour clue from Leicester Square and embarked on either 'Bullseye, Mate' or 'Decorate'. In 'Bullseye, Mate', teams visited a London pub to play darts; each team member had to toss three darts per round, and if both team members got a bullseye in the same round, they'd get a clue.

In 'Decorate', teams instead decorated cakes at a London bakery, creating designs on their cakes to reflect European Union flags based on provided examples (mixed in with others that wouldn't count!). Three of the teams (Ryan and Dusty, Arun and Natalia, and Connie and Sam) completed the darts task while all the others completed the cakes.
3. Knowing that teams Detour choices in Leg 3 were 'Kilt' and 'Rebuilt', where did they complete their tasks?

Answer: Scotland

The third leg of the race sent teams to the city of Glasgow, Scotland where they engaged with either traditional highland song and dance or the coopering industry. In 'Kilt', five of the teams ended up at the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall where they had to learn the lyrics and dance to the Scottish children's song "Donald Where's Your Troosers?". If they could perform both onstage in traditional highland garb, they could get their next clue.

The other five teams went to the Fishermans Cooperage in 'Rebuilt' and assisted local tradesmen in repairing two whisky barrels.
4. What was common between the teams that completed the 'Punch It' Detour task in Switzerland (in Leg 4)?

Answer: They'd been eliminated in previous legs

In Leg 4, teams resumed the race after nineteen months on the show's production hiatus. Two of the returning teams, Michael and Moe and Arun and Natalia, were previously eliminated and rejoined five teams who had yet to be eliminated (replacing four who could not return).

Interestingly, both eliminated teams were the ones to complete 'Punch It', sending them to a Swiss farm to construct a unique Swiss belt designed to tell a story. All other teams completed 'Toss It', sending them to complete a Swiss flag dance.
5. Teams split out evenly between Detour options in Lugano, Switzerland (in Leg 5). One of those options had teams making which of the following?

Answer: Sausages

Reaching the city of Lugano, Switzerland in Leg 5, teams could either deliver food or make food in 'Bartender Race' or 'Sausage Encase'. In 'Bartender Race', teams transported bottles of wine and packages of chestnuts up four hundred feet of staircases at Salita degli Angioli while in 'Sausage Encase' they worked with local butchers to make four coils of a traditional sausage, luganighetta. Three teams completed each task before heading to the Pit Stop.
6. In Corsica in Leg 6, teams divided out over two tasks involving milk. One involved making cheese; the other involved which animal?

Answer: Mule

Visiting the Fromagerie Fermière Chez Jean Paul & Claire in Corte on the island of Corsica, teams brought a canister of goat's milk and chose either 'Say Cheese' or 'Mule, Please', and both sent teams to the countryside. In the former task, Lulu and Lala, Akbar and Sheri, and Arun and Natalia made a local cheese with provided goat's milk while in the latter, Ryan and Dusty, Kim and Penn, and Raquel and Cayla had to properly saddle a mule, attach their canisters to its back, and walk it through the mountains to the fromagerie.
7. Both Detour options in Leg 7 (on the Corsican coast) involved searching for which of these?

Answer: Fish

Teams headed along the Corsican coastline in Leg 7, driving themselves to Pinarello Beach to complete either 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' or 'Gently Down the Stream' for their Detour task. In both, teams kept their eyes to the waters searching for fish.

The former had Ryan and Dusty taking to a kayak to collect ten metal fish from the crystal clear Mediterranean while the latter had the remaining teams riding a glass-bottom boat searching for and memorizing ten of the same fish on a fifteen-minute cruise.
8. Leg 9's Detour allowed teams to transport or break which of these in Thessaloniki, Greece?

Answer: Plates

Ending off Leg 9, teams needed to choose either 'Bring 'Em' or 'Break 'Em', both of which allowed teams to handle plates in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. None of the teams let themselves haul three hundred plates up the hillside to the Cafe Jasmine for the former task. All four instead went with 'Break 'Em', which allowed them to head directly to the cafe to smash plates searching for a tiny clue within the piles to destroy.

When this was done they could race to the Pit Stop.
9. How many legs of this race contained Detour tasks?

Answer: Eight

In eleven legs of the race (already shorter than a traditional season due to COVID-19's impact on the course), teams only encountered eight Detours, avoiding finding any during Legs 8, 10, and 11. Legs 8 and 10 contained double Road Blocks, forcing teams to divide to conquer, while Leg 11 was structured more as a City Sprint, containing neither Detours nor Road Blocks as teams rushed to the Finish Line.
10. Did "The Amazing Race 33" feature any Double U-Turns?

Answer: No

The season didn't feature any U-Turns (Double, Blind, or otherwise) of any sort, allowing for a fairly straightforward route with minimal opportunities to strategize tactical stumbling blocks for the teams to navigate. Part of the reason for this is likely due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which, at the time of filming, would have caused additional logistical hurdles; minimizing teams' interactions at key tasks would ensure that potential opportunities for viral transmission could be kept low.
