Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Teams started their visit to Greece in Leg 8 near what Macedonian city?

Answer: Thessaloniki

The final five teams hopped aboard the charter plane between Leg 7 and Leg 8 and flew from Corsica to the city of Thermaikos in Greece. It was there, at Peraia Beach, that teams commenced their eighth leg of the race with staggered start times and ripped open their clues to find that they would need to self-drive themselves through the countryside to the town of Nea Gonia.

There, on the outskirts, they could visit the Konstantinos Olive Grove and search the olive trees there for their next clue.
2. For their first Road Block in Leg 8, team members made dolmades, wrapping them in which of the following?

Answer: Grape leaves

Finding clues amongst the olive trees in Nea Gonia, teams were told to drive onward to the nearby Marianna's Vineyard and there they found a Road Block task. Teams were required, there, to watch a demonstration and learn how to wrap dolmades, mixing rice, vegetables, spices, and grape leaves to the approval of Marianna herself. If Kim, Raquel, Dusty, Lala, and Arun could wrap a total of sixty dolmades and present them properly, they would be handed a new clue.
3. Visiting Heraklia for a meal in Leg 8, teams enjoyed which of the following?

Answer: Souvlaki

Finishing the dolmade platters, teams could drive to Heraklea to find Mamo's Kantina Stand on the city's beachfront. There, they would be able to order the dish of the day, souvlaki. After spelling the word souvlaki, they would be able to enjoy their meal and find their next clue.

This being said, teams didn't necessarily know that their next clue would be a destination-- Saint George Church, Heraklea-- written on the souvlaki wrapper they'd been given.
4. Near the end of Leg 8, team members found a Road Block in which they needed to learn facts about which of these cultural items?

Answer: Saints

Once teams made their way to Saint George Church they were met with the second Road Block of two in the leg. For this, Penn, Ryan, Lulu, Natalia, and Cayla were required to participate as their teammates completed the dolmade Road Block earlier in the leg.

In this challenge, racers had to sit through a fifteen minute sermon provided by a local Greek Orthodox priest. Though the sermon would give facts about ten different Greek saints, participants had to memorize the right facts and travel on foot to a local vendor and identify the correct five saints asked of them. All five correct would lead them to their next clue.
5. At the end of Leg 8, which team managed to be both the first and last to reach the Pit Stop?

Answer: Lulu and Lala

Finishing the second Road Block in Leg 8, teams were told to drive to the Pit Stop mat waiting for them at the end of Nea Kallikrateia Pier on the Aegean Sea. Kim and Penn, checked in in first place, having led for the whole leg in Greece, and it was their third win in a row (and fourth overall).

The couple won themselves $7,500 USD each for their success. Lulu and Lala managed to land on the Pit Stop mat first, but inadvertently missed the souvlaki task and their second Road Block. In catching up, the sisters fell to the back of the pack and were eliminated from the race.
6. At the start of Leg 9, team members completing the Road Block in a Greek amphitheatre could trade which of these for a clue?

Answer: Gold coin

Leg 9 commenced with the final four teams departing at one of two early morning times, fifteen minutes apart. All they needed to do to kick off the leg was to drive themselves north into the city of Thessaloniki and find Theatro Dassous. There, they would find their Road Block for this leg of the race, and one member of each team (Kim, Raquel, Dusty, and Arun) would be required to leave no stone unturned. Flipping over stones, one at a time, in the old amphitheatre, they had to locate one of only four gold coins to trade to a woman impersonating the Oracle of Delphi.

She would trade the coin for a clue.
7. In Trigonion Tower in Leg 9, teams received words of wisdom from what Greek philosopher?

Answer: Socrates

When teams managed to remove themselves from the Road Block, they were instructed to head to Thessaloniki's Trigonion Tower. There, teams would be able to listen to the words of wisdom of Ancient Greek philosopher Socrates who, upon relinquishing his advice, would hand teams their next clue. It would be teams' Detour for this leg of the race, the last one in this season.
8. The 'Bring 'Em' Detour task in Greece in Leg 9 was completed by how many teams?

Answer: None of them

Interestingly, none of the four teams opted to head over to the 'Bring 'Em' Detour challenge. For this, teams would have needed to find a marked food cart. Using the provided cart as their starting point they would need to haul three hundred plates, on foot, uphill to the Cafe Jasmine in Thessaloniki. If they could deliver them all intact, they could proceed to their Pit Stop, written on a tiny clue provided at the end of the road.
9. In the 'Break 'Em' Detour task in Leg 9, teams received a tiny clue bearing what words?

Answer: White Tower

If teams chose the alternative Detour option, which they did, they headed directly to the Cafe Jasmine without delivering anything besides their ire. Teams could head into the cafe to listen to the band play and, in the midst of this, alternate tossing plates on the ground in a gesture of good luck and good fortune. If they smashed enough, they would eventually find a tiny clue baked inside which, when opened, would direct them to the race's ninth Pit Stop-- White Tower.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the race's ninth Pit Stop, finding themselves spared in the final non-elimination checkpoint of the season?

Answer: Ryan and Dusty

When teams nabbed their tiny clues they could follow them to the White Tower of Thessaloniki, the ninth Pit Stop of the race. Here, Raquel and Cayla, who managed to find their coin at the Road Block faster than the other teams, kept their lead through the remainder of the leg to claim their first win of the race (at long last).

The friends thus, won a trip for two to Kauai, Hawaii courtesy of Travelocity which they could enjoy after the race. The last team to arrive this time ended up being general front-runners Ryan and Dusty, who fell victim to the needle-in-a-haystack challenge. Fortunately, this was the last opportunity anyone would have to dodge elimination.
