Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After "The Amazing Race 33" halted production, teams restarted the race from what Swiss city?

Answer: St. Gallen

With production shutting down in early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teams were brought back into the race nineteen months later. Leg 3 of the race ended in the cloisters of the University of Glasgow, but teams were brought to a 'Restarting Line' in front of St. Gallen Cathedral where Phil sent them all out on the race course at the same time.

This marked the first time in race history where teams were able to regroup for an extended period after completing part of the race course. Phil also informed the teams of a couple adjustments to the race, firstly that the teams would face a lot more self-driving to avoid public transportation in light of social distancing expectations and secondly that all flights between countries would be chartered.
2. "The Amazing Race 33" started with eleven teams. How many teams did it restart with in Leg 4?

Answer: Seven

Although Leg 3 ended with nine teams still in contention, nineteen months of a world with COVID-19 changed a lot of peoples' lives. When teams reunited for a restart in St. Gallen, only five of the remaining nine teams answered the call with Anthony and Spencer, Connie and Sam, Caro and Ray, and Taylor and Isaiah being unable to return for varying reasons.

As a result, Phil announced the return of both Michael and Moe and Arun and Natalia, teams who were eliminated at the end of Legs 1 and 3, marking the first time in the U.S. series that eliminated teams were able to return to the same race.

As a result, seven teams departed on his go.
3. In Leg 4, team members completing the Road Block traversed a via ferrata on what Swiss mountain?

Answer: Säntis

Heading out from St. Gallen Cathedral, teams had to head on foot to Museumstrasse to find one of three buses departing for Schwägalp Pass. There, they could take a cable car up to the top of Säntis to find their Road Block, a task requiring that one member of each pairing go climbing, navigating a via ferrata along the mountain ridge to collect their next clue at the far end. Ryan, Lulu, Arun, Raquel, Penn, Moe, and Sheri completed this task from a vantage point eight thousand feet above sea level.

When the task was completed, they could return to the cable car station, ride to the bottom, and drive themselves to Gasthaus Sonne in Urnäsch.
4. In Leg 4, which Detour task was completed by more teams?

Answer: 'Toss It'

Arriving in Urnäsch, teams could work at one of two Detour options in the town there: 'Punch It' or 'Toss It'. In 'Punch It', completed by Michael and Moe and Arun and Natalia, teams had to use specialized tools to tell a story by crafting a traditional Swiss belt using a provided leather belt and handcrafted ornaments. If they told the story with the correct order of items, they would get their next clue.

In 'Toss It', all remaining teams headed to Schulanlage AU to learn fahnenschwingen, a a flag-tossing sequence. If both team members could perform the routine they would receive their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 4 (in Switzerland)?

Answer: Michael and Moe

Teams completed the Detour and were given a clue sending them to the town of Altstätten. There, teams could find their Pit Stop mat at Marktgasse and determine their placement. After nineteen months, it was Ryan and Dusty who overcame their being out-of-practice, and they checked into the Pit Stop in first, winning $2,500 USD each.

They had also won Leg 2, though their check-in on the double-decker bus in London wasn't regarded as a complete Pit Stop (due to the keep-on-racing leg). Michael and Moe, who re-entered the race in this leg, found themselves unable to stay afloat and they were once again eliminated when they checked in.
6. Teams started Leg 5 with a Road Block in Switzerland. The task involved a bungee jump off which of these?

Answer: Dam

Teams departed from Altstätten early in Leg 5 with a Road Block in their first clue envelope, and for this task, teams needed to think fast about who would complete a Switchback for a task first featured in "The Amazing Race 14". For this, teams needed to travel to Verzasca Dam where the selected teammate would perform a 722-foot bungee jump (the highest in Europe) alongside the Travelocity Roaming Gnome, their traveling companion for this leg of the race.

Their hint for the task was a vague one, and as such, Dusty, Kim, Cayla, Lala, Sheri, and Natalia elected to complete the challenge.
7. Once teams finished their Switchback, they proceeded to what southerly Swiss city for the remainder of Leg 5?

Answer: Lugano

Once teams finished their harrowing bungee jump Road Block, they could open a tiny clue on their Roaming Gnome and drive themselves to the lakeside town of Lugano. Upon arriving, they could drive to Piazza Carlo Battaglini, park their car, and search the lakeside boardwalk for a cluebox waiting on a short pier. It was there that teams opened their Detour clue.
8. Which team did not complete the 'Sausage Encase' Detour task in Leg 5?

Answer: Ryan and Dusty

In 'Sausage Encase', teams could visit the butchers at Gabbani Salumeria for the less-physical Detour challenge option. In this task, teams needed to work to create a local meat dish, luganighetta, encasing nine continuous feet of sausage before dividing it into four even coils of meat. If the butcher approved of their work, they would receive their next clue. Lulu and Lala, Raquel and Cayla, and Arun and Natalia completed this challenge.
9. In the 'Bartender Race' Detour task (in Switzerland in Leg 5), teams delivered bottles of wine and what other treat?

Answer: Chestnuts

Teams' other Detour option in Lugano was 'Bartender Race' for which they needed to aid local businesses by delivering twelve bottles of wine and twelve chestnuts to a local party. The catch was that to do so they would need to traverse the stairs at Salita degli Angioli, a series of steps taking them a distance of four hundred feed up the hillside. If they could get everything to the top, no matter how many trips, they could receive their next clue.

This task was selected by Ryan and Dusty, Kim and Penn, and Akbar and Sheri.
10. Which team was last to check into the Pit Stop at the end of Leg 5 (to be spared from elimination)?

Answer: Arun and Natalia

When teams completed their Detour tasks, they were instructed to find the location of their next Pit Stop hidden in the pocket of their Travelocity Roaming Gnome's outfit. The photo would depict Parco Ciani, where they could check in with Phil and the Pit Stop mat. Ryan and Dusty pushed through this leg with a lead coming out of the Road Block and took their second consecutive win of the race, this time taking a five-night trip to Dominica courtesy of Travelocity as their prize. Arun and Natalia, lost on their drive through Switzerland, ended up last to arrive at the Pit Stop though they were spared from elimination this time around.
